This book is a good starting place for anyone with a basic knowledge of hold'em and intermediate players who what to brush up on their skills.

Because Purdy urges beginning players to play conservatively, any newcomer taking his advice should do well at the table. It's an easy read, perhaps three hours, and good time investment.
