After a couple volumes that were weaker, it was good to be reminded why I've generally been buying all the Essential Amazing Spider-Man. Denny O'Neil's run has its weird quirks, and his villains aren't notably stronger than Marv Wolfman (he has the dubious honor of creating Hydro-Man), but he gets Peter Parker and Spidey, he does some fun stuff with the Frightful Four, Namor and takes the Deb Whitman character into territory where she's at least mildly interesting instead of actively annoying.

This book really got going, and it had some very strong moments.

The only knocK I had on it, which was very personal, was that I had just read volume 9, so it was a little repetitive for Peter Parker to do his Clark Kent impression, sense danger and rush to it, every issue over and over. But they handled it pretty well.

A fun read. John Romita, Jr. drew most of the issues in this book, and his work is always solid. This volume concludes Denny O'Neil's tenure on the book, and begins Roger Stern's run on Amazing Spider-Man. Some highlights from this volume include an annual featuring Doctor Octopus and the Punisher, a fun Vulture story, and one of the most famous Spider-Man stories: Spider-Man's fight against the X-Men villain the Juggernaut! That story is worth the price of the book alone.

Some good stories in this edition. I enjoyed the Juggernaut arc and the Black Cat arc. One of the more disappointing things is as I get farther into the Spider-Man story I miss more events that are happening in other comments. Besides that, an enjoyable read.

Meh. That's honestly the best descriptor I have. Just, meh. So many one-shot villains, such dull characters and dialogue, even sub-standard art for the most part.
