I was taken in with Elaine Littau's story from the first chapter of The Eyes of a Stranger. Elaine's descriptions made me feel as if I was right there in the 1800's watching the story unfold.
Gertie Brenan is rejected by her family only to be sent to meet her soon-to-be husband for the first time. He too rejects her. Gertie comes to terms with her situation and realizes she now has choices and a sense of freedom she never experienced before. Gertie's journey is one of love, sacrifice, honor, and...more

The story told here by Elaine Littau captioned my attention from the first page. She develops each character so vividly that before long you feel you are right there watching the story unfold and feel like you know each person involved. The time line was very interesting, 1800s westernfront, and the love story was engaging! Even though it is one of a series, it certainly can stan alone. It certainly was a good read and I highly recommend it.
