เราคิดว่าเรื่องเขียนได้ดีในแง่ของการสื่อว่า พวกมนุษย์ (โดยเฉพาะตัวผู้นำ) ก็ใช้วิธีที่รุนแรงเกินไป เพราะแทนที่จะจัดการเฉพาะพวกเหนือธรรมชาติ ไปไปมามาก็ฆ่ามนุษย์กันเอง ทำให้ผิดวัตถุประสงค์ที่พวกเขาตั้งกันมาตั้งแต่แรก ก็เลยสร้างความชอบธรรมให้กับกลุ่มพระเอก (ที่เป็นพวกเหนือธรรมชาติ) ในการปราบปรามพวกเขา อย่างไรก็ตามเราไม่ได้ชอบพวกเหนือธรรมชาติมากขึ้นนะคะ สิ่งเดียวที่ทำให้พล็อตเรื่องนี้พอไปได้สำหรับเราก็คือ เห็นได้ชัดว่า ดอยล์ไม่ใช่คนวงในของคนกลุ่มนี้ (พวกพระเอกในห้าเล่มแรก) มาตั้งแต่ต้น

I was kinda leary about this book, because Doyle has never been a character I liked. I always thought of him as a total asshole.. And the fact he never gave a rats ass about Luke always rubbed me the wrong way.. But WOW!! Andrea "Andy" Tarrent is a reporter. When her cousin comes to her with a story that is totaly unbeliveable. Ryan Doyle is a paradaemon-half human/half daemon with the power to extract information from the minds of the recently deceased. Called in whenever a murder victim is a preternatural being, Ryan is able to extricate the information from the victim, but sometimes they arrive at the scene when it is too late. But when a terrified werewolf is found dying from multiple wounds and colloidal silver poisoning, the PEC knows this is not a random attack. As an undercover operative, Doyle is torn-revealing his true identity to Andy could mean compromising the investigation. But when they find themselves under fire, Doyle’s daemon will surface and it is Andy who is more than willing to help the man who saved her life.

Paul is the leader of the LA movement hoping to expose and take down the PEC. But Paul has a darker side that will eventually put everyone that Andy loves in danger. Hoping to recruit an army of warriors, Paul is willing to use any available method, including a serial killer with the information on the whereabouts of the PEC and Division 6. But when Doyle is taken hostage, it will be Andy and her father that will pay the price for their betrayal to the movement.

WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS is a great addition to JK Beck’s Shadow Keepers series. A well-written, fast paced storyline, Ryan Doyle has finally found the mate that has alluded him for so many years or 6 novels-whichever you chose.

I read the first two books in The Shadow Keepers series, then I just sort of forgot about it, and now I remember why. The book wasn’t bad. I was entertained, but it was almost to formulaic. Brooding guy, whip smart sexually repressed girl who reminds him of his dead love… I’ve read this story before, a few times. Though I appreciated how Beck explores the cycle of violence with a paranormal twist, WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS didn't have particular deep characters to go along with the complex and nuanced plot. While I appreciated Andy's pluck and rational thinking, she and Doyle both were just a little too perfect and predictable to hook me. Ryan is an agent for the PEC, or Preternatural Enforcement Coalition. It's his job to investigate crimes in the shadow world and hunt down anyone who breaks their laws. Ryan is dedicated to this work and not a lot else has been given about his back ground. In this book we learn of his heartbreaking past and painful experiences with women. Though he's rigid and too serious a lot of the time, I've liked Ryan and I'm glad he finally opens up and shows there's more to him than his job.

Andy is a reporter and that's pretty much the only thing that's interesting about her until things become serious with Ryan. Ryan once loved a human but things ended tragically when she learned what he is. Andy was recently told her mother was murdered by a preternatural. After this is revealed, I thought I knew how their relationship would unfold. Some of it is predictable and their relationship progressed a little too quickly but the emotional connection is there and Andy surprised me with how she dealt with everything. She's opened minded, brave and accepts Ryan for what he is. I gotta love a heroine who is actually rational.

With their own reasons, Ryan and Andy try to infiltrate the human group whose goal is to destroy the shadow world. You'd think since the PEC is up against humans it would be a quick take down but they have extensive knowledge and weapons that make them a formidable foe. I was happy it wasn't another case of preternatural versus preternatural because the enemy had to be resourceful and creative to match up again beings who are faster, stronger and more powerful. The ending is suspenseful, though it felt a little rushed, but I was satisfied and I hope this isn't the last we'll see of this group because there are questions that were left unanswered.

The book starts with a second story running parallel to the main arc that in the beginning felt pointless and had nothing to do with the story that's promised in the book's blurb. A few chapters in, things come together but I felt more time was spent on the side story than needed. The physical relationship between Ryan and Andy did nothing for me but their emotional bond was solid and what I loved most about this book. The last couple books in this series have been disappointing and although I wasn't blow away by everything in this book, When Temptation Burns had enough to offer that it made me I'm glad I didn't stop reading this series.

WHEN TEMPTATION BURNS feels more like my first Paranormal Thriller rather than a Paranormal Romances. Though Andy and Doyle do provide strong romantic elements, they share the narrative perspective with many of the major players in the plot. Both heroes and villains get to tell their side of the story, and Beck doesn’t flinch from weaving emotionally and morally complex themes into the plot.

Because I (again) made the mistake of reading a book out of order, I was really surprised how easy it was to slide right in to this story and understand the world built by J.K Beck. Really great edge-of-your-seat paranormal romance where our hero, Doyle, is trying to fight his very nature while our heroine, Andy, tries to understand a world new to her. I don't know what happened, but this one just did not work at all. I am so glad that I got it from library instead of buying it. The story and characters were weak. I wonder what happened. The first three stories in the series were strong. I love the first story with Lucian. If this keeps up,I will not be reading anymore from this series.

This is such a kick ass series. I can't get enough of it. I'd been curious of Doyle's background since the beginning and this book told his story in such a way that was totally him. By going undercover to help stop a home-grown terrorist group against the shadowers was an awesome way to introduce him to Andy, his soon to be woman.

Finally, everything was revealed about Luke and Doyle and was hapenned so many years ago that turned Doyle so angry towards his friend.

I enjoyed this book. Andy and Doyle's romance was pretty. Some scenes touched deeply in my heart, as when she knew that Doyle wasn't human.

this is a good series. I liked the first 3, the 4th not so much but the 5th and this one rocked!
