The third installment in the Fargo Adventures was a little bit of a disappointment and not because of the writing issues, which I wrote about in my reviews for Spartan Gold and Lost Empire. No - in fact the writing style had gotten increasingly better from the first book. The useless details are almost gone and we are starting to see even some mild character development. It's true, we still don't know what Remi and Sam think, but occasionally Remi cries and Sam gets angry, which, if you read the...more

The Fargos, Sam and Remi, are treasure hunters. They are incredibly good at it, too. Currently overseeing an excavation at the site of one their finds, they are surprised when a Texas oil baron contacts them with a personal plea. The oil baron had hired a friend of the Fargos' to find his missing father, and now the investigator is missing, too. He wants to hire Sam and Remi to look for them both. They agree, but as they begin their hunt, they realize that something about the situation doesn't s...more

With the Fargos Cussler seems to have rediscovered the gold that makes him one of the leaders of the action adventure genre. The witty reparte between charaters is both fun and engaging, the character are very real not 2 dimensional and sterotypical as some had recently become.
This latest adventure has the usual thrills spills and crazy dare devil action, and it would not be a cussler book without them. You dont read a cussler for brain fodder you read it to escape and have fun...well this book...more

In Spartan Gold and Lost Empire, Clive Cussler brought readers into the world of husband-and-wife team Sam and Remi Fargo, whose passion and instinct for treasure-hunting has led to extraordinary discoveries-and perilous journeys.

Their next adventure, however, might be their most astonishing yet.

The Fargos are used to hunting for treasure, not people. But then a Texas oil baron contacts them with a personal plea: an investigator friend of the Fargos' was on a mission to find the oil baron's miss...more

Third in the Fargo Adventure archeology series starring Sam and Remi Fargo, millionaires with a fascination for historical treasures and a gold code about their preservation.

The Story
Sam and Remi get caught up trying to find a missing Frank only to discover that King Charlie is using them to find an ancient artifact. An artifact for which his father, Lewis "Bully" King, spent his life looking. Now if the Fargos can only evade the Kings and the Chinese army as they explore caves, hike forests, an...more

Clive Cussler covers are epic. Simple, clean and evocative, these covers for me are the kind that inspire you to buy the print version of a book even though it's more expensive than the Kindle version.

And Cussler's new novel, The Kingdom, is no different. With backgrounded Himalaya, snow and dark skies, the book puts you in comfortable-read mode even before you've cracked the spine.

I haven't read any Cussler before. Mostly, aside from the cover, I was drawn to this book by its interest and link...more

I know that this book is mainly the work of Grant Blackwood and that is fine with me. Unlike some other reviewers I think it is good that well known author's are taking on the job of mentoring younger authors. I am growing to enjoy Blackwood's work.

I did have a feeling that this book was similar to a recent book done by Cussler and another protege. But that didn't end up being the case.

Blackwood is back with the Fargo's, Sam and Remi. They are hired (actually they are willing to do the work for...more

It has been a while since I've delved into one of Clive Cussler's epic adventures, and I have never read any of the husband-and-wife Fargo series. So a plane ride home from Vegas was the perfect excuse to escape on a fun thrill ride of the book.

I love Cussler's books because although they are thrilling and full of complicated gadgets, they are breezy easy reads. The diolouge is never full of any kind of large vocabulary and it's simple fun. This adventure has Sam and Remi hungting down a ril man...more

I doubt that we will ever travel to Nepal but if we do I will know from this novel not to overnight in one of their "chokes" because of the danger of flash flooding! This novel further expands on the notion of Shangri La (which FDR claimed was the source of the Doolittle Raid to Tokyo); however, it involves the "theurang" or "or "Golden Man" in the Mustang region of Nepal which turns out to be feminine and purported to be a missing link in human evolution.
I doubt that we will ever travel to Nep...more

What a terrible read. A review in Amazon.com says it best,

"It was obvious almost from the first page that this book was not written by Clive Cussler. It appears that the only thing Cussler had to do with it was to have his name put on it as co-author. With Cussler now having his books ghost written, that makes three, along with W.E.B. Griffin and Tom Clancy who no longer write their own books. It wouldn't be so bad if Blackwood could write, but he can't. Its for sure he ain't no Cussler or Clan...more

#3 in the Sam & Remi Fargo series. One of the more over-the-top adventure series, this entry has a high rating because I was fascinated by the geographical and cultural look at the Tibet-Nepal-China area and well as by the speculative look at balloon flight in the Nepal of centuries ago.

Sam & Remi Fargo series - An investigator friend of the Fargos' was on a mission to find an oil baron's missing father-and now the investigator is missing, too. Would Sam and Remi be willing to look for t...more

Another typical Clive Cussler adventure - lots of action and fun to read. I love the short historical chapters that set-up the adventure to follow. Sam and Remi Fargo, treasure hunters, are hired by an evil billionaire to search for a fellow adventurer of theirs, who has disappeared in Nepal. The real reason is that the billionaire wants them to find a missing treasure first discovered by his father, who also disappeared. The action takes place in Nepal, Tibet, and China. You get a little lesson...more

Another great Fargo adventure with the husband and wife team this time spending much of their time in Nepal. Fascinating setting, a great historical mystery, a great take on a mythos not explored to death, and just plain fun. With plenty of money at their disposal, there is no sitting back for the Fargos,. Jetting around to various locales, trekking through incredible scenery, outwitting the criminal element. Very Indiana Jonesish, with a touch of Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy as well. Sma...more

In this Cussler adventure we Join the Fargos (treasure hunters and lookers for things lost) who have been hired by a very wealthy oil man to find an investigator who seems to have gone missing while employed by the oil man to search for his father. The investigator is also a friend of the Fargos and they willingly take on the job, however they soon discover that the oil man has much more in mind then the search for the missing investigator or his long last father. The Fargo's search has them fol...more

The latest Sam and Remi Fargo adventure is just fun. Charles King enlists them to find their friend Frank, who is a private investigator gone missing. Turns out King had him kidnapped only the Fargos can't prove it.
A mysterious artifact that Charles King is trying to find is the reason that Frank was involved in the first place. Mr. King didn't think the Fargos would be able to resist the hunt and they don't.
Set in Nepal, Tibet, China and India, the Fargos hunt for the Golden Man, a lost treasur...more

Of all the "cussler books" I have read, this is by far the worst. Of course, it was not written by Clive Cussler. His name is just the largest on the cover. The actual author was Grant Blackwood and it is a spinoff of a character Cussler introduced in one of his novels.

I found it very difficult to 'suspend disbelief' while reading this novel. Some of the actions seemed contrary to laws of physics and there were large 'black holes' in the story where the protagonists were in the middle of a rathe...more

Out of all Clive Cusslers books (And I've read almost all of them) I like the Fargo series the least, that was until I read The Kingdom. This is an adventure story with a fast pace, a suitably demented villian, quirky secondary characters and a lot of well written action scenes. I couldn't put it down. I loved the banter between the Fargos themselves, amusing quips and entertaining situations. The concept was novel and interesting. A floating island? Nano-robots that invade the sea and reflect s...more

Its sad when a favorite author stops writing his own books. I have read reviews from many caliming Cussler just puts his name on the books nowadays, and is mostly retired. I started wondering that when I read my last Dirk Pitt novel, it bit, and now after this one I believe it.

The author had 4 times where "Sam and Remi woke up at home, getting back proved not to be that hard" Letting us know WHAT happened instead of experiencing it. HE tried to make it fun and exciting, but damn does he really t...more

Another Fargo adventure, which I'm on the fence if its better than the Dirk Pitt books or not. I definitely think they are better than the Oregon series, but agree with the other reviews. The writing style is still Clive Cussler, heavy on military details and light on character development. This book was a bit odd, lots of archaeology on the go. While the Fargos always gave the artifacts to proper authorities, the lack of actual archaeological documentation, etc would be a big problem. Don't go...more

In the adventure novel The Kingdom by Clive Cussler, a friend of Sam and Remi Fargo goes missing while looking for the father of Mr. King, an eccentric billionaire. Mr. king hires them to look for their friend, but things are not as they should be.

The Fargo adventures are my favorite series by Clive Cussler, and this book did not disappoint. From a to a well-written and fast-paced story to the absolutely lovely interactions between Sam and Remi, this book has everything I want in a good adventur...more

Hmm...

Boka bærer mer preg av at C...more

At the start a billionaire hires the two protagonists (Sam and Remi Fargo) to find one of their missing friends who is working for king (the billionaire).

As the Fargos take on the task they begin to realise that finding their friend may not be their real objective. They also begin to realise that King who hired them may not be who they originally thought him to be.

After recovering their friend from the clutches of King, the Fargos realise that their friend had been taken to involve them in the...more

I love the globe trekking storyline and adventure, the banter between Sam and Remi. Though once in awhile it would be nice to have one get angry at the other. They'd seem real. Often the detail of complex, MacGyver-ish escapes slow down my reading. While exciting, and I learn alot about rock climbing or how to build a dirigible, they're peppered with words I don't know of things I haven't a clue what they are for. Still, I like Cussler and his co-writer du jour, and I will come back for more.

This was a bit different from other Cussler books in that the Fargos were not trying to stop a bad guy that had some scheme to destroy the world. It was more like a Raiders of the Lost Ark-type adventure. I did find myself going to the computer checking to see if some of the locations and
characters mentioned in the story were real. I read this book as a hardback from the library and I would suggest that the author get a new proofreader as I found many missing words, etc. that a good proofreader...more

You will never be disappointed reading a Clive Cussler adventure. As you can see, I wrote "adventure" rather than book. Mr. Cussler has the amazing ability to bring you into his adventure. The Kingdom is set in the Far East and places the reader in the jungles of Nepal, the Tibetan Autonomous Region and the United States as the search for an historic find
brings the feel of China and that region's poltical stand to the foreground. Greed and power hold the reader captive to the last word. . .

As a long time fan of Clive Cussler and Dirk Pitt, I was looking forward to a new series...even a ghost-written one. I was, however, disappointed in this book. The plot was typical of Cussler, his own particular combination of history, archaeology, and action. On the other hand, the characters were flat and one-dimensional. The reader never really gets to know the Fargos. I found the jumps in action from the end of one chapter to the beginning of the next a disruptive literary device. I will th...more

I love these adventures with Sam and Remi Fargo and this was the best one yet with some of their most creative and unlikely escapes from death-threatening situations. Also it introduces a new researcher who is quite engaging. I hope we see more of him in future books. This time it begins with Sam and Remi trying to rescue a friend but quickly turns into a treasure hunt before the bad guy can kill them or take the treasure for his own nefarious purposes.
Ken
This was a very disappointing book. In fact I stopped reading this series because of this book. The action was disjointed, the plot was unbelievable. The dialog spent more time talking about what they were eating or wearing than explaining what was going on.

It was so extremely obvious that this was a book that was not written by Clive Cussler that it made me sorry that I had wasted my money.

I will not read another Fargo series book!

Cussler began writing novels in 1965 and published his first work featuring his continuous series hero, Dirk Pitt, in 1973. His first non-fiction, The Sea Hunters, was released in 1996. The Board of Governors of the Maritime College, State University of New York, considered The Sea Hunters in lieu of a Ph.D. thesis and awarded Cussler a Doctor of Letters degree in May, 1997. It was the first time...more
