I, Alex Cross (Alex Cross #16)
A Cross family member is murdered, and the case catapults Alex into a world where power masks unfathomable evil.
Detective Alex Cross is pulled out of a family celebration and given the awful news that his niece, Caroline, has been found brutally murdered. Cross vows to hunt down the killer, and soon learns that Caroline was mixed up in one of Washington's wildest scenes.
Chapter 1 of my review of I, Alex Cross
It's been years since I've read any James Patterson. At one point I had gone back to the beginning of the Alex Cross series and read Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls, but just never circled back around to the later entries.
I liked those books well enough, quite a bit actually, in addition to a couple of JP's older non-series books. As a matter of personal preference I usually put some space between installments of a series, and before there ...more

And there sure was A LOT of action. Some parts were gross. I mean, really nauseatingly gross. I had to close my eyes and shake off the gruesome murder scenes more than once. In addition, as the story revolved around a sex club, some chapters contained explicit sex. It was essential to the plot and not just there for shock v ...more
So I picked this one. I knew of the detective Alex Cross and I knew this would be a good series. But I was a little worried about starting at book 16 (lol). This is an amazing audio book. Another fabulous BBC r ...more
One of the better Patterson offerings in the Alex Cross series. From the start a page turner, which is typical for Patterson’s writing style. Here we get, the brutal murder of his estranged niece. Cross takes on the case and runs into a government cover up that goes to the highest levels of the White House.
Of course, you get the gruesome serial killers, the attempts and threats of the Cross family, multiple players who are trying to cover their tracks an ...more
The end is (not a spoiler) just flat out worthless. I actually read the few remaining pages of the next book (advertised at the end of this book) hoping that I would receive something else - anything else ...more
The story was very unnerving. Alex Cross was personally involved in a murder case, wherein the victim’s remains were found in trash bags. The controversial part was that some Whitehouse nerves were ticked during his investigations.
I have to praise the plot of this one. It reminded me of “K ...more

*A niece is brutally murdered
*White House involvement
*Alex’s grandmother (who raised him and is his confessor) is seriously ill in the hospital
*A sensual playground for the rich and famous

When Alex Cross is pulled out of a family celebration with a bad news, you know it is a BAD News. His niece has been murdered and her remains dumped. By hitting so close to home, the miscreant has now become a target of Alex’s personal vendetta. But this is no work of a small time criminal. So, welcome to the world of sex, politics and rule breaking. As expected, it turns out that his niece wasn’t the only victim. There had already been a nu ...more
I enjoy reading Patterson, I like his style of writing. Simple, to the point without the need for endless pointless detail. I've read some negative reviews about the shortness of each chapter, however I think this is ideal, for people who have reading difficulties. It makes reading g more accessible to them. I find on a personal level that short chapters help me with productivity. Having a large family and a hectic lifestyle ...more

Typical James Patterson in the Alex Cross vein. Fast-paced, drama involving "Nana-Mama," scruffy love-hate with the DC Police Department. But easy as it is to read, the same things make it nothing more that beach reading fodder. The books in the Alex Cross series are set in DC, but we get precious ...more

Abuelo's Papas con Chile
I love the papas con chile at Abuelo's and was very excited when I found this recipe last week on the Abuelo's facebook page!
I cut this recipe in half and it made a ton. Papas are Tex-Mex mash potatoes and they make the perfect side dish for Tacos Al Pastor or Mexican Lasagna.

It seems like I always end up in the same cycle. I get disappointed by one or two books by this author and his writing team, only to find out a couple of books that redeem him and place him in my good grace again. I am happy to report that this effort goes in the plus column, since Patterson, writing by himself, delivers a fast-paced and engaging thriller, intertwined with an absorbing plot connected to one of the m ...more
