Only in Regency England could a 26 year old woman be called a spinster and be considered "on the shelf" by those who managed England's marriage mart. Having had only one season and spent party after party gracing the wall as an invisible person, Prudence has made her choice to wear frumpy clothes that are too big for her, wear her gorgeous hair in a severe, uncomplimentary style, keep her attentions to herself and spend her days visiting museums and reading books of note. She is an orphan but th...more
A beautifully written historical romance and one I enjoyed greatly seeing I hadn't read a historical for a while. Delightful characters that seemed so real, an intelligent heroine who knew her way around her own heart and was comfortable (well, almost) in her own skin, and a hero who was a man of honor and a surprising determination to do the right thing. That his "thing" turned into an unsought-for romance and brought alive feelings he was surprised to find he welcomed, was just a wonderful eve...more
I bought this book for the pretty cover. Shallow, yes. But what was between the covers was a pleasant surprise. A steamy, funny, historical romance. This book may have the two nicest leads ever! Prudence and Kolton are both sensitive, sweet, and loyal. Prudence is such a strong woman who does not let the wrongs she's witnessed in her past define her. These characters were so warm and loving at times I thought I needed an insulin shot. I really can't think of any imperfections in them. Usually I...more
A lovely read. I loved Pru. Her character was so well written most of us could relate to her. Pru has some issues she has not shared with anyone. Kolton doesn’t even know and doesn’t understand why she feels she can not marry him or the way she feels about herself. He tries to make her believe she is pretty and wonderful. If only Kolton knew the truth. Will it change his mind or will he continue to make Pru see the truth about herself?

With a lovely mix of a good story, likeable hero and heroine and spicy passion, PERSUADING PRUDENCE by Liz Cole was a really pleasant surprise!
Following her parents' death, Lady Prudence (Pru) Mayville has lived with her cousin Victoria, the second Countess Ravensbrook, in the Stanville household since she was six years old. At the age of twenty-six, she's happy to be a confirmed spinster and all efforts by Victoria and her step-daughter, Amanda, to dissuade Pru from wearing drab clothes and cho...more

Being totally sotted on night, Kolton mistakes Prudence's room for his and sleeps with her taking her virginity. Prudence decides to pretend nothing happened to avoid marrying Kolton out of obligation. Kolton remembers what happened and realizes that even though Prudence has lived with his family since her parents died when she was six, he doesn't know her at all. He does everything in his power to force her to marry him but she continues to refuse. Who will get their way? I liked Prudence. She...more
Pursuading Prudence was a cute and heated story about Prudence. Prudence is a girl who has a past tainted by her father's rejection of her mother. Prudence intentionally avoided becoming involved with any man because she believes that nobody can care for her because her father could not love her mother. By chance, Prudence finds herself embroiled in plot to force her hand in marriage to the one man that she has ever had feelings for. Prudence was an intriguing character and she wraps you into a...more
This was a very engaging story. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars was because the author could have shown more emotion when Pru decides she must leave and when Kolton finds out she's left. Also there were several missing words throughout the story. Even with those, it was well worth reading and I would recommend it to other readers.
Persuading Prudence was a fun historical read that kept me interested through to the last page. What began with a mistaken identity, ended up as a beautiful love story. Prudence was a quiet, shy, unassuming woman, convinced she would remain a spinster. She always had an interest in Lord Ravensbrook, but never felt quite up to his caliber.
Mistaken identity led to a night of passion for both. Once he realized what happened, he wanted to do the 'right' thing, but Prudence would have nothing of it....more

I read this book ages ago...I might have to re-read it
I waffled between 2.5 and 3 stars on this one. It had a promising beginning with an insecure spinster, but instead of being plain and chubby she's actually gorgeous and just has some curves. The sex was steamy. It was also 75% of the story. I liked it well enough but would have preferred if there was more focus on angst and building up of the relationship between the characters, instead of just a non-stop sexathon.
It was so-so. Nothing particularly unique about this plain jane turns beautiful swan story. But still a cute, fun read.

Liz Cole was born and raised in a small town in upstate New York. Her love of romance—the steamier the better—began in her early teens, but it wasn’t until she left her job as a secretary to dedicate herself to being a stay-at-home mom to her to young children that her writing career began. It started with a story rolling around in her head which refused to be ignored. Desperate to turn her mind t...more
