If the French is not a problem this is a very good introduction into the state of research on Neanderthal man. I found it much more informative than the much hyped book by Svante Pääbo because that tells us a lot about genes and the lab work to get to those genes, but nothing about how Neanderthal lived. All the aspects of Neanderthal life are investigated in this book, from tool making to diet to cognitive abilities. The book has no illustrations, but most of the mentioned specimen and ...more
