Anything by Syd Hoff is GREAT! My kids read all his books in the "I Can Read" series when they were somewhere between "phonics" readers and "young" readers.

DJ got this from the school library. read it pretty quick. Think he loves that he can read on his own now, an doesnt have to listen to others do it for him.

This was cute little tale and what's encouraged me to read this is that my newphew read it on the way home the day we got it from the store :D

I understand that this is a classic, but I don't think it really holds up. Plus the plot does not make a whole lot of linear sense.

I saw the cover and thought - oh, yeh, I had this book! Not sure if I liked it. I think I did. Liked the cover, anyway!

Charming. Some of the illustrations of the natives may be considered in bad taste by modern standards.

Another wonderful book for kids ... great illustrations, great fun, and great lessons in life.

Favorite part: When everyone says, "we love to look at the gorilla," and he says, "I love to look at him too!" That is so INCREDIBLY FUNNY!!

Somehow I never got that the huge animal was a gorilla until I was much older. Must have been the illustrations.
