This is the herbal that I recommend to folks just starting to explore medicine-making and home remedies. Frankly, it took me a couple of years to truly appreciate just how easy-to-use yet informative Rosemary Gladstar's book is. The instructions on how to make tinctures, salves, and teas are simple; the formulas are fun and elegant; and the materia medica is to-the-point.

My only bone to pick is that Gladstar has a "women's" section -- dominated by aids to alleviate menstrual pain, address cancer
Great resource. Keep it close by. Recipes, tinctures, factual information. Rosemary is a comprehensive author.
I finally finished reading this one after several years of having this book (this was one of my books that I read most of, and is one of the main herbalism books I use for reference, and have probably read most of it in sections at different times, but never from cover to cover, so missed a few sections here and there but I finally finished it cover to cover). I love this book, I have been using it for years (it is very well researched and contains many recipes and has safety information in it) ...more

Love anything by Rosemary Gladstar - her writing is really down to earth but her decades of experience as a practising herbalist and teacher of medicinal herbs shine through with specific information (the fine print) so you can apply it in a practical way.

As always with Rosemary, there is an enormous respect and love for plants, the environment, her mentors and the elders and ancestors who have passed this knowledge down for thousands of years.

This book breaks herbs down into sections - stress
I need to buy this book already because it's a book I could reference everyday for one thing or another.
Gladstar's philosophy is fairly simple, but this book isn't for everyone. Her recipes call for a lot of herbs and they take time to make, but so far everything I've tried has really worked. It's fun to play witch doctor sometimes. :)
This easy-to-use reference book is helpful for living healthy day-to-day and has herbal suggestions for ailments. Rosemary Gladstar even includes notes about organic sourcing and wild OVER-harvesting of popular plants. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in healing your body without pharmaceutical drugs.

This is a really great book for someone just getting into herbalism. It has a wide range of recipes to assist in several different illnesses. It gives general
"how to's" for tinctures, tea blends, cough syrups, salves, liniments etc. Quit throwing all your money at Whole Foods. DIY or die!
This is a really good reference book to herbs as well as remedies. I think this one will be purchased for my bookshelf. Lots of great skin care recipes too. It's a bit new age-y but I liked how she thought out of the box.
Great book for beginners and experience healers. Makes a wonderful reference book. It contains load of information on herbs there uses and recipes. It even has a few Eastern herbs(i.e. fo-ti and ashwaganda.
A beautiful book filled with natural remedies for common illnesses and complaints.
A great book for a beginner and not too heavy on the "earth-worshipping" that some herbals contain.
Gotta love Rosemary. I'm a sucker for a pretty book with pretty pictures, too. Lots of info and very well organized. Great recipes and knowledge, as usual.
This was the first book I read on herbs. The writing is clear, the photos fantastic and the recipes easy to follow. I have recommended it several times.
My all-time favorite herbal book with a wide-scope of remedies, step-by-step instructions, history, plant facts, resource section, etc.
Everyone should have a copy of this book. It is great for beginners but also has great recipes suitable for advanced herbalists.
So good! I wish it was still in print. I had to get it from the library. An essential herbalism book.
One of many classics that grace my shelves. Rosemary is an invaluable resource.
