Overall, Scofield’s work is important, useful, and applicable. He is clear, provides examples to illustrate his points, and is refreshingly upfront about struggles and areas he and his colleagues learned the “how” of their work. He too often calls people “the poor,” which felt demeaning and disrespectful as the reader. I feel we should talk about people as people—some may experience poverty, yes, but to refer to them as some group of “the poor” does not feel particularly social justice-oriented ...more
