Fantasy is the first book in the Better than 8 series. It's Erin Jamison’s debut novel and has a unique storyline, or at least unique to me. Here’s a little background -

Fantasy is the first book in the Better than 8 series. It's Erin Jamison’s debut novel and has a unique storyline, or at least unique to me. Here’s a little background -

Amara had her heart broken when Adrian, the man she was in love with, married another woman. It’s been four years, but she hasn’t gotten over his betrayal completely and her friends really do think it’s time she moves on. During one of their girl’s nights, one of the friends mentions an online dating service she heard about called Better Than 8. What makes this service unique is that the male members… well, their “member” must be longer than 8inches. The idea is that knowing that little detail - or not so little, as the case may be - right up front helps rid the need for those awkward conversations because it’s already spelled out.

After her friends go home, Amara takes a peek at the site, creates an account and after perusing the profiles, contacts Sevastien who sounds like someone she’d like to get to know better. She doesn’t really anticipate hearing back from him, but she does and that’s the start of a three month online affair. But that’s only the beginning.

I enjoyed Fantasy, and found myself smiling at some of the things Mara’s friends had to say. I really like the premise of this series and I think it’s got the makings of some really fun future stories. I’m giving this book three stars because there were a few editing issues that I found a bit distracting, and some aspects of the story that weren’t explained or resolved enough for my taste.

Oh, and I’m happy to hear that the next book is Adrian’s story - yes, Adrian the moron who dumped Mara for another woman – a woman he was engaged to while still having sex with Mara. And to make matters worse, even though he’s married he keeps coming on to Mara, trying to get her back into his bed! His book is called Better Than 8: Karma, and I can’t wait for Adrian to get what’s coming to him. Perhaps he’ll be the victim of a tragic farming accident and sign up for an online dating site called Better Than Nothing?

I really enjoyed this story, I think there was something for everyone. What I loved best was the relationship Amara had with her girls. it reminded me of the way i=I get along with my girl kiki and the other kinkbags I know. I could see us sitting round the way the girls in the book did. I think that's was why I liked this book so much was because it was so real. set in modern times. and the Internet.I know loads of single girls who have tryed what Amara has done and had just as much fun, and may i say the cyber sex was like wow in this book. But what i thought was funny was that when it came don to doing the dirty deed for real it didn't come across as good as the cyber sex. there have been loads of girls who have said something along these line for real lol. I love the way her friend supported her in what she did and lets face it ladies that's what we need. I ended up being so jealous of Amara with her man and his huge man hood, because lets face it ladies no one wants a teeny weeny do they. lol. I found so many laughable moments in this book and I think this series has got the making of a winning series i really enjoyed it. But I'm going to have to bring this down now because there was a problem with this book. and it was the editing was not very good good with this book, and the only reason i was able to ignore it as well as I did was because the story line was so good. So I'm Sorry Erin I'm having to give your book 4 instead of 5. But i did enjoy this book alot..

That's when one of them told her about a dating site that answered the question before it needed to be asked. It was called betterthan8.com. Interested, she looked into the site and set up a profile. Feeling silly the next day, she logged on to erase her profile and couldn't help but to check out the mail in her inbox. What do you know? She found a rose among the thorns and decided to write him back. Soon they were in an internet relationship with a lot of sexting. They talked a lot, sometimes three times a day. Then she realized that she seemed to be the one initiating a lot of the conversation. Afraid that she was the only one catching feelings, and knowing that he had her email and phone number, she decided to leave the next move up to him.

I really enjoyed this book. There are many reasons why. One of them is the way that it's written. It's very current and uses everyday vernacular. I can easily see myself sitting and relaxing with Amara and her girls. Another reason why I liked it is the issue addressed in the book. Like it or not I'm not ashamed to say that size does matter. I really believe that every woman's body is shaped differently and some need a bigger man. A third reason I liked it was because of Amara's friend Katie. The way that Katie supported Amara's online adventure is a example of a true friend. She didn't laugh at Amara's desire for a well-endowed man and even empathized with her.

There was however, a few things wrong with this book. Most I just noticed, like spelling or typos, and ignored. My grammar is horrendous so who am I to judge? Although, the fact that the author's bio in the back was typed twice was kinda hard to ignore. Another thing that I noticed, that kinda got to me, was Katie's accent. Now Katie and Amara had been really good friends for years, so much so that Katie followed Amara from North Carolina to the West Coast to start their business. Unfortunately Katie's accent came with her. Not that it was bad really, it just didn't strike me as a southern accent. It was an inner city accent in my opinion. The way that she phrased things and dropped the ends of her words made me think of some of my friends and we aren't southern in any way. I'm from Upstate New York for goodness sakes! The final thing that irked me was that with a story base of a big man, I expected the book to be hotter. Don't get me wrong, the sexting was hot but when it came down to them doing the dirty it fell flat for me. It just wasn't hot enough.

Though it may seem that I found more bad than good in this book that's simply not so. Better Than 8: Fantasy was a really fun read. Hot sex or not the emotions in this book were easy to feel and I found myself smiling more than once. I can totally empathize with Amara's plight. I mean, who hasn't wondered about would it would like be with a bigger man?

This book was different, it was interesting. I liked how it wasn't all about the obvious. Not based purely on the sex scenes. My thoughts:
Although this is not usually my genre, I enjoyed Erin's story. The story, although steamy and not for the sexually timid, is centered on the characters. I feel that they represent Erin's desire to show the importance of the people you have and bring into your own life. A rowdy girl's night full of food, wine and talk of an intriguing new dating site called betterthan8.com have her reconsidering her single lifestyle. Through this website she finds a man who changes her life and as their relationship progresses the things he has to offer her leads her to even more life-altering decisions.

This is a very steamy read that starts out slowly and becomes more scorching as the story progresses. Once Amara admits what she wants, she goes after it wholeheartedly by visiting the website and placing an ad where a Lonely Gal Seeking King Kong starts an online relationship with Sevastien. For three months, their relationship only consists of chatting online. It's an intriguing concept and really amps up the sexual tension. The pages of chat transcripts equals a lot of foreplay.

Because of how her ex betrayed her, she's very uncertain of how a fulfilling relationship should be. She's full of doubts and jeopardizes what she has with Sevastien because of those self-doubts. Her ex, Adrian feeds in to her self-doubts and makes her question what she has with Sevastien. I actually found Adrian to be a very creepy character. He shows up uninvited, frequently asks to have sex, all this even though he's married to another. By remaining his friend it proves how low her self-worth is when it comes to men. At least her relationship with her girlfriends is positive. They're a strong-willed group of friends who are able to speak openly about every topic. It's fun watching their girl nights and seeing how realistic their interactions are. I looked forward to these scenes and wish there were more of them.

In the latter stages of the book is when things got very thought-provoking and when my enjoyment dimmed a bit. Amara and Sevastien have finally connected in person and the reader is introduced to the man in Seva's life, Renaldo. This aspect of the story came out of nowhere and felt very awkward. Renaldo immediately proclaims his love, which doesn't feel believable to me since they've had no one-on-one interactions. Having another man in the relationship certainly makes things hotter but coming so late in the story makes me question the believability of what Renaldo wants with her and Seva. I enjoy menage stories, but the couplings have to feel believable, the love has to feel honest. I unfortunately don't feel that here. Her and Seva have a very strong physical connection, but I'm not so sure I'd call it love either. The story ends on a positive note but in my heart I don't feel fully invested in the relationship Amara's chosen because it doesn't feel honest.

The storyline Ms. Jamison created is unique and very intriguing. The female friendships in this story are strong and positive and definitely the highlight. The men in this story weren't as well presented. They ran the gamut from stalker-like to being seen as a sexual object. The sexual interludes, both in chat form and in person, were hot and flowed seamlessly within the story. For the most part I found this to be an enjoyable read, and although I had some issues with where the story went, I do think others would like the concept.(less)

Well, as you'll find out in this book, it's a dating website for women who like their men....um....gifted? *snicker* At first, I thought this story was going to be about guys with huge dicks and the women who want them. And, yea....I guess it kind of is. But what I didn't count on was the great story and the characters that have laid the foundation for this series.

This story focuses on Amara, the only single one in her group of girlfriends. One night at a party, one of her friends jokingly suggest that she sign up for this new dating website called Better Than 8. And she does....mostly as a joke. But when she is contacted by Seva, she starts to think that maybe there's something to this site after all. The two strike up a steamy online flirtation that continues for months, but then suddenly ends shortly after Amara send Seva her phone number. He never calls and the online flirtation comes to a screeching halt. Figuring that he's found someone else or she's been played for a fool, Amara goes about her life.

When Amara gets called away to Puerto Rico on business, who do you think she meets in a business meeting? That's right....Seva. And he's even more beautiful in person than the photos he sent her. I can't even imagine how hard it was for Amara to sit through a long ass meeting with a raging case of lady-wood. Later on that night, Amara and Seva end up at his beach house where they finally have more than instant message sex.

It isn't until the next morning that Amara discovers that Seva has a roommate. A hot male roommate name Naldo. And you can probably guess when I'm going with this, right? And in case you're wondering....yes....it was totally hot. I mean, what's hotter than one buff Latin man making your every sexual fantasy come true? The answer is TWO buff Latin men making your every sexual fantasy come true.

The sex in the book is super hot. But you know what I didn't realize? I didn't realize until I was going back over parts of the book for this review that there isn't really a ton of sex in the book. Remember, Amara doesn't actually meet Seva until much later. And after they meet, yea, there's a lot of sex. But before, it was just hot sexy emails and photos. Obviously it had to be very hot and sexy if I didn't notice that it wasn't actual vag-n-dick sexytimes. So, bonus points to the author for that!

As I said before, I love the concept of this series and the characters that are introduced. Amara's pack of girlfriends are going to be fun to watch....assuming they make it into the rest of the books. (I hope so!) And even if they don't, I'm quite excited to read more about the women (or men) who are turning to the Better Than 8 website to find love! (Good Lord, if only such a site existed. Review:
This tale (and series) has a very intriguing premise. What's interesting is not simply the occurrence of online dating, but the nature of the online dating; here, it's closely and unabashedly tied to sexuality as well as romance.

There were certainly some absolutely fabulous and addictive plot "bombs" that were dropped; on a couple of occasions I had to shout, "Oh, dayum!" Those are always fun. Likewise, the sexiness factor was way up there; I particularly liked how there was real steaminess between two people residing far apart, people who've never having met before. Bravo to that. ^_^ And lastly, protagonist Amara's band of girlfriends are a hoot; scenes with the lot of them together are easily highlights.

I can't lie, though: there were some aspects of the novella that were underwhelming. One issue concerned the overall direction of the plot: in short, I felt there was not much cohesiveness to the story. Taken as a series of interconnected vignettes, the progression (or flow) of events works better, or is at least less jarring.

Furthermore, there were a couple of plot points that required a lot more of a logic leap than would be expected in even erotic romance. Because many of the points in question occurred in the third act, I'll refrain from details. But I will (cryptically) note that I feel there's a relative level of believability within any given story. When characters behave absolutely contrary to their established personalities or beliefs, as a reader I want some exploration of that development beyond a cursory line or two. I felt like that believability was not achieved in certain instances of this story. (Feel free to ask me if you want detailed explanation of what I'm referring to.)

Guess what, though? I plan on reading the next book in the series (forthcoming). The author's explanation of the 8 planned books mentions that each of the stories cover various aspects of digital dating. Sounds intriguing, no? I'm quite interested in seeing how everything is tied together as well as how the other "topics" are approached.(less)
