How does a foul-mouthed angel end up as the last hope for all of Heaven and Earth?

When Seraph Emma is maimed and tossed from Heaven by a rogue angel who's taken charge, she fears she'll never be allowed to return. Tasked with the impossible job of showing the self-loathing (and not even human!) Jason his worth, Emma is sure she's doomed to fail.

Meanwhile, having wormed his...more

Stacia ~ Mistress of Mediocrity
Jan 18, 2013 Stacia ~ Mistress of Mediocrity marked it as did-not-finish
Buddy read w/my 'mods in crime' Carina, Leea, Wendy F and Shera (as well as some of the TPR girls).

Golden Girls book buddy 2013.

*update* I had to drop this one. Yet again, it wasn't the book, it was me. I feel conflicted enough when I read books with demons and fallen angels in them. When I saw that Satan was a character in the book, it made me do a double take. I should have paid more attention to what I was going to read before picking this up. I went into the read blindly as a buddy book chos...more

What a FUN book!!

I have determined that Debra Anastasia is going to tell me an incredibly entertaining story, whether she’s writing the love story of a homeless man, and his completely dysfunctional brothers, or in this case a story of good and evil colliding and finding an unexpected love.

Emma is a seraph who has been sent to earth as Jason’s Christmas Angel. Emma’s job is to show Jason, who is a half-breed vampire his self-worth. Heaven has an aversion...more

Update as of October 26, 2012. Just want to publicly state that since reading this book (in spring of 2011) I have had to make a decision about my personal opinion on pulling fanfiction to publish for money. And I have come down on the side of Not Okay. Hard. This book came out way before the Twilight fanfiction fandom exploded with greed and as I hadn't been able to read it as a fic, I bought and loved the book. Today, I would not have bought it. This practice has broken the fandom in two, and...more

Buddy read with my girls! Blanche, Dorothy and Sophia, and all our friends in TPR!

I gave it a good 25%, but I just can't do it. I had high hopes for this one because of how much I liked Poughkeepsie, but this one felt so spastic. I couldn't follow the plot at all.

*Throwing the towel in*

I still love you girls!

I read the unpublished version of this story and absolutely loved it. It was thoughtful, inspiring, funny, and had a kick-ass heroine. Highly recommended!

A funny and engaging paranormal romance with unpredictable twists, highlighting Anastasia's gift for witty repartee and delightful banter. And really, let's be honest, we all really fall for Satan Jack, right?
Sandra
well, this was certainly different than the FF I read before. A satisfying read, a story full of visuals and allusions. The ending screams sequel and I hope there will be one.

I am loving this book! Emma's "tough girl" with the heart of gold and soul of a warrior queen personae is captivating. Jason is the perfect compliment to her; sensitive, strong, sexy and unabashedly adoring her in spite of the "complicated circumstance they find themselves facing. The prose is lyrical and meets my need to have a visual "film" playing on my reader's "mind screen". I am now at the "I don't want this to end too quickly" and, "I am pro'lly going to read late into the wee morning hou...more

Debra Anastasia does it again. She captivates the reader in this allegorical romance that takes you on a roller coaster of a ride. It has everything, romance, vampires, a smart mouthed, flawed but inherently good angel and a deliciously sexy Devil. When she described the gateway to hell as being the 9th cash register at a large discount chain I literally laughed out loud. (Come on, we ALL have always known it!) The emotional heartstrings Ms. Anastasia deftly pulls while imparting true words of w...more

Is she made of sunlight?

She laughed. “No, silly, aren’t girls made of sugar and spice?”

*Sigh*

Here we have Emma.

A beautiful, infinitely good and sassy angel with a broken wing... Who has one near impossible task before her if she wants her place back in Heaven.

And Jason, the half-minion she's got to save... A half breed vampire with serious self worth issues but a true gentleman and total swoon worthy who can't help but fall for the angel.

Their meeting is far from ordinary but then, asshole Evere...more

Well, take two... GoodReads ate my previous review >:-\

It is no secret that I love Debra Anastasia. She's one of my all time favorite writers. This take of Heaven and Hell did not disappoint!

It's hard giving a good review without giving away any of the book. And I don't want to do that to you. This story is filled with love, and hope, and sex, and lust. And that's just the Angel!
Debra took angels and devils, and put a new spin on them. I loved the way she explained the existence of Vampires,...more

I cannot give a five star review to a book that makes me like the devil. It disturbs me greatly. Why would I cheer for a being that most of us are taught to fear and keep the hell away from? Because at the end of the day, Debra Anastasia did the impossible and gave that fearsome creature something to love.

This book starts out in Hell as the Devil grants one of the minions to enter Earth for a possibility of love. Never thinking that the plan will work, Sata...more

*sigh* I really liked this book, at first. I really liked Debra Anastasia's take on angels and God. I really loved her descriptions. Especially of the angels and their wings. And I really enjoyed Seraph Emma as a character at first. She was amusing and determined. ***Massive spoiler alert*** Yes she saves heaven. If the story had ended there it would have been fine The problem is it didn't and I finished it simply because I was hoping it would make sense why it didn't if I finished the book. This is not, "just another angel story". God is trapped in Hell, Emma, an angel, has to work with a Vampire, to help get him out. Emma meets Satan and finds out that he is not really bad, and they work together to get the one angel who disrupted Heaven, save God and maybe even save the Devil!

Emma is a great character, very self sacrificing and it gets her into sticky situations, from which she needs rescusing. I will definately follow this group of characters into the next story.

How can I put into words how I felt reading this?... Ho Li Shit!

It’s like I went to war with only one bullet on my gun, like I went bungee jumping and the rope got cut mid air, like Superman decided to take a nap while Lex Luthor raised hell all over town.

I was jumping, laughing out loud, cussing like a sailor (which I don’t like doing), giving my sister the middle finger every time she tried to take me out of my room, and honest to God, I shit you not, my mom was thinking about calling the hosp...more

THIS WAS SO SLOW IN THE BEGINNING AND IF I WAS NOT DOING THIS BUDDY READ I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CHUCKED IN THE "JUST CAN'T" SHELVE. I AM SO GLAD FOR GR FRIENDS LETTING ME KNOW IT GOT BETTER. IT KEPT ME GOING. I SHOULD I HAVE KNOWN THAT ONCE I MET JACK I WOULD BE ADDICTED TO HIS DEVILISH WAYS. EMMA WAS A VERY LIKABLE CHARACTER AND SHE DID KEEP ME ENTERTAINED. MY FRIENDS HERE HAVE GIVEN MUCH BETTER REVIEWS OF THIS BOOK SO I GUESS I WILL JUST CONTINUE ON THIS RANT OF WHO I LOVED THE BEST.

I don't even know where to start? The style, the characters, the ending? Oof.

Why did it end that way? Is there another part that I can't see.? I think I love that it has ended that way though, too many stories carry on in other novels and you begin to tire of the characters. I think the way this one has ended is perfect. Sure, it's a cliffhanger, but at least you get to believe it ended well, which is really what the story is about right? belief?

I'm in no way religious so I'm so happy I got to r...more

This book definitely wasn't what I thought it would be. I loved the authors take on angels, demons, God, and the devil but the plot and overall story just didn't live up.

First off, it took me almost to the 70% mark just to get into it. How I lasted that long without chalking this up to DNF baffles me. After that point I started getting into it mainly because of Jack and his one-liners. I think in the beginning I just kept reading expecting something to happen to make me love or even like this b...more

The ideas of what we have painted in our minds as to what heaven and hell consist of are twisted completely while reading this book. I never thought I'd see the day when I would cheer for the Devil (aka Satan aka Jack) to get the girl. I also never thought I'd see the day where the devil has a geniuine love for someone else that he's willing to sacrafice himself. However, his matyrism (spelling??) is nothing in comparrison with Emma. Emma is forever changing from a Seraph to a human to a tree dr...more

Ok, so I read this a couple of weeks ago. I keep thinking about this book and want to read it again. I am highly anticipating the sequel. So I am changing my rating from **** to *****. I'm allowed, right?

3.5 stars I did love Emma, Jack and even Jason. God as Santa was unexpected. Emmett was a bastard, and truly through and through, you had no reason to like him, pity him or find him redeemable and I liked that. Heaven seems to consistently be a messed up place if you go by most literature. Perhaps never dying is the secret. This is an interesting book. I cried and I laughed but I was also very easily distracted and it was a little too easy to put down. For me, it was the way the story was writte...more

After reading so many great reviews for not only the author but this book. I was disappointed. I felt the dialogue between the characters was stilted and forced. I read a few reviews that thought the book should have ended at the saving of heaven and I can see their point. It felt like a natural place to stop, it felt like the remaining book was an after thought when a series came to mind. I admit, I found the end of the book the most intriguing part and I'm glad that it got added because if, an...more

I can say that this book was pretty unique. There are so many great books out there that are predictable, which is fine... but nothing is better than reading a book and really not being sure what is going to happen next! Love that! From the author that made me LOVE a homeless guy named Blake, and a thug named Beckett... she now has me swooning over Satan! Yea, I know right?

What’s truly more dangerous?

No idea what was going in the first few chapters of the book...half-breed, satan, god in hell...what the ?! I couldn't get into the story at all it seemed all over the place and the characters were a joke in my opinion. I've seen so many good reviews about this book but somehow I can't bring myself to say one good thing about it.
Vanessa
The characters in this book, angelic much? I don't think so!!! Not even the "good" angels were entirely good, including Emma who was a little bit cruel with Jason in the beginning.
Apart from that, this book is funny and the angels behavior is definitively different from other angel's books.

I read this book in one sitting. That rarely happens, but I love it when it does. Crushed Seraphim puts a whole new twist on the battle between good and evil. Seraph Emma is not your typical angel. She is tough, snarky and a little bit irreverent.

It’s not very hard to find sympathy for Jack, the devil. He is the most surprising of characters. I was both cheering for him and crushing on him by the end of the story. The unexpected is what makes this...more

Debra Anastasia is busy, just like every other mom. There's dinner, the dogs, the kids, and their homework. The laundry pile turns into a big, heaping monster. When the clothes finally make it into the washer, it gets unbalanced and puts on an elaborate show before it cuts out. This crazy job that never ends is her first love and her crowning achievement.

Her writing started a decent handful of yea...more
