It was a really fun little read. Lots of lyrics. Lots of accolades from famous authors including Amy Tan, Dave Barry, Maya Angelou, Carl Hiassin, Scott Turow. It turns out that some of these authors are in a little combo band:

"Don't Quit Your Day Job" Records

Give it up, suspend your credibility for the Rock Bottom Remainders! Members of this notorious, mostly-author rock band have included Dave Barry, Tad Bartimus, Roy Blount, Jr., Mi More...

It's October, but I just got around to the beach read "And My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You."

Nevermind that the the entire premise of the book — that a backup country singer could record a demo before going on tour and somehow not know it becomes an overnight success — is completely ludicrous. Granted, the book is set in 1993, before the ubiquity of cell phones and email. But come on.

The book chronicles Sarah Jean Pixlie's newfound fame and introduces us to he More...

Well now, sweet thangs! No, to drop the Southern pose completely, this book is one I would never have read, had it not been given to me by a dear friend. Having read it, I wonder (a little) what that friend actually thinks of me.

The good parts of this book - it is infectiously sweet. The author is a chum of Carl Hiaasen apparently, and the roller-coastery, good guys in drifter jobs, bad guys in suits, style that is his trademark has obviously rubbed off on Kamen Goldmark. She knows More...

The cardinal rule of writing a novel with any sort of mystery is that you should include the protagonist in the resolution of same. It doesn’t happen here. Of course, I also expected this one to be a clever and witty peek at one songwriter’s creativity. It wasn’t.

A very silly book about a country music singer's rapid career rise and fall while her personal life goes haywire. Complete with cheesy country music lyrics and cast of characters one could only find in the San Francisco Bay area, it's cute but unremarkable.

Very likable book. Suffiecient beach/plane read. Not deep literature, but a fun story. My only complaint was her otherwise smart main character's completely ludicrous and irresponsible disregard for basic safe sex (in 1993, really??) and blatantly nonchalant decision to become a mother ("with the same care she used to decide to go on tour?) followed by her indifferent attitude towards the douchey biological father and finally ending up with theother "wrong" guy. I enjoyed so many More...

this book should thank me for giving it my time of day.

it had too many plots (i'm thinking maybe because it tried to be interesting). the author tried to create twists & surprises but seriously, some of them were absurd, some were lame and, some, both.

Interesting look at the Country music industry thru the eyes of back up singer from Lake county. Was a fun and easy read. Going to hear the author sing in the City tomorrow...makes it even more fun.

Tried this one again, gave up on it again.

There are a bunch of reasons I'd love to like this one (the main character's band is nicknamed "The Drifters" - so is my boyfriend's!... I met Goldmark at Litquake, where I heard her read from this... she's a local author... blah blah) but the main character is really vacant and silly, even for a young'un (she's in her 20s) and I just don't care what happens to her.

Maybe I'll try again sometime, but for now: abandoned ag

A light, quick read. Not the best out there, but entertaining enough for a wait in the airport and a plane ride.

Love story with a contemporary country music twang. Fun and informative about the music business. She's on the road as a back up singer and learns that something she recorded on a whim has made it big and she's in line for the Patsy newcomers award. A wacky extended family and good friends carry her through the bad and good times.

This was exactly what the book jacket made it out to be, a fun, light read with an interesting look into the world of country/blues/bluegrass music. I feel certain many of the musical greats mentioned here at singers/artists/players I should look up. I'd likely enjoy most of them!

It struck me as funny that a main character what named Otis (like our new dog) and nicknamed "Oats" (like our new dog.

Totally fun book: quirky family, brave but confused heroine, Patsy Cline. Great beach read or curled up in bed with cocoa depending on the time of year.
