Fatto di racconti separati l'uno dall'altro, senza un minimo di connessione logica tra loro, molti decisamente eccessivi nel cercare l'esagerazione e lo splatter a tutti i costi, basati anche su vecchie favole tradizionali con la conseguenza che nonostante lo stravolgimento scontato della storia, o forse proprio a causa di questo, erano molto prevedibili nel loro svolgimento. Il Guardiano degli Innocenti � posteriore a questo La Spada del Destino, ma in realt� contiene per la maggior parte racconti scritti in precedenza e ripubblicati come una nuova raccolta. Molte delle ragioni che mi avevano reso sgradevole Il Guardiano degli Innocenti sono ancora presenti in questo secondo volume, ma appaiono anche aspetti positivi che nel mio giudizio lo fanno passare ad un livello leggermente superiore, tanto da farmelo consigliare per la lettura di questo mese, anche se non solo non � una buona narrazione, ma spesso � al limite della sufficienza. I personaggi sono sostanzialmente delle macchiette, tutti, anche i principali, perch� sono sempre esagerati in tutti i loro aspetti e nelle loro emozioni. Lo stile di scrittura rispecchia questa scelta, mescolando un narrativo fabuloso ad un narrativo ironico e a volte decisamente comico. Niente � preso sul serio, ma tutto � esposto seriamente all'occhio divertito dello spettatore che sa di vedere uno spettacolo, non una scena reale. I dialoghi sono molto ben gestiti, e scorrono facilmente, con una ironia di fondo sempre presente, con la continua consapevolezza che nessuno si prende mai troppo sul serio, come se sapesse di recitare su di un palcoscenico per rappresentare al meglio possibile un personaggio del tutto irrealistico. Questo aspetto � forte nelle parti di descrizione, di ambiente, mentre le parti introspettive, di autoanalisi ed autocommiserazione, dove Sapkowski cerca di costruire la psicologia dei suoi personaggi, sono invece troppo prolungate, intricate e al livello soporifero del primo volume, anche se per fortuna sono decisamente di meno. Quando si arriva per� alle scene di azione, tutto cambia d'improvviso, perch� Sapkowski sa far vedere quello che succede con estrema efficacia, sa descrivere i movimenti dei singoli come quello di pi� persone, di umani come di mostri con arti ed appendici del tutto peculiari. In poche parole, rende visibile l'azione che avviene per quella che �, in tutti i suoi dettagli, con un punto di vista saldo nella testa di Geralt. Questa volta i diversi capitoli (racconti) hanno una consequenzialit� e una coerenza che fanno avvicinare l'intera narrazione ad un vero romanzo, e il penultimo capitolo (racconto), che d� il titolo all'edizione italiana, da solo rappresenta un ben riuscito tentativo di dare unit� al tutto, e riunifica il passato e condiziona il futuro. Nello sviluppo successivo della storia di Geralt di Rivia questo episodio rappresenter� un momento che d� indirizzo al tutto. Un problema deriva dal fatto che successivamente alla pubblicazione di questi racconti e dei successivi romanzi, � stato sviluppato un Gioco di Ruolo che ha avuto un successo internazionale prima dei romanzi stessi. Anche dovuto al fatto che nelle diverse lingue si sono avute traduzioni da fonti diverse dall'originale, come per la versione italiana ottenuta da quella inglese, nomi e denominazioni varie non sono sempre corrispondenti alla versione originale, mentre Sapkowski ha esplicitamente richiesto che i romanzi venissero tradotti solo dall'originale polacco. Questo ha comportato delle variazioni rispetto alle abitudini degli appassionati del gioco, che se ne sono lamentati. Io ritengo che da un gioco di ruolo sia praticamente impossibile derivare dei romanzi di qualit�, e tutti gli infiniti prodotti con lo stampino da DD o equivalenti stanno l� a dimostrarlo, ma � anche difficile che da un buon romanzo di qualit� possa derivare un soddisfacente gioco di ruolo, e questo caso lo conferma: il gioco � decisamente superiore alla qualit� dei romanzi. Il ogni caso, pur con tutti i limiti esposti, credo che La Spada del Destino meriti una lettura attenta, perch� contiene aspetti del fantastico non facile da trovare, oggi, in altri romanzi. E se si � coscienti che non si sta leggendo un capolavoro, la soddisfazione della lettura � adeguata.(less)

Auch der zweite Band der Hexer-Saga konnte mich nicht vollends in den Bann ziehen. Dafür ist mir Geralt um einiges sympatischer geworden, ich kam mit seiner Art und Denkweise in diesem Teil besser zurecht. Schön war es, wieder dem Sänger Rittersporn zu begegnen, obwohl er manchmal eine ganz schöne Nervensäge ist.

La Spada del Destino ha due lame. Una sei tu, l'altra è la morte.

Se devo ancora trovare le parole per poter commentare

(oltre che ribadire che a fine lettura si prova la stessa sensazione che rimirare Marat mezzo nudo), non è che per questa seconda raccolta di racconti vada molto meglio.
Al che il dubbio è lecito, magari il problema non è il libro ma sono io xD

Ma tagliamo corto il preambolo e veniamo al dunque: Sapkowski mi spiazza. In questo libro ancora più che nel precedente. Mi spiazza, e ogni tanto mi fa dubitare delle mie capacità di comprensione, perché le sue storie nascondono strati su strati e spesso mi sono trovata a chiedermi se lo strato a cui ero giunta io fosse quello giusto. O se ce ne fosse un altro ancora. O se proprio non avessi capito nulla.

Il problema è Geralt. E anche Yennefer, per carità. Ma Geralt, soprattutto. Geralt è un ossimoro. E' uno strigo che dubita, è uno strigo che ha paura dei suoi dubbi, è uno strigo perso alla ricerca della sua vita. E' uno strigo che uccide mostri, per educazione e lavoro, e che ormai ha capito che gli uomini che gli danno lavoro sono spesso mostri come e quanto più di quelli che uccide. E' uno strigo che prova emozioni. E' uno strigo che ama. E cosa può sconvolgere ancor più la psiche di questo uomo se non i suoi rapporti con le donne? Ed è così che i racconti ci presentano Geralt alle prese con diverse donne della sua vita, la onnipresente Yennefer, con Essi, con la madre, con Calanthe, con Ciri, e tante altre. E ogni donna mette sempre più a nudo le contraddizioni di questo strigo sempre più perso.

Non tutti i racconti sono ugualmente belli, ma tutti hanno degli elementi che li rendono speciali. Alcuni dialoghi sono delle perle assolute. Geralt e Yennefer. Geralt e Istredd. Geralt e Essi. Geralt e Eithné. Geralt e Calanthe. Dialoghi che feriscono, confondono, esaltano. Dialoghi che da soli meritano la lettura di tutta la raccolta.

Sapkowski non è un autore semplice. O meglio lo è, in apparenza. Sia

che

ci presentano una serie di racconti da avventura cappa e spada, rivisitazioni di fiabe e leggende, battaglie, mostri e pericoli che ben fan capire come mai da questa serie è stato tratto un videogiochi di grandissimo successo. Eppure Sapkwoski è molto di più: un autore che non si tira indietro se deve tirare un pugno al suo lettore. Un autore che non risparmia nulla. Un autore davanti a cui è impossibile non rimanere un po' spiazzati.

Spero che la Nord vada avanti a pubblicare questa serie: nel caso, io sarò in prima fila a gustarmi i dubbi e le avventure del Lupo Bianco.

What a pleasant surprise. I've heard good things about the Witcher books, of which the Witcher video games are based on, and I wasn't disappointed. This collection of short stories is not available in an official English translation so I had to read the fan translations. A very enjoyable and well-written continuation of Geralt of Rivia's adventures in monster-hunting. In this book killing monsters is secondary to Geralt's character development and having his past catching up to him as he ages. For me the book's tempo and general pacing "feels weird" at times, I can't say if that's due to the translation (I read it in Finnish) or the writer, but I don't think it as a minus since the reading experience of this was enjoyable.

Kromě toho, že úkolem zaklínače je zabíjet nestvůry, je tato kniha plná propletených motivů a úvah o tom, zda můžeme uniknout před svým osudem. Geraltův osud je malá princeznička Ciri, protože zaklínač nemůže mít děti. Osud je hledání grálu = něčeho, bez čeho život ztrácí smysl. Čtyři hvězdičky dávám za příliš umělý (ale vtipný) závěr, v němž se sejde spousta z předcházejících postav na svatbě Geralta a Yennefer. Ale myslím, že autor si byl takového pohádkového zakončení moc dobře vědom.

Espectacular.
Geralt de Rivia no necesita batirse contra monstruos y criaturas feas en cada página para engancharte con la historia, y eso es una de las cosas que más me gustan de la saga. El libro es bastante filosófico, enfocado en los personajes y sus motivaciones más que en sus hazañas. En un género saturado de guerreros invencibles y princesas por salvar, la narración de Sapkowski es refrescante y la da su toque de originalidad.

Otherwise known as "The Sword of Destiny."

There is, unfortunately, no official English version of the second collection of Witcher short stories. I would have tried the Spanish if I had been able to track it down, but instead was forced to read a very tolerable fan translation that I found on a search through Projekt Red's Witcher forums.

Coś drgnęło. Nie, nie wiedźmiński naszyjnikna obecność magii. Poodobno opowiadania są średnie, ale dalsze tomy się rozkręcają i składają w bardziej spójną całość. Opis świata jak i sam świat sam sie nie zmienił, co mnie nie cieszy za bardzo. Jednak już widzę jakiś ciąg logiczny, zapowiedź czegoś co będzie się działo dalej. Very similar to the previous Witcher book I read, "The Last Wish", except obviously this one is in Spanish. I'll admit I'm not as high-level of a reader in Spanish as I am in English, but the translation seemed just as good if not better than the English translation of Last Wish. Je suis hyprochrite avec moi-même je n'ai donné que 3 étoiles au premier livre, mais que'est-ce que j'ai fais après j'ai acheté les 6 autres et est passé a travers a la vitesse grand V.

Alors ce n'est peut-etre pas le matériel le plus original jamais écrit mais c'est très efficace.

J'ai aussi bien aimé la fin du livre qui discute de la destiné, mais l'auteur joue un peu avec nous avant de nous confirmé ou s'en va l'histoire.

Още от същото. Малко ме дразни великата любовна история на Гералт и Йенефер, какъв им е точно проблемът така и не можах да вдяна. Някои плюят че Лютичето бил много дразнещ. Мен ме дразни яко Цири, а така като гледам ще е основен персонаж в следващите книги. като за четене на телефона в тролея стават, та ще чета и следващата.

Kohtalon miekassa pidin erityisesti kahdesta viimeisestä tarinasta, joita voi myös pitää pohjustuksena seuraavaan Haltiain verta romaaniin. Viimeisessä kertomuksessa Jotain enemmän tarinaan sisältyi monta pientä tarinaa. Rakenne miellytti ja tarinasta sai yllättävän paljon kokonaisnäkemystä. Hay finales que merecen un libro… y sin duda el fin de este es uno de ellos. Puede que Geralt no crea en el destino, pero Sapkowski si debe de creer en él. De repente, o quizá no tanto, todas las historias que en los dos libros parecían simples retales, excusas para usar un personaje interesante, van hilando poco a poco un todo, cruzando y anudándose como se teje una tela de araña.

A remarkably non-sword and non-sorcery set of stories for a sword-and-sorcery genre. Lots of navel contemplation about love, fate, and human relationships. There is the occasional battle to break up the character-building, but it's all mostly drama.

An excellent group of stories continuing on from "The Last Wish".

This helps to further immerse you within Geralt's world and is vital reading before you dive in to the 5 novels.

I loved it, especially the last two stories with Ciri, she is SO awesome. And the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer in this book is really touching, I have to admit I cried a few times. Cannot waste any more time now, the saga awaits. :)

Das ist der zweite Band der Geralt-Saga.

Das Buch beinhaltet sechs Abenteuer des Hexers. Diese sind lose miteinander verknüpft.
Die Geschichten sind mal mehr hunmoristisch mal auch etwas ernster.

Mir persönlich hat die sechste Geschichte Etwas mehr am besten gefallen.
Sie gibt Einblicke in Geralts Geschichte und in sein Seelenleben.

De hekser in 'Het Zwaard van het lot' wordt heftig heen en weer geslingerd door de gevoelens jegens zijn geliefde, die onbereikbaar is. Lot of noodlot? Voorbestemming? Het zijn vragen die soms te zwaar gaan wegen in een boek met voor het merendeel aardige avonturen en droge humor als het gaat om dialogen.

The main character of The Witcher (alternative translation: The Hexer) is Geralt, a mutant assassin who has been trained since childhood to hunt down and destroy monsters. Geralt exists in an ambiguous moral universe, yet manages to maintain his own coherent code of ethics. At the same time cynical and noble, Geralt has been compared to Raymond Chandler's signature character Philip Marlowe. The world in which these adventures take place is heavily influenced by Slavic mythology.

Sapkowski has won five Zajdel Awards, including three for short stories "Mniejsze zło" (Lesser Evil) (1990), "Miecz przeznaczenia" (Sword of Destiny) (1992) and "W leju po bombie" (In a Bomb Crater) (1993), and two for the novels "Krew elfów" (Blood of Elves) (1994) and "Narrenturm" (2002). He also won the Spanish Ignotus Award, best anthology, for The Last Wish in 2003, and for "Muzykanci" (The Musicians), best foreign short story, same year.

In 1997, Sapkowski won the prestigious Polityka's Passport award, which is awarded annually to artists who have strong prospects for international success.

In 2001, a Television Series based on the Witcher cycle was released in Poland and internationally, entitled Wiedźmin (The Hexer). A film by the same title was compiled from excerpts of the television series but both have been critical and box office failures.

Sapkowski's books have been translated into Czech, Russian, Lithuanian, German, Spanish, French, Ukrainian, and Portuguese. An English translation of The Last Wish short story collection was published by Gollancz in 2007.

The Polish game publisher, CD Projekt, created a role-playing PC game based on this universe, called The Witcher, which was released in October 2007. There is also a mobile version of the game which has been created by Breakpoint Games and is being published by Hands-On Mobile in Western Europe,Latin America and Asia Pacific.

The English translation of Sapkowski's novel Blood of Elves won the David Gemmell Legends Award in 2009.(less)
