Dear Aspiring Author,
if you finish writing a book and read it over again a couple times (some punk decided to call that stage editing - crazy stuff) and you notice that it screams lion and lamb at you, something has gone wrong.
Because, even if Twilight is crazy popular and earned a lot of money, it's still crap, technique-wise. And, call me idealistic, I feel like quality should be what any writer should strive for in writing.
I mean, we all laugh about the idiots going to American Idol, who act...more

Wow. I can't believe everyone is giving this book 5's. Maybe my expectations are too high for YA. Was this written by a 16 year old? I didn't feel the chemistry between the characters build at all. The writing was so stiff and obvious it was distracting! The dialog used in was not at all how normal teens would talk and interact.
For example, does this sound like the response of a teen customer in a store to Claudia's best friend Patty after following around Patty looking like "a lost puppy" whil...more

I cannot express how refreshing it is to find something in the paranormal romance genre that is not about vampires, werewolves, or zombies. NOT saying there is anything wrong with vampires and such (I like those books too), I'm just saying that it is nice to read something different. To give a general idea, this book is like Twilight but with angels vs demons. I think in some ways, for the more conservative parents, they would enjoy the tone of this book for their teens since it doesn't focus he...more
Crossroads is a book that I think is the ultimate Young Adult book. It is a book I would have my own 16 year old read. It offers great romance and faith based living. It follows a young girl raised by a single mom and a caring Gamma(a name my kids also used)who comes of age in the most remarkable way.
Filled with star crossed lovers, fantastical creatures, good friends, beautiful places and evil, this book is an easy read. This easy to follow plot is full of twists, turns, surprises and battles...more

Wow! This book is totally left open for much, much more, which is exciting because I love books in a series! I can't wait to see Claudia open up and blossom into the full being she can be! I think there is way more to Austin's story than is given in the book. I see a great triangle brewing here. If you remember, Gamma said she sent someone to watch over Claudia and Michael didn't know that! I can not wait to learn more about the Alkins, Michael's friends. I want to know so much more about their...more
Let me first start off with my difficulty. This is my first romance novel, and I would stay away from romance novels and movies of such, unless my date promises to watch a horror movie with me, and let me drink the entire night until I get smashed, and yet she has to kiss me. Even at that, I would still think twice about going to a romantic movie.
Now that is out, I would like to say this for the book. I actually enjoyed it. :) I do admit there are parts I feel uncomfortable with, and mostly jeal...more

I read Crossroads in just two days because I couldn't put it down. The plot is a new and unique one: Claudia sees people in her dreams, beings who warn her to stay away. Her friends calls to ask whether she's okay because, for a moment, they thought Claudia was dead. But instead, it's someone else with the same name who dies the same way Claudia dreamed.
At first, Claudia thinks everyone worrying is the result of her friend's death, but that soon turns enigmatic when the people around her become...more

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! I finished reading in 2.5 days and I can't hardly wait for the sequel. This book will keep you guessing and fall in love all over again :) If you like reading about angels this should be your next book to read! Mary Ting is a brilliant writter! You definitely won't want to miss out on this book ;)
Crossroads is an exciting debut book with a rich paranormal mythology, unique angel-lore, forbidden romance, action, suspense and plot twists. With her detailed writing and a plot that flow wells, Mary created a a world I enjoyed visiting, and a story that was hard to put down.

Really enjoyed this book! It was a very quick read and definitely left you wanting more. I was very pleased that there was going to be a sequel.
Although there are some similarities for our favored Twilight influences, I loved the forbidden love for a human and an angel. It explores an area that we don't often think about and brings up great discussion, even on the topic of are there angels and what is their role in our life.

This was a very entertaining story. Crossroads contains action, twists, and romance that has you flipping through the pages so fast that you're at the end and ready for more before you know it. The strong romantic attachment came on very early in the book for Claudia and Michael. It would have been nice to see Micheal's attitude hang around a little longer to build up some anticipation. Even though their relationship intensified so quickly, the pace of the story itself flowed naturally. Claudia...more

Currently there are a wide variety of young adult books that deal with angels... I've read a lot of them. Crossroads is a welcome addition, especially for those looking for a different, unique twist on fallen angel/guardian angel mythology.

While dreaming Claudia Emerson unknowingly steps into another world and meets a race of half humans and angels known as Alkins. The Alkins tell Claudia that because she has crossed into the crossroads she is now in danger from an evil group known as the Fallen. Due to the danger Claudia is in, the Alkin agree to protect her. One of her protectors is Michael, an Alkin that Claudia feels attracted to and although she didn’t get the greatest first impression from him, can’t help but be intrigued by...more
I was provided a free copy of this book by the author, Mary Ting, in a Goodreads giveaway. It's another spin on the angel/human supernatural YA genre, but this one is nice because it's about more than fighting a villain and forbidden romance.
This is a good YA book which I was pleasantly surprised by. Ting writes well, and since this is one of her first published books I'm sure she'll only get better.

Crossroads is a book about a girl named Claudia, who a bit later in the book, has essentially a guardian angel who protects her from harm. I liked the plot in this book and also the characters. I did find the relationship to begin very fast and also it struck me as odd when Michael and Claudia don't really try to hide their relationship, and yet there are no consequences. However, I did enjoy the side characters such as Davin, and I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for Austen. Overall, this wa...more
I just finished the book! It took me a while to finish it because I was really busy lately but I really loved it!
I totally confirm what I first said about it: the story really hooks the reader from the very beginning, the characters are really interesting (especially the angels with their really different yet complementing personalities) AND the story is really amazing!! I loved it.

What an absolutely enticing book! Most definately one of the best I've read this year! The author has captured the being that is human so truthfully that it make you think about life and beyond! The book contains everything you need to make it a great, unputdownable book: love, courage, hope, sadness, heartache, longing and of course adventure! Three Cheers to Mary Ting who has done an amazing job with this one! Absolutely fabulous! Would recommend it to anyone and everyone! The time for Angels...more
I adored this book and was so sad when I finished it. I didn't want it to end. I feel like these people are my friends and I want to continue on their journey with them. I always know it's a special book when I am thinking of the story as I'm doing something else or I can't get it out of my head after I finish reading it. I am going to pick it back up and re-read it, that's how much I LOVE it and am not ready for it to be over. I haven't re-read a book in a very long time!!!

This book was absolutely amazing. I read it in half a day, it was just impossible to put down. All through-out the book, I felt like I was right there experiencing everything with Claudia. From her sadness over her friends death to the adrenaline rushes that came with the fights with the fallen angels to her falling in love. It felt so real. This book was awesome!!! I love the characters, especially Michael and Claudia. And the chemistry between the two...all I can say is..HOT!!! I can't wait for book two. Just like Michael says to Claudia, “However long I’m gone, it will be too long." Yes, it will be too long. So hurry and write the second book please!!!!
First I want to say that I won this book from Mary herself in a giveaway on the crossroads Facebook page and I am so happy I did!

Recommends it for:
YA fantasy and paranormal readers
Crossroads is a great, romantic YA read. I tend to shy away from YA trends, so I'd never read any of the angel books that came out. But Ting manages to intertwine so many elements that I forgot all about my hesitance.
The protagonist's journey is full of twists and turns, some of them quite surprising. But all the time you know she's headed for love...or at least you root for her to get her guy (er, I mean, angel).
Definitely a book I'd recommend to YA readers, especially ones who like paranorma...more

Five stars, on steroids!
Turning 18, for Claudia Emerson, is just another day in the life, in her opinion. However, other planes of reality have other plans.
Things are getting really weird. For one, her dreams of a land distinguished by two intersecting roads and tall grass, dreams she’s had all her life, are getting too real. The people in those nighttime sojourns are noticing her, talking to her, telling her to go back. This baffles and angers her; after all, it isn’t her idea to come to this p...more

This book is a little bit cheesy, but it's a very sweet and interesting story. I'm usually not into all the demons and supernatural beings, but this book didn't go overboard. There were a few confusing moments trying to keep track of every character. The main character leads a double life, one with her normal friends and family, the other with supernatural beings. The first one is pretty basic. A regular home life and a few close friends, but the excitement in her other life makes up for it.

My goodness, this book was horrid. I cannot understand why this book has so many five star reviews. I have now vowed never to trust Goodreads' reviews again. This book was absolutely horrible and annoying. It was worse than Twilight which I thought was complete garbage. Obviously this book was written for young adults, specifically idiotic and shallow teenage girls who live in a fantasy world of flowers and oh, so beautiful men. I felt as if i were reading a book for really naive middle school g...more
