Karen Rose is one of my favorite, go-to authors for a masterful romantic thriller and one of the best when it comes to chilling suspense and creepy killers. Her storylines are always intricate, gripping, and taut, and this is certainly no exception, with a complex plot that deals with wrongful imprisonment, conspiracy, murder, intrigue, and political machinations.

This latest from Rose is more to my liking:) Ms Rose put the romance back into her murder thrillers in this one so I got what I like in my RS - a good balance of romance and suspense. In this case, 50/50; Those who prefer more focus on romance would likely disagree, though. For me, though, NOLtT is still very much a murder mystery and the MCs are totally focused on resolving the issues that have arisen following the death of Elena, Ramon's wife. Elena had been trying to get her husband's case re-opened based on the new evidence she obtained but her death unleashes a chain of events that keep Paige Holden and Grayson Smith busy right up to the last page.

Unlike the previous books, I found I was able to follow the plot, complex though it is, as all Ms Rose's books have been. There are also a lot of secondary characters and seemingly unconnected side stories, all characteristic of the author. Fortunately, I wasn't lost in the crowd this time and could easily follow every thread.

Both MCs are likeable even though Grayson isn't my fav Karen Rose hero. That's still Aidan Reagan from

and, strangely enough, David Hunter, whose book, Silent Scream only got 2 stars from me.

One thing that stuck in my mind as I read was that the plot must be more complicated than what had registered in my mind but in the end, it wasn't. It just felt that way because it's very intense, as all KR books are and about 3/4 of the book takes place in just 2-3 days. It was this that pulled me out of the story several times so I can't help but wish Ms Rose would stop that. Every time the dateline showed I was still on the same day, or just one day after, I had to stop and check just to make sure only 24 hours had lapsed or that less than 48 hours had gone by and I'd be incredulous when I wasn't mistaken. This was the only unreal and disruptive part but only if you allow the dates to affect you. If you can ignore the datelines, then the way the story progresses is natural, even if Grayson and Paige fall in love almost instantly. 'Almost' because both are leery of their instant attraction and their defenses go up immediately. 'Instantly' because hey - after three days they are talking about 'forever'.

The heroine turns out to be stronger than the hero here but I wouldn't see this as a negative mark on Grayson. He's got a pretty tortured past and perfectly understandable when he gets a bit of a brain freeze after being slapped with the events as they unfold. It is Paige who, despite knowing him for only three days, is able to get him centered and back in form.

The last quarter of the book sped up and was unputdownable even if the villain/villains aren't exactly hard to figure out. As with most murder mysteries, the fun for me is in how the good guys catch the bad guys rather than whodunit so it doesn't bother me when the perps are obvious.

Despite enjoying NOLtT, I can't give it 5 stars because I always feel heeavy and oppressed reading one of these books. I did give You Can't Hide and

5 stars but if I were to read the latter again, I doubt if I would still give it a 5. I can only take KR in small doses - six months apart at least and definitely running off after each book to something fluffy to dispel the heaviness that's ever-present throughout the book.(less)

Karen Rose has been one of my auto-buy author’s since the first time I picked up and read my first book by her.

I always feel like I’m trying to solve a puzzle while engaged in one of her stories. A corner piece here, an edge there and finally a piece of that pesky blue sky. No One Left to Tell was like a 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle and it packs a whopping 518 pages. That’s a lot of story with action, twists and turns, secrets and a sweet and budding romance.

Wonderful read Ms. Rose! Now as many books as you have put out, they always feel fresh and new. I am kicking myself for not reading this book sooner, because the sparks between Paige and Grayson was off the charts. You will absolutely love this book if you like long, complicated stories with an endless cast of characters and a barely there romance arc between characters who have the hots for each other, though you can't quite figure out why. The back-of-the-cover blurb was compelling, but ultimately I didn't find the premise all that interesting, but I was never annoyed enough to put the book down for good, just not drawn into it. Because I read it in a desultory fashion over a couple of weeks (while whining "How much farther? Are we there yet?") I lost track and interest in the scores of characters: her friends, his extended family, his cop/attorney buddies, the many bad guys and their families, etc. If I had read faster, it would not have been such a chore. Karen actually is amazing with handling so many characters; in the hands of a less competent writer it would have been impossible to read without a chart of character relationships.

The conflict between the hero and heroine is very clearly explained, but it doesn't serve to drive the plot, so the romantic element seems more of a dutiful add-on.

The biggest problem I had with the book was the stilted dialogue and narrative. It sounded as though someone had written it in careful, precise English, with syntax that most people do not use in actual speech. I found myself revising the text in my mind as I was reading.

So here are some examples:
"I'd be more worried about a murder charge, were I you," Grayson said. (p. 251).
"That's between my office and Rex. Of course, should he choose to share it with you, that's his business" (Grayson again, p. 253).
Narrative in heroine's point-of-view: "Someone was safe who otherwise wouldn't be. That was what she needed to hold on to when the mocking voice intruded. The faces of the victims she had kept safe were what she needed to remember when she woke from the nightmare" (p. 5)

Then there's a little (unintentional?) sub-theme of identity that goes on too long:
"Silas had admired her more than once. Of course he wasn't that kind of man, even if she'd been that kind of woman" (p. 285).
Three paragraphs later: "That's the kind of man the prosecutor was" (p. 285).
"No. That's not who she was. Is. He'd tried to hurt me, but my.... She could have called the cops, but...." (p. 313).
"What mattered was the man you'd become" (p. 315).

Oh, one other nit: My favorite character was Peabody, the rottweiler guard dog, but alas all he does is growl and, toward the end, bite. (And why isn't the heroine quicker to teach him who to treat as a "friend"?) The hero rents a suite of rooms in the Peabody Hotel. Now, that just seems sloppy. To be fair, that's the only time I noticed sloppy names; most of the time the characters and places are given unique names that are easily distinguishable from each other.

So, again, I want to make it very clear that this is a competently written book, and I'm sure there are readers who will love it. It just didn't engage me. (less)

No One Left To Tell starts as it means to go on when we see Paige Holden make her way to a pro bono clients house. The story starts with a bang as Paige witnesses Elena Munoz gunned down and while Paige is trying to save her, Elena whispers in her ear and sets off the chain reaction that will turn her life upside down.

Paige as a character is very easy to like, a lady that has her own past and is trying to make a fresh start in a new city. When Elena Munoz dies, Paige is determined to get to the bottom of the secrets she was holding. We also meet Grayson Smith, who also has his own secrets but has made a success of himself as an attorney.

Paige meets Grayson and together they try to piece together the evidence they have and set about finding the killer for numerous murders. This book, even by Karen Rose standards was quite a long one but this one seemed more intricate in detail. The storyline keeps expanding with new possibilities and leads at every corner.

At just over the halfway mark I couldn't put it down, and although it got more and more complicated and dangerous I just had to keep reading. The list of crimes that they uncover, seem get longer by the hour with murder, corruption and suicides to name a few.

As usual we also get to meet a whole host of other characters such as Grayson's family along with some familiar faces. One of the things I love about Karen Rose books is that I have read them all so the feature of some characters is an added bonus for me. We get to see Detective Stevie Mazzetti, Investigator Clay Maynard and Dr Lucy Trask who all feature in other books.

The pace is kept up from start to finish and although the book is lengthy it kept my interest from the first page to the very last. This book is a fine example of Karen Rose's brilliant writing. Once again, I will have to wait impatiently for the next instalment. (less)

Ok, I'm a loyal fan of K.Rose - having read all her books. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy them, but there is a part of me that hopes that her main characters don't always need to have a deep dark secret from their past. That she can lay off a little with the jaw clenching, fisted hands, banked fury etc. We get it, these are decent folk who despite traumatic backgrounds, pull through to stop crazed killers who rack up a body count that usually goes into double digits. It was seminal television series Law & Order that put in her mind the idea of writing about the interactions between attorneys and police. She has always pictured her own Lenny Briscoe and Jack McCoy on the pages of her books.
So in a previous novel, You Belong to Me, Rose deals with the cop aspect of the Law & Order theme. No One Left to Tell turns to the story of district attorney Grayson Smith.
Add to that the theme of high-level corruption in the justice system, and the scene is set for a gripping read.
A man has spent five years in prison for a crime which, it is becoming increasingly clear, he did not commit.
Grayson, haunted by his own demons and a determination to put the bad guys behind bars, is responsible for Ramon Munoz's conviction. All signs point to the fact that the Baltimore police have been complicit in framing him to take the fall.
Grayson is riddled with guilt that his own past has coloured his judgment, and |is determined to get to the |bottom of the mystery - if he can speak to someone who knows the truth before he |or she is killed.
True to Rose's style, this novel is not just hard-edged police drama. She believes her novels are set apart from other crime thrillers because of the element of romance she adds.
In No One Left to Tell, enter the beautiful martial arts pro and PI-in-training, Paige. She, too, has a past she is trying to overcome. She has moved to a new city, started a new job but still only feels safe with her Rottweiler, Peabody. As Paige and Grayson race against the clock to solve the mystery, so too do they realise their strong attraction to each other. And the human, emotional tension adds to the overall thrill.
For Karen Rose fans, Paige will be a familiar character. She featured in a relatively minor role in a previous novel Silent Scream.
It is a Rose hallmark thatinstead of a recurring central protagonist pulling her 13 novels together, this author employs an interesting tool whereby previous smaller characters are revisited and given primary roles in subsequent novels.
All Rose's novels are linked through specific characters. It's always lots of fun picking up the next Rose masterpiece to find out which character she has decided to feature. And you don't even have to start with the first novel, although it's advisable to do so, to get into the storylines and plots.
Rose has indicated that her next novel will feature one of my favourite characters from No One Left to Tell - a wonderfully mysterious and colourful female protagonist. I can't wait for it to be released. (less)

Holy Karen Rose! I read my first Rose book last year when the first in the new Baltimore series – You Belong to Me – and the only thing I remember is being blown away. Well, let me say that Rose blew me away once again!

Paige has run away from the nightmares and overbearing friends in MN to work as a Baltimore PI. When she takes a case pro-bono, she never expected it would turn into a murdered client and shady figureheads across the city. As she works to uncover the secrets left to her by her client who dies in her arms, Paige is thrown in way over her head.

Grayson is a dedicated attorney who has never doubted his skill in the courtroom. When he finds out that he may have been an unwilling pawn in a setup, he will partner with Paige to get the truth, whatever the costs. As he and Paige fight to stay alive day in and day out, they uncover dirty cops, district attorneys, politicians and a scandal decades in the making. But the closer they get to the truth, the hotter the water they are in. Will they be able to unravel the mystery, while keeping each other alive?

I have to admit, reading Rose takes a lot of concentration and brain power. There is so much going on, so many subplots, and an endless number of twists and turns. As soon as I was done reading, I had to go and veg out, because my brain hurt from trying to process all the information, read into every word said, and try to figure out the mystery along with Paige and Grayson.

The mystery and suspense aspects of the book were AMAZING. I can’t even say enough good things about how incredible Rose is as a storyteller. The whodunit aspect kept weaving this way and that and just when I thought I knew exactly who the murder was, Rose would throw in another tidbit and I would be sent back to square one, scratching my head. I loved following Paige and Grayson as they uncovered clues, but also being able to get a look at the other players was a fun bit as well.

So many times when an author excels at the mystery or suspense portion of the book, it seems as if the other aspects don’t stand out as well. But with Rose, the romance was just as vital to the book, and just as well done as everything else. I loved and adored both Paige and Grayson. They had their own flaws and idiosyncrasies, yet they were both fiercely devoted to their work, and finding the truth in everything they did. I believed in them both and when they came together – rather explosively, I might add – I believed in them together. I cheered them on, prayed for them to be together, and hoped they would open enough to each other to let them heal one another.

I am so anxious to see where Rose goes next with the series. There were so many exceptional supporting characters that I can’t wait to find out more about. Especially Daphne, Grayson’s loyal and snarky co-worker as well as the rest of the Carter clan (Grayson’s adoptive family). When I read that the next book would be about Daphne and Grayson’s brother, the stoic FBI agent, I already started counting down the days until November 8th.

All in all I was once again floored by Rose’s writing and storytelling. The characters were flawed, but written flawlessly. The story was gritty and violent at times, but also told an incredible story that took us on a wild ride. I will absolutely be making my way through the Rose backlist (although it’ll be slowly, as she breaks my brain with the awesomeness that is her writing). Romantic suspense and mystery fans alike should all check out this book.

I cannot begin to express how much I adored this book. Rose is one of my auto-buy authors, so it's no surprise that I'd enjoy this book, but I was blown away by it. Paige (the heroine) tries to solve all the puzzles with the help of Grayson - who actually put the man behind bars years ago - and of course there is a love interest. I remember that I really enjoyed the girl’s relationship in that book so I was looking forward to meet Paige again.

No One Left To Tell is an action filled, fast paced, story. Not only are there many new characters introduced as there seems to be several stories being developed. There's plenty of background info and while I think this stands alone quite nicely it is probably better if you get to it after having read Rose's other books first.

I did like Paige and Grayson. Like in the previous story I thought they feel the hots for each other a bit too soon but considering the type of action we have here there certainly isn't time to slowly develop a relationship (I do wonder if Rose is slowly developing Maynard's in the background). Even so, I did like how they deal with the feelings they have and how Paige is determined not to fall blindly into something that might hurt in the long run.

While I find the romantic element one of attractions of Rose's books I have to say that I was really curious about how she was going to connect all the dots in this story. Readers of the genre know, and expect, that that is what happens at the end but with so many seemingly loose ends in this story I was curious to see how she was going to make it work.

I did like the new secondary characters we got to meet here. She usually introduces characters in one book that became main character is another but I wish she would go ahead with Maynard’s story. Alas, I have already found out that, once again, the next book is not about him...

By now I have read all of Rose's books except the short story in the Hot Pursuit anthology. Any one read it and recommends it?

I've been a fan of Karen Rose novels for about five years, but the last couple books I've read (You Belong to Me and Silent Scream) haven't been home runs for me. That is not the case with No One Left To Tell.

No One Left to Tell is the story of Paige Holden and Grayson Smith. A year earlier, Paige was attacked along with her friend, Thea by Thea's ex husband, resulting in Thea's death. Because the assailants escaped, they returned to Paige's home and shot her. Picking herself up, Paige decided t...more I've been a fan of Karen Rose novels for about five years, but the last couple books I've read (You Belong to Me and Silent Scream) haven't been home runs for me. That is not the case with No One Left To Tell.

No One Left to Tell is the story of Paige Holden and Grayson Smith. A year earlier, Paige was attacked along with her friend, Thea by Thea's ex husband, resulting in Thea's death. Because the assailants escaped, they returned to Paige's home and shot her. Picking herself up, Paige decided to move to Baltimore to work with PI Clay Maynard. After finishing up a case for Clay, Paige is almost hit by a minivan that crashed into a pole right in front of her. The driver of the car was one of her client's, Elena Munoz, whose husband was serving time in prison for a murder he did not commit. Before dying, Elena hands Paige a flash drive with proof that her husband was framed and tells her that a cop had been the one chasing her.
Now, Paige has a dilemma on her hands: give the evidence to the police and risk it being covered up or keep things to herself, so she could investigate. She decides to talk to the man, who prosecuted Ramon Munoz's case, ASA Grayson Smith. When Paige approaches Grayson someone attempts to kill her, causing Grayson to fend off her attacker. This puts them on a collision course with a bunch of dirty cops, lawyers, and a political family with secrets to hide.

What I liked about No One Left to Tell (and what was missing from the last couple of books) was the romance. In You Belong to Me, especially, it felt more like action with sex thrown in the mix, and at points I felt like I was reading torture porn instead of a romance novel (I mean, who wants to have angry sex up against the brick wall of a night club? J.D. typified the angry-boner man archetype of old school romance novels). As I said, this was not the case with No One Left to Tell. It is obvious, almost immediately that there is something between Grayson and Paige, despite the fact that he doesn't want there to be (and the fact that they'd only known each other for a few days) because of the secret that he was afraid would get out if he let himself have a relationship.

I also liked that Ms. Rose kept the suspense up throughout the novel. We knew that Ramon hadn't killed Crystal Jones, but the question was who did. A lot of times, authors would have told us exactly who the killer was and we'd have spent the entire novel trying to pin them down. Ms. Rose didn't do that. She offered us someone who may have done it and then kept throwing more and more possibilities at us. There were times when I felt like I knew who the puppet master was, but then we'd get more information and I would wonder.

However, there was one thing that I didn't like, which was the repeated linking of the crime to the Clinton Hearings and his affair with Monica Lewinski. I was the same age Crystal would have been in 1998, and I don't think that if I had been brutally raped that I would have thought to keep my blue party dress just because that is what Monica Lewinski did.

Overall, however, I really enjoyed No One Left to Tell, and I look forward to reading more books in the series.(less)

Once again a great romantic suspense novel by Karen Rose. This is a long book (as many of her books are) and at first all the names are a bit confusing. But after a couple of pages I was absolutely into the story and couldn´t stop reading.

More thorough review to come on my blog, but here I'll say that Rose has written another wild thriller, and like her last book, she added the romance back into it.

There was a little less gore in this one, though just as much murder and mayhem. Rose handles the procedural effectively and efficiently. The romance felt real, albeit incredibly fast. The heroine is a secondary character from a previous Rose novel, but this can be read as a standalone.

Karen Rose hat es auch in diesem Thriller wieder geschafft, Spannung und Romantik zu verbinden. Es ist also nicht nur der actionreiche Fall, der den Leser fesselt, sondern auch das Hin und Her zwischen Paige Holden und Grayson Smith. Zumindest was deren Beziehung angeht, ist der Ausgang der Geschichte vorhersehbar.
Der Fall selbst, mit seinen Hintergründen und Geschehnissen, ist eher weniger zu durchschauen.
Oft lockte mich die Autorin auf die falsche Fährte und leider zog sich der Fall auch immer wieder mal. Gerade die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Grayson und Paige nahm extrem viel Raum ein.
Natürlich gab es auch wieder diverse erotische Anspielung und ich muss leider anmerken, dass es in meinen Augen eine gewisse Szene gab, die mir zu viel des Guten war. Sie wirkte extrem übertrieben und unglaubwürdig auf mich. Ich fand sie eher amüsant als authentisch und nahm sie als gelungene Unterhaltung hin.
Der Schreibstil selbst ist wieder recht leicht und ermöglicht einen raschen Lesefluss.
Es gab mehrere Perspektiven, immer aus der Sicht der betreffenden Person.
Die Figuren fand ich wieder sehr gut dargestellt. Beide Protagonisten waren mir sehr sympathisch und auch einige andere Figuren erfreuten mein Leserherz. Besonders gut gefällt mir bei Karen Rose immer, dass man oft auf Personen auf vorherigen Bänden trifft.
Fazit:
Wieder ein durchaus lesenswerter Thriller, jedoch muss man sich darauf gefasst machen, dass er sich ab und an in die Länge zieht und sich diverser Klischees bedient.
Manchmal ist weniger oft mehr und ich denke etwas weniger Geplänkel und er wäre vielleicht perfekt gewesen.

I'm a long time fan of romantic thrillers and Karen Rose is one of the best. This was a long book (most of hers are) and I will admit that I inexplicably had trouble getting into it. Paige Holden is our heroine in this book although in my opinion there are a few. Paige moves to Baltimore and is working for Clay Maynard. She's a beginner PI who is trying to prove the innocence of Ramon Munoz, a convicted murderer. ASA Grayson Smith is thorough and the one who was instrumental in putting Ramon behind bars. Ramon's wife and mother approached Paige for help as they are adamant that Ramon is innocent. Paige agrees to help, in between her other cases, providing that Elena, Ramon's wife, can prove it. Elena manages to obtain said proof with dire consequences. A roller coaster of events (and believe me there are so many) is set in motion leaving you feeling dizzy, in a good suspenseful and thrilling way.

Paige needs someone she can trust and who better than Grayson Smith, the very man who had a hand in taking away Ramon's life. She sets out to see if he can be trusted - she needs to see him up close or as close as possible. Paige will know; eyes don't lie. Grayson notices her in the crowd, staring at him. He'd previously seen her on TV when Paige made the news after being caught on camera, trying to help a woman who'd been shot. Paige has the proof she asked for and now knows that firstly, Ramon is not the murderer and secondly, that the murderer/s are still out there and will stop at nothing to keep the truth from coming out. Grayson and Paige now find themselves on the receiving end of probable death, yet they continue to push forward. They will chew this case up, find the culprit/s, and eat them for dinner, no matter what.

I'm not sure if I can put into words how intricate and involved this book really is. The plot is extremely well thought out. Just when you think it can't possibly get any worse, it does. Just when you think that no one else can die, they do. And, just when you think that someone you trusted couldn't possibly be involved in most of these murders, they are.

At the forefront in this book is an important family, the McClouds. The story ultimately revolves around and involves them all, in some way or another. The abuse and rape of young girls sixteen years prior is the twist in this story but that's how far I will elude to what you can expect. It was hectic, it was crazy but it was so good. I have knots in my neck and shoulders from all the angst! Having gone back and forth trying to decide who the ultimate villain was, I was elated that I missed time and again. That's how much Karen Rose threw me for a loop. That's the way it should be.

I loved both Paige and Grayson including their tenacity. Both with skeletons in their past and some work needed to overcome them. Overcoming them wasn't as hard as they thought because what others may think of them doesn't really matter. It's who you are and what you stand for but ultimately, what you are willing to do. There are so many characters in this book that you can't help but like, a lot. Grayson's 'two' mothers, his brother, Joseph, and sisters although not blood related. I guess that's for you to read about. I have said this before, but don't mind repeating myself; I love reading about previous characters and their involvement in the current book. They start to become family and this allows me to reflect on what has previously transpired. Back with me were Olivia, Thomas Thorne, Lucy Trask, Clay Maynard and Stevie Mazetti. I know we will be reading more regarding these characters and their lives in forthcoming editions. Something to look forward to for sure.

I was kept on my toes throughout the book along with more of my famous nail biting. What can I say? Nothing less than - it was brilliant. Karen Rose is one of my top romantic suspense authors and no matter what anyone else says, she does not disappoint. I cannot wait to meet her next Wednesday so that I can tell her exactly that, unless I revert back to my shyness. It's a high probability. Am super excited though and count myself to be extremely lucky. I'm in S.A. How many NYT top 10 best selling authors do I ever get to meet? None, that's how many. Wish me luck. ;)(less)

Very suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Part time investigator, Paige is helping out a woman named Elana who is trying to free her husband from jail for a crime that he didn't commit. This was more like 3.5 stars for me but I will round up. There were a couple parts that dragged for me. At 518 pages I felt like 100 pages could have been trimmed from the book without any impact to the story but I know many of her books are like that. I also didn't find Paige and Grayson's instant connection all that believable. That being said, Karen Rose is an excellent writer with a knack for detail. Grayson is the prosecutor that sent this men to jail, after being provided with what he thought was undeniable proof this man was guilty. This new evidence also helped find that he had been used by one of his own. Paige has decided to approach him after observing him and realize that he is the only person to trust with this new evidence to try to reopen the case. The meeting has rattle some cages of very powerful people and brought Grayson and Paige to the forefront as the next targets for elimination to tie some loose ends. Saving each others life after several attempts to kill them, has them going into hiding. They recoup and plan how to use the information they obtained to bring down these powerful opponents with only a few of the people that can be trusted. They need to be able to proof the innocence of the client's husband and also to find the actual killer of the assassinated girl, only to discover the whole things is a lot bigger than they could have imagined and dates back a lot of years.

Being forced to stay together for protection opens feelings and wounds, that were kept secret for a long time to save loved ones, and creates obstacles in their relation. Complete trust is the only thing that can save them physically and spiritually and keep others involved alive.

The whole story expands over a period of five days of very exciting and climatic events with non-stop action and the constant developing of new twists and turns, secrets and surprises that come to a very satisfying ending. You will get a full dose of romance accompanied by thrilling mystery superbly written which you will not be able to put down until done.

As with all Karen Rose novels, the plot flowed well and we're kept guessing until the very end, with a number of twists and sub-characters. However, I repeatedly skipped through large sections of the story that focussed on the love story between the two central characters. I just didn't feel like it was very convincing.
