In Dying Wish, Butcher give her series formula another twist, her leading man immortal Theoroni warrior Iain isn't just close to losing his soul, he's already crossed that line and his leading lady, Jackie, who is free from being used as a blood slave and breeder for the Theroni's demonic enemy is unusual as well in that she is a potential match to every one of the warriors - though she wants nothing of their world and intends to return to her old life and just can't accept that her old life is...more

Definetely the best book yet in the series! As usual it answered questions from previous books, brought together a wonderful and extremely funny couple (which I was not expecting from their personalities so far) and left even more questions for the next book!

To me that is the mark of a good series - if this book answers questions from the previous book and leaves you wanting/needing to read the next one because of unanswered questions and an interest in the characters then the author has done hi...more

Jackie Patton has decided she is ready to go back to her life now that she is healing from her years of being a demon captive. Jackie's decided she doesn't want to be part of the Theronai world or their war. More conversation with Helen & Joseph convinces Jackie that she needs to choose a warrior to save, Jackie selects Iain. Jackie chose Iain because she thought he was no more interested in her than she was in him, but the truth is that Iain is hiding a barren tree. Barren...more

First let me just start by saying that The Sentinel Wars Series kicks serious ass and if you haven't started reading the series- why the hell not *shakes her head while giving you a strange pissed off-look*. Oh- but if you haven't read the series yet, don't start with this one! We're already a good couple of books in and you will genuinely confused, although still delightfully entertained. Okay on to what I loved about this book:

I have got to admit, I didn't immediately like our heroine, Jackie....more

Dying Wish is the sixth book in Shannon Butcher’s Sentinel Wars series. Before I do my review, in case you don’t what the Sentinels are, here is brief description direct from Butcher’s site.
They are the Sentinels. Three races descended from ancient guardians of mankind, each possessing unique abilities in their battle to protect humanity against their eternal foes -- the Synestryn. Now, a beautiful but damaged Sentinel may be a warrior’s last hope...
Jackie Patton is the heroine in Dying Wish. Ja...more

I presume you know what the book is about, I'm letting you know what I like or dislike about it.

Wow. Every once in awhile you come across a book with a twist you just simply didn't see coming. And this is one of them! I am really excited by this read and I bet you'll enjoy it too.

About mid-way through this book I worried... because I know Ms. Butcher is a "newer" author... would she choose to write a book without a HEA... Just because she could?... Because she wanted to do something "different"?...more

3 1/2 stars for me. Iain is a Theroni living a complete lie and if the truth is ever revealed, his life will be forfeit. His soul is gone and the only leaves on his life tree are the inked kind. So far though his monster is under control, but he knows he doesn't have long. He ended up rescuing Jackie at the end of the last book. She had been prisoner of the Synestryns for two years, being tortured by the demons.

Now she wants to escape again, but from herescuersrs. These men need too much and sh...more

So good, it gets better and better. Even though it seemed so hopeless that each book only 1 warrior got his HEA out of hundreds, yet each book exposed a renewed hope, a deeper intricate plot, another amazing gift, but at the same time, a new challenge... another word, just when I thought same old, same old... I got another WOW factor!

OK, let's get down to business. Yes, I was a bit annoyed by Jackie's stubbornness, selfishness and headstrong, BUT I got over them quickly bc it was all of t...more
Angie ~aka Reading Machine~
Iain could feel his lifemark is bare and he's soulless. He feels nothing and has a monster trapped inside of him. Jackie having been rescued feels trapped because of her own fear and helplessness. Everyone tells Jackie that she needs to pick a Theronai male to bound with but Jackie wants nothing to do with any Theronai male except Iain. Iain does expect her to save him like the others do. Torr is so desperate to save Grace from what she's done. Hope tells Logan that she has an idea how to save G...more

Oh boy was Jackie annoying. A giant pain in the ass. She whines and whines and whines that she wants to go back to her "real" life as a corporate nobody, rather than live and work with the Theronai as a badass. She is constantly characterized as someone who would never turn her back on someone in need, if she could help them, but she spends the whole book avoiding her responsibility and refusing to use her abilities TO HELP PEOPLE. It's infuriating the way she tries to avoid making commitments a...more

Thank you for another great story!! I was concerned at first. Iain has been one of my favorite characters. There is just something about a soulless man in need of saving that appeals to me. One of the things I love about this series is that Butcher has created a world with recurring characters. Jackie was first introduced in Finding the Lost but we didn't hear her voice until the last book. I found her annoying then and she continued to be so at the beginning of this story. I was a bit upset tha...more

NO SPOILERS

The Sentinel Wars series is my favorite of Ms Butcher's works. Dying Wish delivers on the promises made in her previous offerings in the world of the Theronai, Sanguinar and the evil Synestryn.

If you have not yet entered the spellbinding, sizzlingly sexy realm of this series, this reader highly recommends you take the plunge.

Thank you Shannon K. Butcher for another can't put it down adventure!

This book is the one that kept me from reading the Sentinel Wars series for a long time. All because of the cover art... Yes, I was judging a book by its cover. Even though this book was released first and was the more popular series, the similarity in this cover to a favorite book from another series gave me a chip on my shoulder about this series and I didn't break down to read it until recently. Lesson learned! :) Don't let a duplicate cover stop me from reading a great series!

Fast paced with lots of action. Once again Butcher has done a great job balancing the main plot, with multiple subplots, and tying them together in the end. Jackie and Iain were great. I loved how they got their HEA. It was so unexpected and different. I couldn’t guess whose story is next. Is it Torr, Cain, Ronan? Who knows. All I know is that I can’t wait :)

I really enjoy this series, but the leading lady in this book was annoying, distractingly so. She clearly suffered and was mourning her life before the trama. However, she was written to be a smart capable woman who was able to survive horrible atrocities. This could have produced a hardened woman trying to bring the scraps of her life back together in a new reality. That journey would have been interesting to read about. However, we were reading about a self-absorbed, whiny and selfish woman, w...more

I feel like I'm in the minority with every book in this series so far. Jackie did not annoy me as much as I thought she would like a lot of readers. Her fears and hesitation were totally justified. A lot of reviews label her as selfish and hard headed. Well yeah, I would be too when trapped inside a cave with nasty human-eating monsters for 2 years straight. I felt the Theronai's, Joseph in particular were being too narrow-minded, unrealistic, hard-headed and unreasonable with her. The...more

I was dying (no pun intended) for this book to come out, and now that I've finally got a chance to read it, I'm conflicted and feeling a little unsatisfied.

On one hand, Dying Wish was packed, and I do mean packed, with action. Tons of things going on left and right, so I never once felt like the plot was dragging; frankly, there's no time for that with all that Butcher fit into this book! I love it when action moves, but honestly, at the midway point, I felt like there was maybe one plot twist t...more

“Dying Wish” is part of Shannon K. Butcher’s ‘The Sentinel Wars’ series. Iain is one of the Theronai but is set apart from his brethren by the knowledge that it is possible to have lost all of the leaves on one’s lifemark tree and yet still live Soulless. Jackie Patton seeks to flee the sanctuary that is full of desperate lonely Theronai, a human named Grace who has offered the ultimate sacrifice to save the life of the Theronai named Torr but whose death could destroy him, and her sister Helen...more

Dying Wish by Shannon K. Butcher
Paranormal Romance –March 6th, 2012
4 ½ stars

In Dying Wish, Shannon Butcher continues her mesmerizing Sentinel Wars with the traumatized Jackie Patton.

Jackie has been tortured for her blood. Taken from her human life as a successful business woman and used to feed the evil Synestryn due to her special blood, she only wants to survive and take back control of her life. However, her blood does make her special because the few that have it can feed a starving race an...more

Murdoc's book is still my favorite but I think this one is pretty great too. I understand what the fuss was about with Jackie now. Yes she selfish but I felt so bad for her that it was kinda like she deserved to be that way at least a little. Think about having your life ripped away from you for two years. Two years of fear and pain.Of course she would want her life back, of course she wouldn't want to paired with a stranger. My goodness she would want freedom and reclaim some form of control ov...more

If you've gotten this far you already have a pretty good idea as to who are the Theronai Sentinel warriors. You also know that the Theronai men are dying and Theronai women are rare. You also know about the Sanguinar, vampire like people who hate to be called vampires but have all their traits, who are in alliance with the Theronai and serve as their healers in exchange of protection.

The main protagonists in this installment are Jackie and Iain Terra ( LOVE HIS LAST NAME!). Iain rescued Jackie f...more

As I prepared to write this it occurred to me that much of my review for Butcher’s previous full length novel in this series hold true: My bottom line is that I liked this book a great deal, just as I have enjoyed all of the previous installments, but it is a series novel that needs the context of the previous stories. Read this novel only if you have already read the earlier books—there are too many subplots to wade through if you don’t already know some of what has already taken place. As with...more

Iain is a Theronai warrior with no soul.
Jackie is a woman who just wants her old life back.
Match made in heaven?
Of course!

Iain is a warrior who lost his soul long ago. He's managed to convince everyone that he is fine and in no danger of becoming a monster. He is living by his own honor code to keep himself in check, all the while trying to help his brothers who are closest to losing themselves. On the surface, he is cold and heartless. Deep within, he is rav...more

Synopsis:

Jackie Patton has been rescued by the Theronai from her captivity and torture at the hands of the Synestryn, only to learn that she's a potential match for the Theronai warriors who need a woman to literally save their lives.

Forced to choose, she unexpectedly selects Iain, a cold-hearted warrior who doesn't want to be saved. Iain is convinced that it's too late-that his soul is already as dead as his former betrothed, killed by the Synestryn. Still, he is the only one she wants. But is...more

Shannon Butcher is a GENIUS!!! This series just keeps getting better and better. The way Butcher layers and weaves the stories together is so clever and amazing just blows my mind. I'm seriously having trouble picking my favorite warrior/couple. There is so much suspence and action when I put my book down last night I had dreams about it. LOL

So Iain and Jackie are getting together YAY!!! I have one thing to say about Jackie, she is one fierce, monster-butt kicking chic!! She does just about anyt...more

That was EXCELLENT!!

Shannon K Butcher has done it again and delivered a brilliant story, absolutely LOVED IT!!!!

The characters are well rounded with a little dark and a little light. Jackie was tortured and fed on for years by the Synestryn but she stills comes out as a strong and take no shit kinda gal Awesome She also has the uncanny ability to control Iains power unlike that of her sisters and the other women she seems to know what she needs to do with the magic, I found this very refreshing....more

Butcher never ceases to amaze me. Her books are not solely written around a main couple. We get updated on other characters, new ones appear, and we get more pieces to the puzzle that Butcher is putting together. I love that, it's never boring, its not about just one couple at a time, its about this series as a whole, with each couple just being another piece to snap into place. So many things are developing, and Jackie has thrown everything they have known into a tale spin. She is so...more

4.5*s. Jackie is a compatible mate with all Theronai warriors, but all she wants to do is get back to the life she used to live now that she's free from the demons that had held her captive. She's forced to choose a warrior, however, and she chooses Iain because she thinks she'll be able to leave him behind. Iain, first of all, refuses to let her go. Secondly, he is the last warrior she should have chosen because his soul is dead. His time is running out but he's growing on Jackie...
