Fairly good. I can't agree that everyone has yellow undertones. A lot of people, whether pale or dark, are cool-toned and have pink undertones. Most of the book is still quite useful and I'll probably refer to it in the future.

I bought this book because I have recently been trying to master my own makeup looks.

This is the book for you if you are looking to know more about products and how they work on your face/body.

Lots of other reference books are divided by feature: large eyes, fair skin, brunette, slender mouth, etc. This is all well and good but for me I would only read that parts that apply to me and, therefore, much of the book is left untouched. This book is divided by product: moisturizers, eyeliner, lip colo

This book would be ideal for someone who has never worn makeup and desires to be a professional makeup artist. I found the tips redundant if her earlier books, and even some that were contrary to more modern wisdom (ex: Bobbi says to put on concealer then foundation, whereas everyone nowadays says to do the reverse so you don't end up wiping off the concealer...maybe not a big deal but she just sounded a little outdated). The first half of the book was redundant of every beauty article I've ever ...more

Perfect for : Personal Use, Great gift for a girl getting into makeup (promotes positive self image), Professionals in beauty/makeup field

In a nutshell: I was amazed at the amount of information and detail contained in this book! I was never really taught about makeup, so this has provided me with a lot of practical and technical information that I wasn't previously aware of. From basic beauty equipment and the basics of skin care to the business of makeup and professional artistry, this book ha
This is a good basic manual for people who have basic make-up and skin care knowledge. It’s very easy to read and is filled with skin care and make-up tips (with pictures) that are very easy to understand and follow. This is your one stop manual for make-up tool & skin care shopping, to know which brush to use for what part of the face, to know which ingredients to look for in skin care products, to know which formulation of skin care or make-up to use for your skin type. I learned quite a b ...more

This book is a MUST for all women out there. This is a compilation of the make-up guru, Bobbi Brown for over 25 years of experience in make-up and skin care. From skin types, moisturizers, primers, and lipsticks, this is basically a haven for all girls! There are tips and tricks on how to apply make-up and how to create a certain look. I am amazed that Asian skin is also featured in here! Not all make-up books have tutorials specifically on Asian skin, so this one is a sure plus for me. The pict ...more

A superb, original and innovative manual filled with many facts, tips, guides and information on everything from beauty to skincare to makeup looks. I love how Brown covers many types of skin tones and uses that as a basis for lots of different products (like foundation and cleansers, for example). It's great to have as a manual to consult for insight on everything I am interested in to things I didn't even know (and should), but now do thanks to this excellent guide from Bobbi Brown. I wear very little makeup and now that I've discovered the magic of BB cream, it might be a while before I incorporate more complicated techniques into my routine. Bobbi's tutorial on eyeliner application was a godsend, though, and the photography is beautiful. I will also reference the sections on skin type-appropriate cleansers and moisturizers the next time I need to replenish my stock.

This is a really basic book. So possibly 3 stars is a little generous. If you are a beginner and you love book format then it would be worth it to buy, but who falls into this category? Youtube make-up gurus have totally killed this sort of book. A book can summarize the basics efficiently, as this does, but for explaining things video format cannot be beaten.

The structure of the book is logical & I definitely walked away from it having learned some new things ex: bronzer contour powder look

LOVED THIS BOOK. I wanted more things in the Professional category because that's why I bought this book, not for the begging part although I enjoyed that too and there were a couple of tips and tricks I didn't know there.
I really liked the LIFESTYLE section and it's so amazing that there's at least one beauty book that has this.
One of my students gave me this book, which was very sweet. I teach a theatre makeup class and she thought it might be a nice addition to my library of makeup books. It is. I would recommend this book to anyone who is new to beauty makeup, hasn't read many fashion magazines and/or is unclear about how closely connected healthy diet/lifestyle/sunscreen is for skin in the long run. As far as a "how-to" guide, it's not that detailed & some of the info is a bit outdated. Most modern beauty techn ...more

I bought this book two days ago and I have nearly finished it. i couldnt put it down.

Totally absorbed in the book and have learnt so much. I love it.

I am a lady of 61 and have been looking for an artistic look for my make up. I am loving trying different colours and textures and feel I am finally finding my own style.

I love make up and going round the shops, infact it is difficult not to buy things and get carried away.

I was a little disappointed in this as it was not what I expected, but please don't ask me what I expected. Mind you I am not a professional, I am just someone that lives makeup. There was some good basic info but I feel like a lot of it was stuff I have picked up along the way. She is also very adamant about the order of putting on makeup and I did not agree with it, as it can be better to do eyes first then face to better account for fall out. Not something I feel the need to ever reread again ...more

I’ve increasingly become interested in makeup. In high school, I was more of a tomboy. Really insecure with my body image, I was more about hiding myself than enhancing myself. But after starting to workout several years ago and finally getting to a weight that I was happy and content with, I finally found a love for myself, my body, and enjoyed dressing myself up clothing wise and makeup. My aunt taught me how to apply my makeup at the age of thirteen—when my parents finally allowed me to start

Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual contains Bobbi Brown’s 25-plus years of being a makeup artist. It has over two hundred full colour photographs and step by step instructions including a ten step guide to perfect makeup that shows you how to apply your makeup within ten minutes.

So this is one of the first books that anyone interested in the world of beauty should consider. The sequence of the book definitely is good for beginners because of the image heavy step by step guides that are given for the book. I would not recommend this to advanced Makeup artists or those who know what they are doing with their makeup because it is mainly about the basics and where to begin. The two sections of the book are divided into the Basics and Artistry. The basics have great tips for ...more

If you've read Bobbi's earlier books, there's not a lot new in this one, unless you are looking for the second half of the book, which has tips on how to break into the pro makeup business. If you only want to buy/read one BB book, I'd say either get this one or Beauty, and I lean toward Beauty just because I've had it longer. I'm glad I got this from the library, so it didn't put a dent in my wallet or bookshelf space, since I already have three BB books.

I have mixed feelings about this book: I think it's great for beginners, as it's full of tips and tricks, but at the same time if you want to go pro nearly a third of the book it's dedicated to how to break into the business. The problem is that if you're not interested at all into becoming a make-up artist you'll find a lot of useless information about different skin types, eye types, etc...and if you want to go pro the book isn't exhaustive at all! For instance It doesn't cover face shapes, no ...more

Just ok

I thought this book would give me step by step instructions on how to apply makeup. It fell flat. It gives general instructions. If u are a beginner, don't waste your money. It doesn't show how to blend, how to apply powder or cream, it just doesn't. This book is more for ppl who are Bobbi Brown fans. Not for women who are looking for guidance or techniques.

Makeup Manual is a really user friendly and easy to understand. It is also a very detailed manual which gives hint and tips about beautifying yourself and others. With a focus on the makeup artist’s side of things, this book also has a lot of great tips for those of us at home who are just looking for useful, everyday instruction
Didnt finish the artistry part because I realized this weekend that I only love doing makeup on myself :D Ridiculous, since Ive dreamed about doing bridal make up for years now. But hey, you have to choose dreams accordingly and I just had this one crushed by none other than myself. It doesnt even hurt that much. Im just going to continue doing all kinds of crazy stuff for work and let people ask me if Im going to a ball when actually, Im just teaching. Who cares!

I think this is quite nice book for begginers, but on the other hand I do not have comparision with others.
It covers skin care, make-up tools, basic advices. Photos are really nice, but not always covers given topic.
I did not like part about diet, fitness, etc. In my opinion there are books covering this topic and this one is not right one.
The part for profesionals was quite boring, as there was mainly advices that are proper for every profesion, like "be nice", "work hard".

While I'd say this book is a little broad (from beginner to pro is a broad group) it's a solid make-up manual. I definitely got some useful tips for my every day look and some ideas for glamming up. The pictures were useful. The book ends with an interesting timeline for make-up and brief bios of major players today.

It's an okay general overview. The skincare sections and portions of the book describing techniques are the best. The book is really repetitive, though. Some of the same tips are repeated several times. The variety of looks is also pretty narrow.
