This is a book whose stated aim is to bring to light obscure titles now available in America on DVD. A. O. Scott says in the preface that this is a guide to those movies “you may not have even known you were missing.”

Then you get to the actual movies. It's a weird, weird universe where even the casual film buff has somehow forgotten About a Boy, Adaptation, Almost Famous, American Beauty,

A list of films, many foreign, that are a little more obscure than your average blockbuster hit.
I was pleased that many of the quiet films I have loved were here on the list and yes, it did remind me that I want so share some of these with others.
I was a little disappointed that, of the movies that did carry ratings, about 80% or more were rated R, which I won't see.

Good ones that were in here that I'd recommend off the top of my head are The Hudsucker Proxy, Sweet and Lowdown, Bounce, The Age
