People who follow my reviews will not be surprised at all when I say I am an enormous fan of historical fiction. There's just something about being whisked away to a different time, preferably one in which women wore pretty dresses and men adhered to society bound forms of manners. *sigh* And no, I prefer not to dwell on the have-nots of these times. I'm all about the easy thrill of the well-to-do out to have fun and adventure!

So when I learned about Jamieson Ridenhour's paranormal mystery set i...more

Barking Mad is one insanely funny book! I had a BLAST reading it and will definitely recommend it to everyone I know. It's a deliciously savvy blend of historical fiction, comedy, and fantasy/supernatural (werewolves!). Ridenhour's deft and witty writing style makes for a delightful and totally exhilarating read. I can't remember last time I laughed so hard when reading a book! OMG, can I please have more of that?!

Set in 1930s...more

Reginald Spiffington is already dreading the weekend. His friend Moony has asked Reggie out to a country manor to assist Moony in getting the attention of a particular girl. Once there though, things get out of hand very quickly. A murder, a love interest, and a werewolf are only part of the trials Reggie must withstand. With the help of his valet Pelham, Reggie is determined to find the killer, help Moony get the girl, and eat some delicious food.

This book was so much fun! It has the amazing a...more

Jamieson Ridenhour is one talented author! He hooked me instantly with the charm and wittiness of this delightful murder mystery! I don't know how many times I laughed out loud with this book but I absolutely ADORED it! It's not a long novella, just 170 pages, and they fly by so quickly, when you reach the end, you'll be sad to say goodbye to Reggie, Pelham, Moony and all the other wonderful cast of characters in this 1930's murder mystery!

Reggie was an absolute JOY to get to know! I was instan...more

This was such a fun book to read, I found myself laughing and unable to put it down. This was a funny blend of historical fiction murder mystery that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Right from the start, I enjoyed the chatty, 1930's style and wry humour. The main character, Reginald Spiffington, speaks directly to the reader and engages them in the story. He's a shallow, yet endearing playboy who finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery investigation while staying at his friends country...more

When I signed up for the blog tour for this book I wasn't 100% what I was getting myself in to. I knew that it was a paranormal novel (the main character is a werewolf after all) and I knew there was a murder mystery. I did not know that this novel was the combination of two of my favourite genres – the paranormal novel and the cozy mystery. I would have never thought to put these two together but Jamieson Ridenhour makes it work.

The mystery in this novella...more

My Opinion:
Loved it! It’s that simple. The story was entertaining, witty, funny and a bit of a mystery thrown in. The characters were engaging and the book was well written. Reggie is absolutely dashing! He thinks he comes up with all the answers but most of them are given to him. His best friend Moony asks him for some help with wooing a girl over the weekend at Moony’s estate. Reggie wouldn’t dream of not going. His love for Dobbins cooking alone will get him to go. What he doesn’t bargain for...more

I have to admit first of all that I'm a bad book reviewer -- I read this book last summer at about this same time of year, and I left it as unread so I'd remember to review it. Well, it's a year later... and I re-read the book again.

It was a fun read both times. I love the silliness and word play between Reggie and Pelham. The book feels like the first episode of a great British TV show, kind of like Doctor Who, but with werewolves and such, what!

I have to admit that I wasn't terribly surprised...more

I read this book because I was curious. After reading an article about Jaimieson Ridenhour and knowing him from high school, I was very curious to see what Jaimie’s book was about. And I am glad I did read it. Barking Mad is a quirky fun book. I really got into the story, the style, the mystery and loved the characters. The best part about the book is that I did not want to put it down. I am really look forward to the next one.

So witty, so funny, so Jeeves and Wooster with WEREWOLVES! Written by my wonderful, brilliant, friend Jamie, and well worth your time and energy.
