What can I say about Sailor Moon? I grew up watching the anime, so finally getting to read the manga in English is a real treat for me. I realize going into it that certain things are not going to translate perfectly, but I can forgive it.
(Also, apologies in advance if I refer to characters by their Americanized names. I have a poor memory)

Dang Takeuchi, there ain't no fire. You can space your plot out a bit more. Or at least your drawings, there are some ridiculously busy pages this volume.
This volume made me realize one of the strengths of the anime was that it made up stuff to keep the series running longer. The manga is really compressed, with all the episodes the anime had it did a much better job developing the girls friendship. I'll give the manga the superior status when it comes to Usagi and Mamoru's relationship? Takeuch...more

Sailor Moon Volume 3 finishes up the equivalent of Season 1 of the Sailor Moon anime, and beginning the next arc of the story. In Volume 3 we see the senshi use the Moon Sword for the first time, and a much more tragic telling of the battle against Queen Beryl. As the inner senshi struggle to help Sailor Moon with the battle, Usagi fights to return Mamoru to normal and bring him back to her. As a fan who had mostly only seen the anime, it's wonderful to see more of the bond between Usagi and Mam...more
Favorite Scan in volume 3.

Volume 3 of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon [HBIC Sailor Mars is the cover] is the ending of the Dark Kingdom arch and the beginning of the Black Moon arc. We see Usagi come into her own and utilizing all her powers to finally fight the great evil that destroyed ruined both her lives.
The Black Moon arc starts with Chibi-Usa [aka Rini aka Trunks] arriving lip first onto earth and integrating herself into Usagi's life. Unfortunately, with her arrival brings a new ene...more

I've just finished this volume and I need to find out what happens next already. This third volume contains the end of the Dark Kingdom arc as well as the beginning of the Black Moon arc.
Previously, I'd seen the anime up until the end of the Dark Kingdom arc, so I knew pretty much what was going to happen, and whilst there were some nice surprises, it did end the way I'd assumed it would. However, the Black Moon arc is completely new to me, and so I'm dying to know what happens next. This volume...more

RATING: 3.5 stars
Good volume but the start of the second arc was a bit confusing. Too much happening in the panels.
-----------

So this novel brought the end of the first villian and then the appearance of a new enemy. (view spoiler) It's been a LONG time since I watched the anime so I don't remember if they had that in the anime. I love the Moon staff and am sad to see that a new wand has come into play. The wand just seems really bulky compared to her old one, and it's too girly for my taste. I'm glad the Sailor scouts aren't using pens anym...more

I read the first two volumes in 2011, but since it’s volume 3 I’m just going to lump them all together.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon tells the story of Usagi Tsukino, a normal 14 year old girl until a talking cat named Luna shows up in her life. She finds out that she is Sailor Moon, a sailor senshi destined to fight evil and find the Moon Princess. She finds other sailor senshi, like Mercury, Mars and Jupiter, and they join together on this quest.

Another fantastic volume to add to the Sailor Moon series. Again, the art was wonderful and the story was great. It was very different from the anime in some places, at least as far as I remember from the American translation, which I know already deviated from the Japanese version.
I also enjoyed Chibi-Usa showing up, as well as the Black Moon. I remember them well from the anime. Again, it's different from the anime, but these things tend to change. Sadly I have to wait for the next volume, bu...more

I loved how different the battle with Queen Beryl and Queen Metalia was compared to the anime series. The battle with Beryl was pretty short while the battle with Metalia was longer and a lot more detailed. When Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask were inside the Legendary Silver Crystal and inside Metalia I was completely suspensed since I didn't know what was going to happen to them. I also almost cried when the other scouts almost died. Good thing it ended up being a happy ending until Chibi Usa drop...more
This book has the end of the Queen Beryl arc and the beginning of the Dark Moon story arc, and while the beginning of the Dark Moon arc is not the strongest, it's the electrifying conclusion to Usagi's fight against Metalia is good enough to push this book from a 3 to a 4 star. It's also the start of seeing Usagi's friends get methodologically kidnapped - and yes, I'll be that jerk and ask why not Venus, but I guess she actually served a larger purpose for the story? The art of Usagi in action a...more
It's kind of interesting seeing how much more they put in the Anime just to fill episodes that isn't in the reprints of the mangas. The bad guys die much quicker in the mangas than they do in the anime. And some don't even die in the end. So that's kind of weird, but over all I like them so much better than the original graphic novels released in the US.
Other than that, I hate the fact that I'm almost done with the 4 books that I have because I don't have the 5th one and the 6th one doesn't come...more

Takeuchi...ti adoro!!!! *-*
Ps. sono bellissimi ♥♥♥ Usagi e Mamo!!!♥♥♥ *-* ...s...more

I read volume two of this forever ago (meaning: over the summer), and was a little blurry as to what had happened, and I hadn’t reviewed it, but I didn’t want to re-read it. So, I just went ahead and read this one. It took me a tiny bit of time to get back into it, but once I was, it went by rather quickly.

[2½ stars] It's not like I wasn't familiar with this plot. I read the entire series back in its first English incarnation, and while that was hardly the gold standard of Japanese-to-English translation, the story itself came through. But it's only on rereading it in this edition, years later, that I'm realizing what a little bloodbath this series is, all wrapped up in romance and silver crystals. (view spoiler)...more
Oh, Chibi Usa, I forgot how much of a prick you appeared to be at first. But gahhh this is still wonderful and Usako/Mamo-chan forever and all that jazz. I love that we've reached the end of the Queen Metaria episode, because that's basically all I know of Sailor Moon, and are moving into (for me) new territory. I love the girl's friendships, I love the drawings.. I just love everything, okay. I'm starting to think you seriously miss out on stuff if you're not into Sailor Moon because it's so br...more
Enjoyable from the perspective of reminiscing. Past fondness aside though, this isn't the strongest volume. The pacing of the story is a bit more disjointed than the previous two volumes. I've been wondering how much this disjointed feeling has to do with the source material and how much has to do with the continued stiffness of the translation. While the Mixx translations were over adapted, I confess feeling the Kodansha translations are a bit *under* adapted.
I'm really enjoying the story progression so far! My memory of this part of the anime is fuzzy, so it's nice and refreshing to read how the story originated.
I think the lead in to the next arc with the Dark Moon would benefit from having a full chapter dedicated to introducing the enemy more, especially since things start off so fast. It's like bam shit got real really fast.
Also, Venus continues to be awesome. <3

I didn't think Beryl and Metalia would go down so fast. The arrival of chibi-usa probably ushers in a downgrade in quality to the series. As soon as she arrived in a manga/anime cliche of simply falling out of the sky, my respect for the series took a hit. The art all of the sudden got very busy and cluttered as soon as the second story arc started. The plot also seems to be wandering a bit.
The end of one arc and the beginning of another! This was a great volume and it was good to see them coming up against a tougher challenge and losing for once instead of breezing through everything or having Tuxedo Mask come to the rescue (although he does that here too but anyway). Should make for some good character building. I'm looking forward to the next volume!
Another volume of lovely artwork but some inconsistent pacing mars this one. As one arc came to a close, it felt like the story was really taking some time and being allowed to breathe, but then as we head into the next arc, everything started feeling rushed all over again. Still, I'm so glad to have a chance to pick these up finally in paperback size :)
Everything beyond the Dark Kingdom arc is new to me, so it's taking a bit more effort to get through, but damn do I love this series. The Black Moon arc, thus far, has left me gasping, crying and yelling, "No, no, nooo!" more than once. I'm really excited about exploring parts of the mythology I've never heard of before.
Volume 3 is another solid volume.
It wraps up the first major story arc and introduces us to Chibiusa, starting the second, Black Moon, arc.
The ending of the first arc is solid.
The beginning of the second arc goes back to the "monster of the day" set-up and brings back a little of the cheese factor, I'm again relying on my sentimental side and just going with the flow. ;)
