This is a book which was written for children of the 60's, 70's, and 80's--most notably those whose experience included a much maligned, yet thoroughly addictive obsession called Role Playing games. If you have never played a table-top RPG (and no, MMORPG's do not count), you will likely neither understand the references nor derive the nuanced message at the heart of this book. That would be a shame, because the message is profound.

Jay's book reminds me of a cross between Clerks and D&D. I have never have read a work where character descriptions are so vivid, you can easily imagine such a person in your own life. Maybe it's because I role play, but this was a great read.
