I really liked the fact that this was a historical mystery where the history didn't predominate. Good period characters and an interesting story. It was clear who did it from fairly early on, which I assume was deliberate on the part of the author since she pretty much tells you in the prologue. The why of the story is the more interesting and less obvious part.

Yet another interesting novel by Cleverly--this one took me a bit of time to get into, but I enjoyed it once that happened. She must do an amazing amount of research to write these books, which take place in India during the time of the British Raj.

The writing left something to be desired and it was filled with over the top Britishism's and stereotypes, but it gives an interesting view on the history of the area that now includes Pakistan.

Set in 1920's British-invaded Afghanistan, it's an interesting mystery and a painful reminder that countries invading Afghanistan are destined for failure.
