Where is the rivalry?

Sure these guys may have already settled their debts and have learnt to work together, but where is the competition? Where is Batman’s naturally morose attitude? Where is his desire to show that you don’t need super powers to kick ass?

This just didn’t get the relationship of the two right, and moreover it pointed out the most painstakingly obvious details such as “I hate it when he does that.” I mean we don’t really near to be explicitly told this. The art can carry it thro
Lex puts out a warrant for Supes, a bunch of villains/heroes turn up to help/capture him, it's not heavy on plot as it focuses on Batman and Superman waxing poetic about each other. I'm not sure about the artwork some of it works and then at times it looks like a shitty knock off Bruce Timm.
After reading some reviews i was expecting some over the top bromance, proclamations of love, life saving endearing moments, y'know a lil something something.

But nah son, you all lied.

The world’s oldest question: Superman or Batman? Now, what if it isn’t always a “or”? The two titans haven’t always been either side of the fence. Although their sense of justice and their means vary grandly thanks to differences in their childhoods, there are various similarities that bring these two together more often than not. Legendary Jeph Loeb brings forth one of the many popular series that stars the “World’s Finest” duo as they tackle

An okay read! So this my first time reading the comic for this story, their was an animated film of this story, that I have watched over ten times! Unfortunately overall, I think I like the animated film better... My major issue with this story is just how confusing a lot of it is, I don't wanna spoil, but so much stuff happens in this one book that its crazy; I can see why the animated film they had to simplify the story a lot, but this one time, it was for the right reasons! So basically the s ...more

I am so loving that I committed to reading more graphic novels in 2014 because books like this are so much fun! I'm actually a Marvel guy and have never read much in the DC universe but this book was a blast.

Asteroid heading toward earth. President Lex Luthor offers a bounty on Superman (blames the asteroid on him) and an all out battle royal ensues. It's pretty much everyone against Superman & Batman - Soloman Grundy, Hawkman, Green Lantern, Power Girl (yea), Mister Freeze, Captain Cold, M

Superb. Surely the very best iteration of the World's Finest Team we will see in our lifetimes.

I really wanted to like this one, but it was bad, painfully bad. It had a moment or two of hope and it held my interest, but ultimately I was left hugely disappointed. First off, this is by far the most homoerotic comic I have ever read. The relationship between Batman and Superman surpassed the “Odd Couple” and dabbled into the very strange territory of secret love affair. I’m sure this was not the intention of the author but the constant secret admiration and worship of one another is uncomfor ...more
Reprints Superman/Batman #1-6. Batman and Superman team-up when Luthor frames Superman for the impending doom of the world. First off, I kind of like the art, but the story and writing is really bad. The juxtapositioning of Superman to Batman is interesting, but it is so forced that drawing out an entire series based on it seems fake. The supporting characters are so out of synch and the idea that Lex Luthor could turn the world against Superman with a lame press conference is laughable. At leas ...more

Review originally published Imprint (Volume 29, Issue 33) []

Superman and Batman have always stood on separate ends of the "superhero" spectrum.

The Kryptonian poster-boy of truth and justice has never seen eye to eye with Gotham City’s night prowler, having sparred on more than occasion for the very same reason.

This comic collection from writer Jeph Loeb sees them fighting side by side, bending the spectrum to show that at the core, the two crime fighters a

I gave it 3 stars, it certainly had it's moments, but a lot of it was crap.
Basically Superman and Batman team up (as the bestest of best friends) to take on President Lex Luthor who has amassed a team of Supers to take the Man of Steel down all while a continental sized hunk of Kryptonite hurtles towards earth (really fast!) threatening to destroy the world. It's really a Superman story, Batman is important to the plot mostly as a love

Well, let’s start with the art because that’s my biggest complaint. I felt like I was seven again. I hated this style. Perhaps it’s because I didn’t grow up in the 70’s. I was a 90’s kid. Almost everything from the 90’s was dark and gritty. That’s the way I like my comics. Dark, gritty, edgy, and clean, not cartoon-ish. If I wanted cartoons, goddamnit, I could have picked up the next Naruto.

Next, to the story. Oh my God, it was only slightly better. My biggest complaint was all the fighting. I k

I wasn't sure I was going to like this because I'm usually let down by team up editions, (although I do like when either one shows up in the others' adventures) but this was a great book. The inner monologue is told by both Superman and Batman, and traces back to the first time they crossed paths (as children in Kansas apparently). The monologue does a great job of showing how very similar they are in so many ways, but since they don't talk as openly as some, they don't know just how similar the ...more
Beautiful Art... really, really gorgeous, enough to get four stars on its own. I loved the black fill on all the pages - really made the colors pop. Lots of lovely uses of space and big panels that show detail.

However, the story is implausible and ridiculous. The parallel narration for the Superman/Batman works really well in the first chapter, but as they build the story the plot gets ridiculous. I know it's always hard to write a good Superman comic since what do you DO with him, but this one

This is my review for the whole series.

This Superman/Batman series is everything it should be. It's epic and personal at the same time. Loeb brilliantly manipulates the tension between Superman and Batman, whose friendship at times seems to rest superficially on a common interest to do good in the world. The two characters greatly disagree as to methodology and are frequently at each other's throats throughout the series. This difficult relationship makes the times when they genuinely show respe

Great read and wonderful team up between these two iconic characters. Strongly recommended. It balances both their traditional friendship as well as showing the strongly different viewpoints of the world the characters have.

That perennial shitass Lex Luthor, at this point in DC continuity, had managed to get himself elected Prez. In a dark yet often hilarious (lots of jokes about DC heroines' boob sizes) near political satire, Supes and Bats team-up to take down that mahfah. This also means taking on most of the cooler DC villains (Solomon Grundy vs Batman on the White House lawn!) and the pansy good guys who side with Luthor (Shazam! is lame, anyway). All this is going on while a giant Kryptonite meteor streaks to ...more

Maybe I have been spoilt by the likes of Dark Victory and the Long Halloween but I expected far better from Jeph Loeb's work.

While entertaining enough, the plot was just not believable. I mean, look, this is superman we are talking about, the beloved superhero that other superheroes look up to. Even if anyone accepted that a threat to earth was a threat to earth only because of him, how was that grounds for the arrest of superman?

The book was highly recommended. After reading it, I find it hard

The thing that I love most about this comic book is how Superman and Batman have this friends-yet-enemies relationship going on. Their ultimate goal is the same, but their methods and beliefs on how to reach that point are very different - just like Professor X and Magneto.

On a random side note, I didn't realize how many sidekicks/knock-offs Batman and Superman had until I read this comic book...

I loved the beginning of this and Batman and Superman talking through their beginnings. I really enjoyed their internal dialogue throughout showing their love and respect for each other. Their relationship is one of my favourites in the superhero universe as they are such opposites but they work together so well. The story itself is well written and is interesting but this is not my favourite version of Lex Luthor and he just didn't work for me.

Si el guion estuviera a la altura del dibujo, la historia sería otra. Pero como por más bonito que dibuje McGuiness el dibujo de Loeb sigue siendo de lo más pavote e inverosímil, me veo forzado a promediar para abajo.

I like to see Batman and Superman cooperate rather than fight. That being said this is not the best of those stories. There is some silliness contrasting with psychological aspect of inner monologues that serve as probe into Superman's and Batman's motivation and psyche. I understand that comics are sometimes a bit cheesy and silly I do not mind that. This book does not blend it very well. Plus I like Lex Luthor as intelligent foe rather than crazy psychopath.
