A classic Louis L'Amour book. It is nice to see a slightly more diversified caste in a western book. I liked the characters as they developed throughout this short book. I felt some actual disappointment as certain characters died.
There were two things I did not like about this book. 4 Chapters - Four. There were a lot of times when there was a scene transition but no break in the text. One sentence you are following Shalako and the next you are 20 miles away. Just some gaps in More...

I thought this one had something to do with the ghost town of Shainko, out off Highway 97 in Oregon, but I was wrong--it just sounded similar. Still, that kid connection is still there for me and I think of the twon when I look at the title of this book.

I'll read almost anything written by L'Amour. He's a good writer, but I sometimes get tired of the Evil Indian stuff. Not all were evil, their way of life was threatened by the new comers.

It is good book; It’s about western story, that is in the past. This book has a little romantic in it, but not that bad.

Not one of his best books. My coworker says they made a movie out of this one...not sure why. I struggled a bit to get through it. I've read a few of the Sackett books, and I'm quite enjoying them.

Good book but the entire book is about people fighting Indians and I really hate hearing the details about an Indian fight. Sure people get shot and die. The Indians don't attack at night...etc. Don't laugh but if you've read one Indian fight you've read them all! I know that sounds dumb but it is my opinion and since I wrote this review...there you go. I do enjoy the smarmy man getting showed up by someone more street wise.

Again, problems with the female character, but overall enjoyable. Some arrogant European guy shows up to show the Americans how to deal with Indians, and Shalako shows up to teach them how to treat Apaches with more respect. It also had one of my favorite lines from any L'Amour novel: "I've never seen any man [Shalako] value sleep more; or get less of it himself."

This is a typical Louis L'Amour western in that he does westerns really well. The story is 95% western, 5% romance. They never kiss but do ride off at the end together so maybe less than 5%. lol This was made into a movie in 1969 starring Sean Connery and Brigitte Bardot.

I'm not a huge fan of the evil-Indian plot, but I do love L'Amour's individual characters. His single-name books are the best ones.

Anything written by Louis L'Amour is not only worth reading once but several times.
