Clare C’s Review

Ancient Blood refers to the bloodlines of the werewolves in a small New England town. The novel follows three couples as they navigate the varying effects of these bloodlines on their relationships. Steve is a scientist who has accidentally given himself vampiric appetites. He needs to cure himself so he can be with Mel. Cole had a bad experience with a wife decades before, so he’s reluctant to claim Lily as his mate. Mike and Jane must combat her brother’s prejudice and borderl

Edwards crafts a paranormal tale that intrigues with the mystery of ancient blood, suspense, and love. Lily Alban has relocated to the small New England town of Rhodes End to avoid a human stalker, but danger has found her. Can Cole keep her safe or will his secret drive her away?

"Ancient Blood," Book Two of the "Finding Rhodes End" series is set in the cold harsh winter of January. Lily is new to the town, but soon makes friends. Melanie is a dedicated cop, and Jane, a dedicate employee of the
This tale follows three couples in Rhodes End, a small New England town. Steve is a scientist who is infected with a virus that gives him cravings like a vampire. He is working on a cure for himself so he can be with Mel, the woman he loves. He is also working on a cure for Cole, who is a werewolf. The females in their clan don’t always survive the childbirth process or the change. Cole has lost a wife because of this curse. When he falls for Lily, he tries to keep his feelings in check. Barbara Edwards’ Ancient Blood has a strong sense of story, sweeping aura-seeing Lily and werewolf Cole along on a collision course with danger. The town of Rhodes End is populated with quirky characters who add intrest and intrigue. I read this book from start to finish in one evening.

This was a great surprise find for me. When I started reading this book, I have to admit I was confused. Then I realized it was a Book 2, and I went and read Ancient Awakening first. I would definitely not recommend this as a standalone novel. However, since both books are terrific, just buy them both and save yourself my frustration!

I love the people in this town. The characters are well-written, and the action keeps it going till the end. Lil

A long-awaited sequel. It’s good to renew the acquaintance of old characters, although they are still caught in the throes of the same problems. Unlike most sequels introducing new characters, this one has Steve and Mel still very prominent, playing almost as important roles as they did in Ancient Awakenings. The new romance between Cole and Lily reflects the feelings between Steve and Mel, as does, in a way, Cole’s hunt for the rogue werewolf versus the sheriff’s search for Lily’s stalker.

A friend urged me to read this book, and I'm glad I did. Ancient Blood is a paranormal romance, but it's also a mystery/detective story, too. I liked the werewolf culture Edwards constructs, particularly the notion that werewolves, like wolves, generally mate for life. I also like the magnetic attraction between the two main characters, Lily and Cole. Lily has moved to a small town to escape a stalker, but soon discovers there's a lot more to the town than she realizes! I can see this as a stron ...more

I’m Barbara Edwards and a native New Englander. I’m a graduate of the University of Hartford with a Master’s degree in Public Administration. I write poetry for myself and novels when I need to tell a longer tale. I’m fascinated by the past so naturally turned to writing historical romance. The dark paranormal stories evolve from nightmares. The romance comes from my belief in people’s basic good ...more
