Fa

Faolan the wolf pup has found the clan wolves and has been trying to gain acceptance. He has been admitted to the clan but only as a lowly gnaw wolf. A wolf who eats last if they are even permitted to eat. A wolf who gnaws storys on the bones of kills made by the pack.

SAME REVIEW AS BOOK ONE AND BOOK THREE OF THE SERIES:

The Wolves of the Beyond trilogy is a spin-off by the author of the Guardians of the Ga'Hoole -- the YA series, and also a motion picture, about owls of the Beyond. Shadow Wolf is Book Two of this newer series: Wolves of the Beyond.
Although written for a young adult audience, I still enjoyed most of it (although my vast knowledge of wolves kept pointing out the wrongs and rights about the book). I found the series interesting tales as long a

Kathryn Lasky, in the forward wrote: "I have always thought that writing is not a solitary performance, but a collaborative - one between an author and the past-what she has read, listened to, and absorbed. The shoulders of giants are not just reserved for scientists as Newton suggested, but writers and artists perch there as well. If I have overlooked in my acknowledgments any giants, I apologize." She might be standing on the shoulders of giants but I am sure generations to come will consider ...more

Faolan's journey continues in the second installment of the series. Faolan now has the lowest ranking among his pack. He has the chance to go to the "gnaddergaw", games for low ranked wolves. The winners will get to go to the sacred Watch, where they are treated with respect. Faolan has a big chance of winning, until a wolf pup gets killed and everyone seems to blame him.

While not as bland as the first book, still a very boring book. The character doesn't get much development here either, and, a

The beginning mistake was pathetic. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars, but that first little bit is pathetic, absolutely stupid. Especially compared to how smart he was in the first book, that just made no sense. However, aside from that, it's a pretty good book and is definitely worth your time if you don't mind skipping to the second or third chapter. It is relatively unique - not many books take a wolf's perspective, excellent writing, excellent congruity (matches up with the first book al ...more

This is the second book in the Wolves of the Beyond series by Kathryn Lasky.

Our oldest picked up Lone Wolf, the first book of the series, at our local library and thought she'd check it out. I'm sure she selected it because she really likes wolves.

She really liked the first two stories and is excited to read more of the books in the series. It's a quick read, and while the drama is a bit predictable, it's still entertaining. We are introduced to more characters in this story and I'm interested

In this sequel to the first one, Lone Wolf, the protagonist, Faolan returns to his clan as a gnaw wolf, a wolf who gnaws on bones to create a design, and also the lowest member of society in the clans. Faolan has become a very good gnaw wolf, and probably the best gnaw wolf of his generation, but some grow suspicious of Faolan and his competitor, Heep becomes wary of Faolan, because he sees him as his biggest obstacle in getting into the watch of the sacred volcanoes, one of the most respected o ...more

Wolves of the Beyond” is a thrilling book that anyone can be sucked into. Kathryn Lasky is a amazing author. At first I read it slowly and got sucked into it immediately. This book is a book poeple of all ages will enjoy, this is a book about friendship, loneliness ,truth, and understanding. Kathryn Lasky has an amazing way of putting the reader in the situation. I have read this book and enjoyed it in so many ways that I have trouble expressing. I hope that you will enjoy this thrilling adventu ...more

Kathryn Lasky continues her tale of wolves in the world of the Guardians of Ga'hoole. While I've only read the first Ga'hoole book, this series feels less like a big fantasy epic. Instead, it focuses on the deformed gnaw wolf, Faolan, as he learns to fit into wolf society despite having been raised by a grizzly bear. Towards the end, we get hints of things opening out into a larger storyline, but for the most part, this is a smaller, more personal story.

Lasky does a fantastic job showing the com

I have to give props to Lasky for creating such a world - I don't know if I could ever pull something like that off.

However . . . it was really confusing. The owls have different words and traditions. The bears have different words and traditions. The wolves are the most complicated of them all. And it's hard to keep track of what things mean!

Not only that, but it was so predictable and . . . a bit repetitive from the first book. Faolan is different because of his paw. The clans don't trust him

Could Kathryn Lasky do any better?! I don't belive it possible! Her words tied knots within my head, searing nothing more than a title that deserves the name classic into the side of my brain! I am incapable of describing the pure satisfaction that she deserves. I feel as if the characters stand in the very room with me and I stroke the course fur upon thier backs. Plus I could feel the emotional tention that resighned throughout the story.(view spoiler) ...more

This is a adventuresome book you can sink your teeth in. Faolan tries again and again to have acceptance. He learns to fit into wolf society despite having been raised by a grizzly bear. There is a lot of drama and tragedy. I liked the part that when Faolan had went on the journey to kill moose and store it for the winter. It was surprising When Faolan was brave enough to go in the front of the line in the pack and hunt down the moose, but he was punished because he did that.

This series covers the dynamics of pack culture wolf clans and what it means to be on the fringes of a pack. Wolf pups born with a deformity are left to die soon after their birth. The gnaw wolves in this series survive being left to die and are made the outcasts of their packs due to birth defects. Ms. Lasky has a winner in her character fallon. Fallon is a gnaw wolf who's character is a interesting mix of vulnerability clothed in dignity. He struggles with his position in the pack and with kno ...more

This story was even wilder than the last one.

This is a REALLY good book. I loved it and recommend it!

This book was fantastic! But, sad, too. The sad part is when Thunderheart gets thought about by Foalan, and Thunderheart was a grizzly bear who found Foalan on a ice shaft in a river because he had a splayed paw. Packs get rid of pups when they have bad things that happened. Like, they died, they have no legs, they have no eyes, because they would be bad for the pack, so this grizzly was charmful enough to take Foalan as a cub/pup. This was Foalan's Second Milk Giver. I love this book because Fo ...more

Faolan has now found his home. But it still doesn't feel right. As a gnaw wolf he is not accepted in the pack, he is the lowest ranking wolf there is. Faolan is not allowed to hunt with the other wolves, he can't sleep with them, and he eats last. Faolan still feel that he was meant to be somewhere else. But, were?

On Faolan's path to finding out where he belongs, he meets new friends, and enemies.... Will Faolan be strong enough to deal with both his past and present troubles?
