Another 3.5'er. Avi and Amy are so cute together. Not perfect and sappy. Nope. They are real. (In the fiction sense . . . I know they are characters.) I liked that Avi got to see Amy on her turf. And I liked how theAnd I liked that we get to see her dad be an overprotective dad. Yay, dad. And Nathan. Ha! That kid is some piece of work. I like how Amy has the egocentric adolescent personality, but also has the caring, big heart that adolescents have. Adult sometimes miss it because teens are so o...more

Did I really start the book today? lol I didn't know if I would finish it by today considering I had no time. Anyways, this book was so damn cute! I loved it! Especially the part when Amy kidnaps Avi, lol I could not stop laughing. This series has so far kept me laughing and in high spirts. Avi, really reminded me of Alex from the Perfect Chemistry. Sure its by the same author but it just a feeling I had, that Alex and Avi are so alike. And I love them both for that. Cannot wait to read the thri...more

So I said it my March TBR that I wanted to read How to Ruin my Boyfriend's Reputation and it was only when I was about 20 pages into it that I realised that the books on my shelf were mixed up and I was reading the third in the series rather the second. So I decided to pick this one up and read it before starting on the other again. I really enjoyed the first in the series as it reminded me of a real summer time read which is always brilliant in my opinion because even on the coldest day it tran...more

How to Ruin My Teenage Life is the second book about Amy Nelson-Barak, who comes back to America after the summer vacation ends. Amy misses her Israeli non-boyfriend, Avi Gefen, but she seldom gets to call him on the phone and writes him letters, much less meet him in person.

Her new neighbour, Nathan turns up, miraculously, to be the new transfer student in her school. Too bad they don't get along with each other too well. Meanwhile, Amy's mother is officially married to her stepdad, Marc with a...more

I thought it was a piece of crap---fluffy teenage romance with a Jewish twist. It had so much potential with the whole Jewish conversion theme and living with a father she hardly knows. She is incredibly self-centered and doesn't really think of other people. There are Biblical quotes with her personal musings at the beginning of each chapter but they are spiritually shallow. She may be exploring her cultural Jewish roots but she has a long way to go in embracing the meaning behind that culture....more

This book really reminded me of the Twilight's Sage, New moon, because in both of the second books of the series the guy leaves. i thought this book was going to be horrible because i hated it when that happened in new moon (it was actually the worst book of the series in my opinion). but nope, it wasnt that bad, yea there was another guy involved, but he really was no competition for Avi. ok they kissed, if my guy kissed another girl i would be mad too. The main character, Amy on the other han...more

3,5 star, actually...

Masih tetap romantis dan relijius

Summary:

I could have easily finished this book as quick as the others, but school and work come fist.

Now if you do read between the lines, you could prabably see Amy as an immature airhead who focuses way to much on the size of her boobs. Proving she is stupid by: 1) stealing her fathers creditcard to sign him up on a dating site that he did not to do and 2) by never think about the consequences to her actions but just thinking of the plan and going with it. As she struggles to find her place in the wo...more

Simone Elkeles sure knows how to keep her readers entertained with hysterically amusing characters that you just can't help falling for.

I read the How to Ruin series out of order, but no worries, they stand beautifully on their own. I was so excited when my library got this book in that I jumped right into it, and finished the story within a couple of hours. These books are at the top of my favorites list... by far! No surprise that Amy Nelson Barak is my all time favorite female fictional char...more

Plot:
Amy is back in Chicago, now living with her dad and her dog Mutt. Her non-boyfriend is training in the Israeli army and a new annoying guy seems to be everywhere she is. Her mom just got married and now expecting a baby, and to make her dad feel less lonely she signs him up to a dating site for Jews. Nothing goes her way and now she has to face the consequences.

I have nothing good to say about this book. I wouldn't even give this book a one star because it is so bad. This novel just pisses me off from start to finish. The Hebrew passages were so shallow and insensitive. The plot was un-called for. Basically, the author didn't have to make a sequel. Amy was EXTREMELY annoying and bitchy. Oh, and did I forget bitchy? Yeah, I know the first book Amy was a big snob, but she had every right to be. Being forced to go to a third world...more

Sigh, pretty amazing!

Still love Mutt!

So basically, we've got boy issues in this book. (view spoiler)[Like Nate? Hmm, interesting. What's gonna go on there. And we have this non-boyfriend thing, and Avi shows up for a surprise! But wait up, Amy kissed Nate once. Then Nate kissed Amy another time? Say whaat. And they're now pretend dating, but then Avi shows up. Oh no, and he's jealous. Man, then the two are in a fight and all. Then they get back together! And that part is just so cute and romanti...more

Another great book in a great series!
Amy is back and a troubled as ever!
Now living in Chicago with her dad who she calls Aba, she's gotten herself in trouble by signing he Aba up for a dating service. So her signed her up for a job at Perk Me Up!, where she has to smile all the time. And that's so not her style.
A new boy moved into her apartment building. Geeky, nerdy Nathan who has already made assumptions about Amy that she's stereotypical, insensitive, and obnoxious. Boy does he get on Amy's...more

"Yes. I have a daughter who insists she knows everything."

"That's not your problem, Aba. That's your blessing."

Review:

This is the second book to the ruin series by Simone Elkeles. Now, I'm gonna be honest, this book was a little frustrating in the beginning...

Come on, Avi was no where in sight! Can ya blame me? Anyway, towards the middle and especially the end of the book, it got really hot. However, prior to Avi's return, I got a lot of...more

it is about a 17 year-old girl named Amy, who is introduced to a job witch her dad is making her do, she is about to have a half-brother of half-sister, she's living with a complicated living arangment with her mother and father, and she has a boyfriend who lives half-way across the globe...

Another fantastic read by Simone. Love all her books; she never fails to make me laugh! There were two scenes that totally cracked me up. When they kidnapped Avi, I was just cracking up when the campus police got involved. Seriously some hilarious shit right there! I love Amy. She is just so crazy and over dramatic sometimes. I really liked Nathan. I’m glad everything worked out and they are friends. I hate the religious thing in this book… annoys the crap outta me that Je...more

i loved this book as much as the last one seriously!!
this book is about amy is back in new york with her dad while avi is in the army and she misses him like crazy. then this neighbour comes in next door and he is no way near avi's looks. he has glasses and wheres weird clothes and amy does not like him one bit but cant stop thinking about him because he is so annoying! so when amy tries to figure out if she does have feelings for him she is confused because she knows she loves avi but he is al...more

This book was trully frustrating... well the relationship was anyway! Of course I loved every minute of it and couldn't help but jump out of my seat (in a good way) and fly around the room screaming "ahhhhhh! What were you thinking?!", again, in a good way. Amy and Avi's relationship takes a turnaround after getting caught up in a compromising situation. Amy (with her frustrating yet amazingly addictive attitude) makes mistakes as she often does and is in for a shock when she realizes this probl...more

Once again, Ms Elkeles has done an amazing job with making me laughing and falling harder and faster for her characters. *Sighs happily thinking of Avi* I love learning other languages from her books and the Jewish culture is something I know nothing about, so its definately interesting. I could understand how Amy was feeling too far apart from Israel and how her affection was drifting towards Nathan, but I was also super angry and upset with her too. And poor, poor Avi. I found the parts where...more

Amy yg terbiasa hidup dikelilingi cinta, harus menahan perasaannya dan berusaha setia pada Avi, yg berada bermil-mil darinya. Amy mesti puas dg. telepon pendek dan surat seminggu sekali dari Avi. For some reason I skipped the first book in the How to Ruin series and went right to this one so I missed out on some previous events that were referenced. However, that didn't affect the story, I did not feel like I was clueless. In other words, the author did a great job with not making you feel left out if you didn't read the first one.

I really enjoyed the book. The plot was entertaining and as a young woman I can look back on my teen years and relate to much of what Amy feels and goes throug...more

I'm so relieved!

I'll admit this one was better then the first (thank god!).

Still nowhere near as good as her other books though..... But at least there are more positives than negatives this time!

I liked the humour and the addition of Nathen, he was an awesome character. I also liked getting to know the characters better, I liked that Elkeles added more depth.

However the main character cintinued to annoy me, so did the romance, I just didn't feel it. I was also not into the storyline itself,...more

What a great surprise to discover there was another novel about Amy Nelson-Barak. Since her return from her summer in Israel, her mother has remarried and moved to the burbs, and Amy lives in Chicago with her father. It’s a great learning experience for them both, as Amy navigates her feelings about non-boyfriend Avi, back in Israel in the Israeli Army and her new place in her mother’s family, both with the move and a new baby on the way. Elkeles makes Amy slightly unlikable again, but her gradu...more

This was a much funnier book than I first thought. Amy is a Jewish girl that is having problems with her split family, having her boyfriend troubles (because he is in Israel and she is in Chicago), she has a run in with this snotty neighbor *spoiler* (that actually leads them to become friends), and to top it off has a crazy dog named, Mutt that keeps getting her into even more trouble. Not that *spoiler* taking her dad's credit card to get him on a Jewish Online Dating Service was enough, then...more
