At first, I thought that this book was just going to be another boring book about basketball. I was wrong. It is about two people, and basketball brings them together, despite their differences. Nick is a team player and knows when to pass the ball but Trent Dawson doesn't know that team isn't spelled with an I. Trent comes from a ruined home life and a bad school...more

I really enjoyed reading this book, mainly because it was about basketball, and i love basketball. Throughout the book, the main character Nick plays ball and is a sophmore at his highschool. His older brother is better then he is and his father always pushes his older son harder then his younger one, which is nick. But later in the book, Nicks older brother doesnt really want to play basketball anymore, he starts to play an instrument and his father is upset at this. Finally, his dad accepts th...more

Nick Abbott, the mian character in this book always liked to play basketball just like his older brother but one thing he doesnt get are the compliments from his their father. His father encourages his older brother to keep playing basketball because he is good at it but the brother eventually noticed that he doesnt like basketball as much as he thought he did. He joins the scholl basketball team and got really involved. He made many new friends. He have a game and really wished his fathe...more

I just finished reading the book Night Hoops by Carl Deuker and I found it to be a very good sports book.
This book is about a boy named Nick who develops into a basketball star in his father’s eyes due to playing nightly one on one basketball games with a neighbor. Nick was never the focus of his father but is not starting to develop as a star in his eyes. What I liked about this book is the way that Carl draws me into the book. His description of setting is very strong and I felt that mood...more

THIS BOOK WAS GREAT BOOK FOR PEOPLE WITH EITHER OLDER BROTHERS OR PEOPLE THAT LOVE BASKETBALL. THIS BOOK SHOW THE HUGE GRUDGE THAT IS SEEN IN ALL FAMILIY SITCOMS BETWEEN THE OLDER AND YOUNGER BROTHERS. THE MORE SERIOUS SIDE OF THIS BOOK IS THAT THE FATHER ALSO LEAVES THE FAMILY WHICH LEAVES THE OLDER BROTHER NOT PLAYING BASKETBALL NO MORE BUT THE YOUNDER BROTHER PLAYING AND PRACTICING MORE THEN EVER AND AT ONE POINT THE YOUNGER BROTHER BEATS THE OLDER BROTHER WHICH EXPRESSES HIS LOVE FOR THE GAM...more

From a very young age we are taught to share. But for Nick it was getting to be hard to stay in the game. After his elder brother, Scott, refused to play basketball, his father finally took his iterest in Nikc. But Nick's game didn't improve at all. He only made it into the team, but spent all his time on the bench loosig his father's interest. But playing hoops with Trent Dawson changed Nick. He got timein the game, butalso a true friend. I thought that this book was vry nice. It was't very sup...more

Nick, the main character of this book. Nick likes to play basketball and he is very good at it. He has a older brother that also like to play basketball. Although, Nick is very good at playing ball, he doesn't get the attention that he deserves. His father doesn't support Nicek. He only cares about his older son. His father at the end shows him in his game and supports him through out the game. I recommend this book to anyone who loves play basetball and like to read about sports. This is right ...more

The bully Trent Dawson has some problems with his family. His mom seems to have a new boyfriend every week and his brother kills a kid. Can Nick turn Trent around by beeing his pal and playing basketball with him? Can Trent the bully who nearly killed him be his pal? So many more questions. Will Nick become a great basketball player? Will Trents brother Zach get caught for killing a kid? Last will Nicks Dad find a new wife? Well you will just have to read, read, and read some more to f...more

I gave it 3 stars because I'm not a big sports book fan, but it's a perfectly good example of the genre. Issues are address, problems are resolved, etc. Plus, local author.
