I have been waiting quite a while to get my hands on this one so I could read the Christine Feehan entry. I wasn't going to bother, but since it was the introduction to both the De La Cruz brothers and the Jaguar people, I thought I should. Of course, as always, I whine that anthology entries are just not long enough or detailed enough to give you developed characters or storylines, but this one does quite well.

Dark Hunger by Christine Feehan is book 14 in the Dark Carpathian Series. I read this "short story" in an anthology, and this review is only for Dark Hunger.
Riordan is an ancient and powerful Carpathian male living in the jungles of South America with his brothers. Trapped and caged by the same beastly Morrison Psychic Research Center that has been endangering the lives of all immortals throughout the series, Riordan will give his life before becoming the bait to bring in h...more

Two out of four isn't bad, but it could be better.
Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger is the usual Dark Series book. Hot and sexy - and a great introduction to the stories of the five De La Cruz brothers.
Maggie Shayne disappointed me - her story didn't have the right vibe.
Emma Holly's storytelling and plot improved from the novella in Fantasy. At least it made me laugh.

I'd heard mentions of Feehan as one of the authors who really boosted the visibility of paranormal romance. I was thoroughly unconvinced by her story. Lots of "Males are not to be trusted! But it's okay to use 'em for sex. But you're special, I want you and trust you" from the female shapeshifter, and "Don't do dangerous things while I'm trapped underground during the day! Wait, I can find some little extra pocket of super-power to help you out" from the male vampire.

An anthology of 4 short stories, gets 4 short reviews from me. I liked this one, for me it had 2 authors I am familiar with and 2 I had never read before (but will in the future).
Dark Hunger (Carpathians - Dark series, book 14) by Christine Feehan
Chained to a wall by the humans, caught in a trap surely set by a master vampire, Riordan De La Cruz was running out hope until he felt her coming into the room. Witnessing the men take more wild animals into the new research building,...more

I'd give Hot Blooded 3.5 stars overall.
Dark Hunger by Christine Feehan was alright. Better then Dark Prince, the first book in the series, but her writing still kind-of annoys me. That and I don't particularily like her characters, although this one was much better - stonger and less idiotic then the one in the first book. My favourite part of this story is that it was set in the South American rainforest instead of Europe or North America.

#14 of Carpathian series and I enjoyed all except "The Night Owl" in this anthology. This book has 4 short stories:
1. "Dark Hunger" by Feehan
- Juliette and Riordan's tale
- Carpathian Series, Book #14
2. "Awaiting Moonrise" by Maggie Shayne
3. "The Night Owl" by Emma Holly
- Upyr Series, Book #4

Ok I initially wanted to read this so I ccould read the Carpathian novella from Christine Feehan "Dark Hunger" and it was fairly typical of all the others in the series with the exception that Juliette (the woman who become converted) actually welcomes the change. But it is the other stories in this anthology that make this collection great. I suppose I enjoyed Emma Holly's "the Night Owl" the most. Mariann is a mature woman who lives alone in the country town as the local ...more
I actually enjoyed this collection of novellas. Christine Feehan's "Dark Hunger" was okay, as usual, but I was pleasantly surprised with the rest of the stories. I adored the last one by Angela Knight, where she wove in the mythology of King Arthur's court with vampires and witches. Of the grouping here, the last was definitely my favorite. The second to last novella was by Emma Holly, and thought it was a great story as well.

I always find it hard to rate an anthology, because inevitably I really like some and really don't like others, and that holds true here. On the strength of Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger, tho, I give this an overall 3.5*
Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger gets a strong 4* - loved Riordan & Juliette & looking forward to stories about Jasmine & Solange
Maggie Shayne's Upyr story gets a weak 3*
Emma Holly's cute story gets 3.5* just because it was so cute

Four good reads. Feehan's "Dark Hunger" adds another piece to the Carpathian story with a interesting story line about the Jaguar shapeshifters "Juliette" and how that specieis relate to the Carpathians. "Awaiting Moonrise" by Maggie Shayne (who I have not read much of) was about the Bayou where professor Jenny Rose is doing research on the possibility of another species, and of course, she finds a werewolf and falls in love. No big surprises but still a good story....more

I bought this book strictly for the Feehan story, not planning on reading the other three. But after Dark Hunger, decided what the heck? I'd give it a try. I surprised myself by enjoying all four stories practically equally.
Dark Hunger takes place in South America, which is different. Juliette and Riordan (how do you pronounce that?) make a good couple. No surprise there. But the element of Juliette being a species of jaguar shape-shifter definitely added a new dimension and makes me ...more

A short story of the upyr set in the modern United States, this installation of the series finds Bastien and Emile, the French renegades of the earlier story, looking to start their own pack after having been given a friendly nudge by Ulric off the British isles. Bastien opens a bread and breakfast, the eponymous Night Owl, from which he has a window on the human world. The love interest, Mariann, runs the bakery shop which supplies the inn with home-baked goodies. Mariann has her own problems,...more
I didn't want to read all of the stories from this book. I have a bad habit of starting a series from the middle or end then working my way back. I only read Angelia Knights Mageverse #1, as I already have read everything else from the series to date.
I really enjoyed being able to see where it all began with the Mageverse series. I knew most of what the back story was already, but it was nice to get a few things I didn't know filled in. I happen to like this spin on the Arthurian ...more

I got this collection because I like Angela Knight and Emma Holly, and I wanted to read the first Mageverse installment. The concept is so weird and stupid. Basically the Mageverse is a parallel dimension where magical/alien beings live. The Mageverse and its peoples exist to protect the earth from evil.
In order to create Mageverse beings on Earth, Merlin, a magical alien, came to Earth and left his genetics with the Knights of the Round Table making them Magi, who are powerful warr...more

Vampires, werewolves, Carpathians, oh my!
There's a little something for everyone who loves paranormal romance in this book!
Three of the four stories are tied to series -- none of which I actually read. But, I may start them now that I've read this book!
Warning: Stories contain hot sex!
I bought this book, but will be donating it to my local library.

I orginally picked this book up for the Angela Knight short story, but enjoyed the Christine Feehan one as well. The other 2 stories were 'meh', which lead me to give it only 3/5 stars.
The Feehan story is part of her Carpathian series, and is one that I've not read before. I vaguely remember reading one or two of the first of the series, so this short story was a pleasant refresher that urges me to go back to the beginning and start over with #1.

I bought Hot Blooded because I love Christine Feehan and Angela Knight, but I was terribly disappointed. I have been a paranormal romance junkie for years, I love strong characters, a great plot, plenty of adventure/horror, and erotica in my novels, but this is literally the worst book I've ever read.
Have knocked off the story I got this book for - Mageverse #1 - just to discover 6 pages missing at a critical point. Library books, eh? May well look at the other 3 stories over the next few weeks, but not exactly rushing to do so: I've feeling a bit of paranormal romance satiation after the excellent Must Love Hellhounds collection.

I'm not really a fan of short stories but reading this book gave me the chance to check out 4 new-to-me authors. Loved the passion and intensity of Christine Feehan's Dark Hunger and want to read more of the Carpathian series now. Enjoyed Emma Holly's The Night Owl and will explore a few more of her books as a result. Wasn't that taken with the world or dialogue between characters in Angela Knight's Seduction's Gift and am not a big shapeshifter/animal breed fan so didn't enjoy Maggie Shayne's...more

In this quartet of steamy werewolf stories, this authors explore and expand the werewolf myths and the erotic love-making skills of werewolves. There is a re-telling of the Arthurian legend that should not be missed.
I did not like Riodarn or Juliette. When I read Dark Celebrations and Gregori jumped in their "stinky stuff" for not putting the Prince first, I cheered. Hard to believe Riordan is a De La Cruz (ah....)
Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors. I like her writing style and how her stories flow. Everything she has written gets high praises from me!!!
The other stories by the other authors in this book are also very good. I recommend looking into these authors for some of their other material.
Feehan's Carpathian series, Dark Hunger with Riordan and Juliette.
Enjoyed all four of the stories, vampires, werewolves, and more vamps! Fast read.
