What intrigued me the most about Maxime Chattam’s Carnage when I first saw this title on the publisher’s website was its length. With only 112 pages, it has to be the shortest thriller/mystery I’ve ever seen and read and I was really looking forward to seeing how the story would unfold in such a short time. I don’t normally read such short stories but Carnage was an exception – the synopsis sounded brilliant and as I love crime, I k...more

This is a very short book which can be read in one sitting, it moves at a fast pace and the characters are fairly good. It is an easy read and flows nicely with a slight twist at the end. A little predictable, the clues are a bit obvious as you read and most people would probably work out the ending but an enjoyable read if you want something quick and easy. The subject matter of high school massacres can be a very emotive one as can the fascist angle so may provide some discussion for book club...more
Que dire ... ? Chattam m'a habituée à mieux.
Carnage is a short novella at 111 pages yet it packs some punch. It covers a series of high school shootings in New York and the investigation from the point of view of Lieutenant Lamar Gallineo. The first few pages cover the massacre and are quite brutal, but then this is honest to the subject matter. Not one for the faint hearted but it's a great way to spend an hour or two as the pace is fast. Think of it as an episode of CSI rather than a feature film, there's just enough to entertain withou...more
