If you are a fan of the Fruits Basket anime series and have watched all the episodes, this volume is were the final episode ends. This volume was crazy good!
Technically this is at the very end of the volume but I want to get to all the Kyo stuff so: Ayame is still trying to build a relationship with Yuki. Yuki decides to go to Ayame’s shop and he takes Tohru with him. They are in for some big surprises. There's not a big Oprah moment when everyone all of a sudden gets each other, but...more

another cute manga!!! i was very surprised at how fast the anime ended compared to the manga! this would have been the last book if the anime followed to the end of furuba!!! this volume is one of my favorites because it made me cry!! kyo is one of my favorite characters and it hurt me to see him like that!!! i'm so glad that throughout all the pain and sadness it ended happily! and it makes me laugh that throughout all the drama, shigure is always in a good mood!!! haha! i was thinking about th...more

Five stars... did you expect anything less? Especially in this volume? Man... this volume was very, very, VERY hard to get through. It was extremely sad... you wouldn't think it because of the cover but it's true! The cover is a bit misleading. (Don't get me wrong. I love Momiji! He's so adorable but with what happens within the volume... yeah... you'll be like, "How can something so horrible be inside something so cute!?") It's THAT depressing. Sure, it has a great ending... BUT THAT ...more
This volume opens with the three main characters walking home from school in the rain. Kyo seems exhausted, and his day gets even worse as he tromps home to find Kagura waiting for him. As always, Kagura confesses her love for him and punches him immediately after. When Kagura decides to hang around, she only leaves when she's good and ready (much like Ayame), but she doesn't cause problems for anyone but Kyo, so Shigure doesn't mind having her around. But Kagura isn't the only visitor to the ho...more
This is the volume I've been waiting for and I didn't think it would show up so soon. I've watched the anime so I already knew what was going to happen, but I was excited to get to it anyway. I imagine this will jump start the relationship between Kyo and Tohru. At least, I hope it will.
I was impressed with how this was handled. I think it's so easy to make manga silly to the point that the serious parts don't shine through. This one is nearly the opposite. There's plenty of comic reli...more

The biggest story arc in this volume is the visit by Kyo's Master and his revealing Kyo's biggest secret to Tohru (his secret form) in hopes that Kyo will realize he's happy and healing at Shigure's home and can't run away to live with him. I really liked this part because it answered one question I had about Kyo's real form, and it showed a lot of vulnerability on Kyo's part. And his Master, too. Maybe I also learned that hey, you should be forward with your feelings about people, because yo...more
Kyou's surrogate father and martial arts instructor appears to reveal the secret behind Kyou's true form and the real curse of the Cat. And yes, I still cried while reading that scene. I'm a little sad the scene from the anime where Shigure tries to apologize to Tohru for putting her through all of this isn't duplicated in the manga, but hey, I think we might get that scene later, once Shigure's really screwed with people's lives....In the meantime, I love the strength of Tohru's acceptance of...more
The young lady I work with was reading this series, which I knew of but had completely forgotten about over the years. So I've backtracked and will power through reading these light hearted romps. The interesting thing I find about the romantic comedy manga, is how successfully its done. If a traditional comic from the states tries to come within a country mile of emotional storylines, it ends up trashed in the end. (will have to think more about that) These stories don't have that problem, h...more

Really, there isn't a better way to describe this series (especially this volume). The characters are cute, the situations (minus the dramatic parts) are cute, and their reactions... CUTE! While that may not be enough for some readers, it's enough for many of us. And to be honest... the ones who aren't into cute really would never get into this series in the first place.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES!!!It's about a poor girl (Tohru) Gets taken in by the Sohma family. which the Sohma family has vengeful Chinese zodiac animal posses they Sohma family. ( they can be there selfs it's not like the spirits are controlling them) but every time they are touched by the opposite gender they turn into the zodiac animals. Shigure, turns into a dog (again they have control of their selves not the spirits) Kyo turn into a cat and something else but he keeps that a secret, and ...more

When I first started reading manga and graphic novels, I looked down on what I thought were the more "fluffy" romantic stories of shojo (girls') manga. I remember looking at a cover of Fruits Basket and thinking "I bet that's really silly." Now I have to eat my words--and I'm glad for it too! I can now understand why this series is "The number one selling shojo in America."
Fruits Basket is quite a complex story with well-developed characters, whose relationshi

Since adding all 23 of the books to my feed might be a pain (and mess up my reading challenge for the year), I'm adding this one. Book 6, wherein I cry huge gushy tears and am suddenly totally immersed into this story about Tohru and the Sohmas. I own the entire series, and read it two or three times a year, whenever I need to be reminded about love and forgiveness and acceptance and simple pleasures. I think these are my favorite books, even above all the Jane Austen.
Ohh.. Love it! Huh, kinda funny that Momiji's on the cover, but he's hardly mentioned in this one at all... anyways...
SPOILER ALERT!
Oh my gosh! I watched the anime.
I knew it was coming.
But still!
I love when Kyo changes into his "true form." so full of emotion. so amazing! (although it did seem a little short)
anyways, right now I have fruits basket #6-15, so i guess I'm gonna stay up all night reading them! Screw tomorrow's social studies ...more

I believe this is the first volume of the manga where the order starts to differ greatly from the anime. The volume starts off with what is the "ending" of the anime. I prefer the way it happened in the manga though; I didn't like some of the scenes that were added in the anime. The second half of the manga occurred earlier in the anime. (view spoiler)
Takaya really balances the seriousness and the funny very well. A good chunk of this volume is serious…and then we see Ayame, who’s over the top. I liked the volume as a whole, and of the 6 I’ve reviewed so far, this one is my favorite. Even though Tohru is scared of Kyo’s true form, and is clearly nauseated by the smell, she still goes running after him, and still accepts him for who he is. It’s a good lesson in accepting people for who they really are, for what they’re like inside, and not...more
Oh yay, now I see why people say the series gets better and a bit darker by the time book 6 rolls around. This was definitely the best one in the series, thanks to Kyo, of course. I still wouldn't say that I love the series and I might have to give up on it to make time for other books.
I was happy to finally get some better insight into Kyo, who up until reading this flopped between really irritating me and just being pretty unsympathetic. I always enjoy characters being fleshed out rather than just standing on their initial introductions.
Don't know if I liked the execution of Kyo's alternate form - however, the depths of the characters shown in this book really are wonderful. I hope Takaya keeps it up and keeps on delving deeper into the past, scars, and healings of the characters.
i don't think i could have reacted like tohru did when she found out kyo's secret. though, i wish i would. she is just too kind to be a real person. haha. i'm sure just about everone knows someone who is almost as kind as her though.
This was the first edition of fruits basket that I've read. i really liked it, and thats how i got more into Fruits Basket. it goes in deeper into Kyo's past, and the curse of cat. there's also more Kyo x torhu for all you fan girls out there ;)
LOVED IT!! I think this is my favorite one so far! I loved the whole scence where we saw Kyo's true form and then you also see Tohru's reaction! I can't wait to read more, must hunt down my friend Sophie and borrow the next few books! :)
Best drama, love, and funny japanes book i hav ever read... I love them so much that i have read up to her 18th book she has wrote in the series of her book!!!!!
Even though we didn't meet another Zodiac member, I really enjoyed where the story went. Especially Kyo's secret and Tohru's costume exploration. Cute.
Ah Kazuma, the series would be so different without you, wouldn't it? I love Kyo in every way shape and form, and I hope Tohru does too!
Book6. A big turning point. It has one of the best Tohru-Kyo moments. Kinda sad, but everything turns out okay in the end.
All the stories of the characters are interesting but I liked finding more out about Kyo.
it was O.K...yea...
BUT THERES ALSO MANGA THAT ARE SOO MUCH BETTER!!...yea....

In this book secrects about Kyo are revealed in his true form. Will tohru convince him to come home or will she lose him forever? Also, Yuki and Tohru go to his brother's shop for the first time and his assitant dresses tohru in something really pretty.
I was really SURPRIZED AND SHOCKED when Kyo's true form was shown. I thought it was a touching moment between him and Tohru. It's a little scary but it's a good thing it happened. Plus it's has moments for Yuki and Tohru toward the end, and...more
