Toru is my favorite Mary Sue ever. She's perfect, loving, pretty, sees the good in everything, and everyone instantly loves her ---- she is indeed a Mary Sue. But I forgive her for it and accept it because she makes me so happeh.
This was a strange, strange manga volume for me, friends.
As I mentioned way at the beginning of this increasingly terrifying adventure, I am addicted to the Fruits Basket television series.
And I had been working under the assumption that the books, to a certain extent, followed the plot of the show.
So you can imagine my confusion when volume six of a twenty-plus series suddenly starts following the plot of the final episode.
Because I would have thought they would have waited on that. Until the...more

If you are a fan of the Fruits Basket anime series and have watched all the episodes, this volume is were the final episode ends. This volume was crazy good!
Technically this is at the very end of the volume but I want to get to all the Kyo stuff so: Ayame is still trying to build a relationship with Yuki. Yuki decides to go to Ayame’s shop and he takes Tohru with him. They are in for some big surprises. There's not a big Oprah moment when everyone all of a sudden gets each other, but you can see...more

another cute manga!!! i was very surprised at how fast the anime ended compared to the manga! this would have been the last book if the anime followed to the end of furuba!!! this volume is one of my favorites because it made me cry!! kyo is one of my favorite characters and it hurt me to see him like that!!! i'm so glad that throughout all the pain and sadness it ended happily! and it makes me laugh that throughout all the drama, shigure is always in a good mood!!! haha! i was thinking about th...more

Five stars... did you expect anything less? Especially in this volume? Man... this volume was very, very, VERY hard to get through. It was extremely sad... you wouldn't think it because of the cover but it's true! The cover is a bit misleading. (Don't get me wrong. I love Momiji! He's so adorable but with what happens within the volume... yeah... you'll be like, "How can something so horrible be inside something so cute!?") It's THAT depressing. Sure, it has a great ending... BUT THAT DOESN'T MA...more
This is the volume I've been waiting for and I didn't think it would show up so soon. I've watched the anime so I already knew what was going to happen, but I was excited to get to it anyway. I imagine this will jump start the relationship between Kyo and Tohru. At least, I hope it will.
I was impressed with how this was handled. I think it's so easy to make manga silly to the point that the serious parts don't shine through. This one is nearly the opposite. There's plenty of comic relief, but I...more

Ah! I believe I'm almost heading into the unknown! *blinks* Though I can remember more things that've happened... so I've not reached where I was last quite yet.
Best volume so far. Best volume so far! There was so much Kyo... it was wonderful... Kyo's past is really something. There's not much else I can say, except most of this volume was really heart wrenching. Tohru and Kyo! *sniff* Kyo's so adorable as a child... or just, like, now. The biggest story arc in this volume is the visit by Kyo's Master and his revealing Kyo's biggest secret to Tohru (his secret form) in hopes that Kyo will realize he's happy and healing at Shigure's home and can't run away to live with him. I really liked this part because it answered one question I had about Kyo's real form, and it showed a lot of vulnerability on Kyo's part. And his Master, too. Maybe I also learned that hey, you should be forward with your feelings about people, because you c...more

Kyou's surrogate father and martial arts instructor appears to reveal the secret behind Kyou's true form and the real curse of the Cat. And yes, I still cried while reading that scene. I'm a little sad the scene from the anime where Shigure tries to apologize to Tohru for putting her through all of this isn't duplicated in the manga, but hey, I think we might get that scene later, once Shigure's really screwed with people's lives....In the meantime, I love the strength of Tohru's acceptance of t...more
The young lady I work with was reading this series, which I knew of but had completely forgotten about over the years. So I've backtracked and will power through reading these light hearted romps. The interesting thing I find about the romantic comedy manga, is how successfully its done. If a traditional comic from the states tries to come within a country mile of emotional storylines, it ends up trashed in the end. (will have to think more about that) These stories don't have that problem, heck...more

- I'm glad we got to learn more about Kyo in this one. He seems like such a complicated person.
- Is the cat the only one with another form? Why is that? How does that work? Do the beads prevent him from changing? I'm so confused!
- After reading this issue, I feel like I just have more questions about everyone!
- This whole love triangle is really irking me! I think Tohru has so much to offer both Yuki and Kyo.
- The boys in this manga are pretty dramatic. They are even more dramatic than the girls...more

Urgh, well I knew this volume was coming, the one which reveals Kyo's true form. I hated it in the Anime and I hate it still in the Manga - it seems to have no correlation with the earlier tone of the story or even the story itself (almost stands as an independent spin-off story it's so divided), I can only presume the author got a bit bored and decided to try her hand at the science fiction genre, when she should stick to what she does best. I'd recommend missing this one altogether and going s...more
Really, there isn't a better way to describe this series (especially this volume). The characters are cute, the situations (minus the dramatic parts) are cute, and their reactions... CUTE! While that may not be enough for some readers, it's enough for many of us. And to be honest... the ones who aren't into cute really would never get into this series in the first place.

I think this volume was just a huge eye opener in the Kyo area...
That's so sad, he has that true form that no one seems to except, well apart from a few people. I think the woman in his memories was his mother, which is sooo sad with the way she treated him. I'm glad Tohru accepts him though, out of Kyo and Yuki, I can't help but have Kyo as my favorite. That last chapter with Ayame's shop (that didn't really surprise me) felt a bit unnecessary. Kinda like it was just there to even out all that...more

Fans of the first book and manga fans; my friends
I really loved the story involving Kyo in this volume. Although I am still not sure whether I think Yuki or Kyo are best for Tohru-kun, I think both of them are very beautiful. I read this volume in an hour or so and did not put it down once. The story is just so entertaining. I don't think there is one character that I do not have an interest in.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES!!!It's about a poor girl (Tohru) Gets taken in by the Sohma family. which the Sohma family has vengeful Chinese zodiac animal posses they Sohma family. ( they can be there selfs it's not like the spirits are controlling them) but every time they are touched by the opposite gender they turn into the zodiac animals. Shigure, turns into a dog (again they have control of their selves not the spirits) Kyo turn into a cat and something else but he keeps that a secret, and...more

When I first started reading manga and graphic novels, I looked down on what I thought were the more "fluffy" romantic stories of shojo (girls') manga. I remember looking at a cover of Fruits Basket and thinking "I bet that's really silly." Now I have to eat my words--and I'm glad for it too! I can now understand why this series is "The number one selling shojo in America."
Fruits Basket is quite a complex story with well-developed characters, whose relationships run the gamut from outright h

Since adding all 23 of the books to my feed might be a pain (and mess up my reading challenge for the year), I'm adding this one. Book 6, wherein I cry huge gushy tears and am suddenly totally immersed into this story about Tohru and the Sohmas. I own the entire series, and read it two or three times a year, whenever I need to be reminded about love and forgiveness and acceptance and simple pleasures. I think these are my favorite books, even above all the Jane Austen.
Ohh.. Love it! Huh, kinda funny that Momiji's on the cover, but he's hardly mentioned in this one at all... anyways...
SPOILER ALERT!
Oh my gosh! I watched the anime.
I knew it was coming.
But still!
I love when Kyo changes into his "true form." so full of emotion. so amazing! (although it did seem a little short)
anyways, right now I have fruits basket #6-15, so i guess I'm gonna stay up all night reading them! Screw tomorrow's social studies test!

I believe this is the first volume of the manga where the order starts to differ greatly from the anime. The volume starts off with what is the "ending" of the anime. I prefer the way it happened in the manga though; I didn't like some of the scenes that were added in the anime. The second half of the manga occurred earlier in the anime. (view spoiler)
Takaya really balances the seriousness and the funny very well. A good chunk of this volume is serious…and then we see Ayame, who’s over the top. I liked the volume as a whole, and of the 6 I’ve reviewed so far, this one is my favorite. Even though Tohru is scared of Kyo’s true form, and is clearly nauseated by the smell, she still goes running after him, and still accepts him for who he is. It’s a good lesson in accepting people for who they really are, for what they’re like inside, and not to...more
