Abby Cahill only wanted a couple of nice quiet months while working as the Director of Nursing in a hospital in Blackberry Hill during the summer. But then the apartment she was supposed to stay in burned down and during tourist season it isn’t exactly easy to find another place to stay on short notice. Luckily for Abby, Ethan Matthews, a local, reluctantly offers her one of his cabins in exchange for some help around his farm, the house and with his son, Kiefer. Ethan, a wildlife biol...more

First I must admit that Roxanne Rustand is a friend, but I can say honestly that this book is a gem. It's from Roxanne's years of writing for Harlequin SuperRomance so it's includes an obligatory love scene; however if you blink, you'll miss it. I blinked because I actually thought it was unnecessary to the deeply emotional and touching story of these two wounded hearts and a precious little boy.
I also appreciated the setting of the novel, my neck of the northwoods. Roxanne captured much of the...more

When Abby Cahill is evicted from her rented room, she lands at Ethan Matthews' farm. But she's not looking for an attachment and the solitary biologist who seems to shun others. He on the other hand, finds himself more attracted to the city-raised nurse than he cares to admit. In fact, it's beginning to feel a little too much like home.

Having been jilted just a few months before her wedding, nurse Abby Cahill accepts a temporary job as Director of Nursing at a hospital in Blackberry Hill, Wisconsin. It’s strictly a summer job filling in between the retirement of one director and the arrival of another before Abby moves on a to new job and a new life in California. She isn’t interested in any ties to Blackberry Hill. But when a fire destroys the apartment she had rented and she’s evicted from the replacement apartment because s...more

I enjoyed the story and the characters, I just wish the ending hadn't been so ... abrupt. I would rate this at 3 1/2 stars. Sorry if this is vague but I don't want to ruin it for anyone. I would have liked to know just a little more about the situation and how things were settled.
It was nice to read main characters who didn't fall into convenient stereotypical behaviors and the same with one of the antagonists (who was a bit of a surprise). Also, I really liked the descriptions of the area they...more

This book was fun though a bit sporadic. It went in a few directions that I hadn't expected it to go. The plot was nice and fun, but didn't get very deeply into backgrounds or emotions. I think there was just so much plot that were wasn't as much room for depth. Abby is a fun, independent woman. Ethan is a great dad and a sweet man once you get past his gruff exterior. I enjoyed this book, though it was a much lighter read, focusing more on the adventure of the outdoors and cruelty to/protection...more

I was a bit confused at the beginning of this book. I couldn't understand HOW, the woman has the 3 kids with her and arrives at the hospital, then leaves the hospital with another kid and goes and stays the night at his house. Where did the other 3 kids go? Since I got this as an ARC copy, maybe I missed a page or something. I don't know.
I was a good book. There was a nice mystery thrown in to round out the book. If I wasn't confused near the start of the book I would have rated it higher.
