"He was beautiful and exotic and dangerous, all of which made him sexy as sin."

DEADLY DESCENDANT was absolutely AMAZING! For the life of me, I just could not put this book down. I couldn't until I flipped to the last page and STILL, I WANTED MORE! The Nikki Glass Series is one of my favorite new Urban Fantasy series and I am impressed at how much I am crazy for this series!

DEADLY DESCENDANT picks up right where Dark Descendant left off. Nikki is adjusting to life an immortal and learning more a...more

I'll write a review soonish (maybe?) But I gotta say one thing: Nikki and Jamaal. NIKKI AND JAMAAL. NIKKI AND FUCKING JAMAAL. *screams* I need the next one STAT, for my sanity and the well being of others.
Roxanne
Nikki you are a bad-ass and if I ever turn to girls you'll be first on my list babe.

Jamaal, I am so glad I am straight. Even though you are a little unstable and can kill people with a thought you are still sexy as hell. Call me.

Honest to god truth...I would kill someones mother to get my hands on the next book.

The 2nd installment to the Nikki Glass series! I have read Ms. Black's Morgan Kingsley series and was hesitant with this one....but so far Nikki is amazing :)

Nikki & Jamaal
So it was obvious after the first book that something along the romance side would develop between these two. Jamaal goes from hating Nikki to friendship in this book. It's a tense frienship as they're learning to open up and trust each other....but it's a very good frienship for both of them. They are so much alike that...more

It is possible to like something problematic as long as I acknowledge the problems.

So that's what I'm starting with this time.

The first book had played around with a dotted-lines-love-triangle with Nikki in the center and Anderson and Jamaal at the opposite corners.

(view spoiler)[

The direction that Jenna Black took was Nikki having a preference for inappropriate and/or unavailable men, which meant she could've gone either way: Anderson, pining for his wife who had gone insane during her impriso

Deadly Descendant by Jenna Black

Nikki Glass is a former private eye who suddenly became a Liberi, a quasi-immortal. Her change to more than human has required more sacrifices than she expected. He acclimation to the side she has chosen in a millennium long conflict and her conflicted emotions about being part of a team are the focus of this second book in a very good series.

I mentioned in my review of Dark Descendant, Niki is a likeable character. She is not some invulnerable super hero, she is...more

I don't know how she did it but every book wrote by Jenna Black I ever read were a page-tuner. As well as this one. When I looked at the page number I was already at page 70.

I first read Dark Descendant, the first book of this series, last month. I almost went berserk when my local book store didn't have this book at the store I decided to order it online for it was faster. While I was reading the first book I couldn't wait to know who would be Nikki's love interest I had to google it. (never di...more

I had a lot of high expectations for Deadly Descendant. The first installment was a hit. I loved it from the beginning to the end: the premise, the characters, the plot.

The book got me excited and that feeling had been eluding me of late. So, I held my breath as a flipped to the prologue of Deadly Descendant. And I kept holding it. I was all in from page 2. So, I had to quickly put it out of reach, as I had HW and was finishing up the last few things of teaching for the year, etc.

But when I retu...more

I was pretty quick to pick up DARK DESCENDANT, the first Nikki Glass novel, when it came out last year even though Jenna Black has been hit or miss for me in the past. I thought the world she created sounded like a lot of fun and for the most part, it was. I was quite excited to see DEADLY DESCENDANT when it arrived in the mail a little while ago because I wanted to know what was going to happen to Nikki next.

In this amazing world, there are people descended from gods from all of the pantheons a...more

I almost bit off my little sisters finger when she tried to get me to stop reading this. Before starting I had totally forgotten my love for all things Jamaal. Not to worry though. It's back. Forever.
Not to mention this one had more of Jack. I love it. I freaking love it! Turns out he's got a good guy buried under all the trickery. *sigh*

Setting aside my unnatural attraction to fictional characters I have to rave about the actual story too.
When I opened Deadly Descendant I only meant to read th...more

I really wanted to like this book, I really did. I find the world fascinating and the writing is solid but I dislike the main character intensely.

I don't know if she's actually a hypocrite or if she just rubbed me the wrong way but I found it very unfair that she held everyone to these impossible standards and expected them to live up to it without knowing *why* they wanted to keep secrets but then when it comes to her it's different. I think normally I'd let her issue with her mother slide bec...more

Jenna Black has a flair for Paranormal stories, and she has created a believable world that tells of a legacy from the Gods. When the Gods left our world they could not take the children of their matings with mortal women with them. So they took a seed from the tree of life and every child who bears that seed is immortal. Her client, knowing the only way an immortal can be killed is by a human related through genealogy to any deity. And that's just what happens to Nikki Glass Private Investigato...more

I was very excited when I started to read this second installment of the series. I slipped back into this world seamlessly, not having too much trouble remembering the story from the previous book, about how Nikki finds out she is a descendent of Artemis, and immortal, as a result of killing (accidentally by her, but on purpose by the victim) one of her clients. I like the worldbuilding, and the mythology. I even liked the apparent love interest, and the current mystery about a descendent of Anu...more

Nikki Glass is a descendant of the goddess Artemis which makes her a rare commodity amongst the Liberis (descendants of different gods/goddesses). Nikki is able to locate anyone, even those who don’t want to be found and her aim is impeccable…a straight shooter who never misses her target. Nikki been living with Anderson and his group of Liberis for the past couple of weeks, and is still trying to wrap her head around being an offspring of a goddess, figuring out her moon powers, and being somew...more

I loved Jenna Black's Morgan Kingsley series, but this series is even more enjoyable. Demons are interesting, but I find the old gods far more fascinating. Which is why I cannot resist authors like P.C. Cast, Rick Riordan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Kevin Hearne and Jenna Black, who give the old gods from mythology a role in their books whether in person or as the god or goddess from whom leading and/or secondary characters are descended. Black's descendants have unique powers that are wanted by both the...more

4.5 stars - Life has changed forever for PI Nikki Glass since she discovered that she's a descendant of the goddess Artemis and gained her immortality, but even though she's aligned herself with the 'good' descendants who include a death goddess descendant who recently wanted her dead, an Eros descendant who can wield sex as a weapon, and a Loki descendant who's a pain in the tail, Nikki's still not feeling like part of the team - and if the team leader's wife has her way, Nikki's not going to b...more

Nikki Glass is a descendant of the goddess Artemis. She is also a private investigator - which makes her quite good at finding things. Hellhounds are attacking people which is a problem for both the Olympians and Liberi. Nikki must find & stop the descendant who is behind the attacks - before both fractions are exposed.

The first book in this series, Dark Descendant was a surprise read for me last year. I loved it more than I thought I would. So, when book two arrived I was really excited to...more

I picked up Deadly Descendant last week at the library, kind of randomly as I sometimes do, and I wasn’t disappointed this time.

The story

Nikki is a private investigator who’s a descendant of the goddess Artemis, making her not only a great shot with any kind of thrown weapon, but also awesome at finding and tracking people. Useful skills to have as a PI, if you ask me.

When a new descendant appears in the DC area, sending a pack of enraged dogs after innocent bystanders, Nikki must investigate wi...more

3.5 Stars. Well, I remarked in my review of Dark Descendant that I wanted more of Jamaal, and happily in this book I got my wish. Nikki is very much still the outsider with the Liberi; but her tenuous relationship with Jamaal is getting stronger and more personal. He looks to be her love interest for the series on down the line.

Anderson sends Nikki out to solve a serial killer mystery. Turns out it's a Liberi who is a death god descendant and controls a pack of Jackals who do his dirty work. Hon...more

Less happened in this one, but at the same time OH SO MUCH MORE happened.

Emma was an effing bitch that I wanted to kill myself. Yeah she went through some horrible stuff, but oh my god she was unreasonable when it came to Nikki which was really annoying. I disliked how we never got an answer as to what set her against Nikki, other than just her mere presence. I'm sorry but if a woman is so insecure that she can't have other women around her husband without automatically assuming that woman is a...more

I completely enjoyed this book. Nikki hasn't been an immortal for long but she has already found some significant information. She has also made some significant enemies. Now there is an immortal out there attacking men once a week with a pack of dogs...or at least that is what the Olympians are saying and what the news is reporting. Now, Nikki has to track this guy down and stop him before more innocent lives were lost.
I still like Nikki. She is a kick butt character with lots of spunk and dete...more

First off I have to say I really enjoy reading this book from Nikki's point of view. Nikki reminds me a lot of Cat from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series. Jenna Black writes this series in first person so the reader can go into the mind of Nikki and read what she is thinking. Nikki doesn't put up with much and I find her sarcasm quite funny at times. :)

I liked the plot of the book. The "wild dog" attacks kept the book moving at a fast pace. The story line had plenty of twists and turns that...more

Deadly Descendant takes on the same easy pace as its predecessor, Dark Descendant, but with more heat, action, and emotion! Jenna Black gives readers a greater look into some of Nikki's Liberi housemates, especially, Jamaal. Jamaal is a very out of control character and completely mysterious in the first book, so it's intriguing to see him slightly open up and drop his guard around Nikki.

The assignment Nikki is handed in Deadly Descendant is creepy and just a little shy of downright scary! The c...more

It was incredibly easy to slip back into Black's world and for the most part the story moved along well. The mystery element was a little light, but the plot kept me involved enough that I didn't mind.

Note: Liberi are descendants of gods from various pantheons. Olympians are elitist and purists; only descendants of Greek gods are worthy of living and basically humans should worship/serve Olympians. Very little time has passed since the opening pages of the first book, so Nikki is still adjusting...more

I don't know what to say about this one, I had such high hopes after the first book but this one fell a little short. If I'm honest it should probably be rated about 3.5Stars.

I can't quite put my finger on what was wrong about it but I think the "love interest" part didn't help. It felt forced, as if it was just there because there had to be someone, it didn't feel like a natural progression at all.

That said I still love the world, I'm enjoying getting to know the other character's and I'm sti...more

Wow, seems I've fallen behind a bit on my reviewing. Well, here goes on an epic trawl to catch up. Unfortunately though, that does mean that yes, I have forgotten quite a bit about this book - it's been a whole month and near ten books since I read this. However, I do remember my general feelings for it, so here goes. An entertaining Four Stars.

Plot : Four Stars

I wondered after the last book where she was going to go with this. Seemed she'd pushed the boundaries pretty far in her first book to g...more

This book moved along and was better written than the first in the series.

Characters in book are dull and unintersting and most of the time they are also annoying. Emma is only person, whose personality is some what realistic, but Black writed her as bad guy, which lessers her effectivity.

Plot of book is absolute mesh, caused by author trying to write backstaping and political ploting, but I must say that plots and other the struggle for power feel like person are very childish insted of something what hundred and thousand years old persons would invent. Which kills a...more

Jenna Black is your typical writer. Which means she's an "experience junkie." She got her BA in physical anthropology and French from Duke University.

Once upon a time, she dreamed she would be the next Jane Goodall, camping in the bush making fabulous discoveries about primate behavior. Then, during her senior year at Duke, she did some actual research in the field and made this shocking discovery...more
