As is the case with Ani's previous (un)cookbooks, _Ani's Raw Food Asia__ is much more than a collection of raw food recipes. It's a guide for living a balanced and meaningful life--which, of course, is fueled by raw food.
In addition to offering relatively easy raw Asian-American fusion recipes for drinks, salads, dressing, condiments, sides, soups, curries, rolls, wraps, pancakes, noodles, rice, and desserts, Ani's book also provides interesting and insightful essays on lifestyl...more

I'm not a raw-foodist, or a vegan but I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate more well-rounded raw meals into my diet so I got this book from the library for some ideas. As I had figured, many of these recipes are way too labor intensive for me to consider making and a lot of the interesting ones require hours of dehydrating to mimic something you could do in 30 seconds in a hot pan (I get that it's not the point, but since I'm only going for 50-75% raw foods it seems a little silly)....more

I love sushi. It was my junior year in high school on a culinary club field trip when a friend introduced me. I was completely skeptical at first, but after my first bit I never looked back. So when I heard about an Asian cookbook I jumped for the chance to review it dreaming about sushi. While I was mistaken by my concept of the word "raw", I was not disappointed. Ani's Raw Food Asia: Easy East-West Fusion Recipes the Raw Food Way is a cultural experience. It is not just a cookbook, but a geogr...more
Great recipes, if you love Asian food. Note for those with food sensitivities: there is a LOT of sesame, quite a bit of coconut, and a lot of nama shoyu- all to be expected, of course, in an Asian (un)cookbook. I think the coconut and the shoyu can be avoided or substituted, but I'm not sure there is a good substitute for sesame. I'm going to try a few recipes and will let you know if I have any brilliant substitutions :)
