In the interest of a "balanced" view, I decided to read one of the so-called critiques of Dawkin's excellent "The God Delusion". It was dreadful. Poorly argued, very little to recommend it.

The fundamental problem with it is that none of its arguments gets anywhere unless you have already accepted the basic assumption that is the grounds of all faith.

My mother gave me this in response to my giving Dad The God Delusion and so I gave it a read. It's arguments are very weak. The author spends probably 90% of the book talking about Dawkins being wrong and never really justifies this. He gives a few arguments but even the most casual of logicians would see they rest on entirely circular logic. All in all I expected better (but I really don't know why). One of his key arguments is that because Dawkins rejects the supernatural he must be wrong. Lol ...more
