Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo.

Even though this book in the beginning is a replica of Twilight. It changed throughout so that by the end it's not anymore. So far it's just as captivating.

Things seemed to happen to move too fast for me (mostly just the end) and some parts were predictable but others weren't.

Overall, it's a good love story about a girl who falls in love with a vampire and the struggles they have to go through to be together [even though the ending of the book leaves something in this sentence to be debated but...more

I was unsure in after the first couple of chapters I was thinking this was a Twilight redo, BUT I was wrong! This book went somewhere completley different....Don't get me wrong, there's still un-dying love and a girl who thinks she's undeserving...but somewhere after the first chapter it turned on me. I couldn't put it down....what was Bo going to do? How would Trinity get revenge? Was Drew giving up with out a fight? All my questions had to answered before I put the book down....then M, Leighto...more

Mainly a mixture of theories taken a li'i from Twilight Saga, Vampire Diaries and My Blood Approves (by: Amanda Hocking)... But this part is already even been confessed in the book by the character of living in 'fantasy vampire stories'. Well this was the instant reaction coming in mind in the starting, but as you go deeper in the story, it shockingly turns out to be better than the repetitive love triangles which are usually the basic fabric of the whole series of such kind; "two supernatural c...more

M. Leighton brings a different twist to the typical young-adult vampire love story.

While we are all used to the typical girl meets cute mysterious boy, but soon realizes something is different about him story, For the Love of a Vampire adds a interesting twist. Bo's father was killed a while ago and now he's out for revenge, but the act of the revenge itself is literally killing him.

I liked that Bo wasn't a happy-go-lucky kind of guy. He's a bit dark and a lot mysterious, but he's actually a g...more

Well, this is a pretty much average teen vampire read. It somewhat reads as Twilight fan fiction with all that, “you should stay away from me, I’m not good for you” stuff. I had a hard time believing certain situation (view spoiler)[ like the one where Ridley stood up to Trinity’s bullying Savannah. After years biting her tongue in fear of losing scholarship for college it’s ridiculous to believe she would have a change of heart and risk it all of a sudden because a boy she likes told her she’s...more

Ok so i'm not done reading twilight yet....*cough. I mean Blood like poison, but so far this is what i have from it. It's definitely not a bad book i was just wishing for more originality. Curse Stephanie Meyer and this trend that she's begun. I won't even pretend like i am not an avid Twilight fan or at least that i wasn't an avid twilight fan but i will defend myself by informing everyone of my age at that time. I was...what 19 maybe younger. I was obsessed with love and i didn't care what pac...more

Blood Like Poison is a trilogy series that centers the around Ridley, a oridinary seventeen year old girl. She puts up with a horny boyfriend, bitchy cheerleader "friends", and trying to figure out the new mysterious creepy stalker guy, Bo. When Bo finally decides to open up, Ridley learns some secrets that just may be life-altering! Bo, is in fact a vampire! Yikes! (In a good way!)

I really wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I thought I would. It is nice to be pleasantly surprised. This book was fast-paced and very engaging from the get-go. So much that I was half way through it when I'd realized it was one in the morning and I needed to go to bed!

Brief synopsis: Captain of the cheerleading squad falls for the brooder with a dark secret. Dangerous situations unfold and though much of her book sounds like a Twilight rehash, I found this particular vampire to be m...more

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Uhhh excuse while my fluttery teenage heart stops beating so loud so that I can type… now on with the review!

Ok here is the list of all the awesome things about this amazing book….

1. Ridley actually develops throughout the story. When Bo entered her life she became a better person and *SPOILER* I loved that scene when she totally stood up to Trinity;)

2. The take on vampires in this story, I never heard of their bodies turning themselves basically invisible...more

I give this book 4.5 stars! I was really suprised with this book, didn't know what to expect, and for a second I was a bit afraid that it would have similarities to Twilight and I was praying, please don't let it be another Twilight-vampire-story! This book was anything but that, it had another take on Vampire Romance! The heroin, Ridley didn't disappoint, and Bo the love intrest was well...something else! Do you love an awesome vampire romance? Well, M. Leighton has the book for you!

This is a tale of star - crossed lovers. Two people that should stay away from one another at all costs only fate has other plans for them. Both of them have been given a second chance at life but with a great cost. Both understand loss and sacrifice, selflessness and true love.

I was hooked on this book from the first few pages. Right off the bat I adored Ridley and was sympathetic to her approach to cope with her cr...more

Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo.

In Ridley’s wildest dreams, she could never have planned for someone like Bo, for a love so intense it left her breathless. No human girl could.

The prologue of this book begins with the main character, Ridley, talking about this boy, Bo, who has changed her life and taught her blah, blah, blah. So I'm thinking, okay, we'll see how much he really teaches you as the book progresses. Turns out he teaches her that she needs to be herself and stand up for what she thinks is right; but mostly he just changes her from being a girl focused on doing everything she can to get into Stanford to a girl that can think about nothing and BE nothing wit...more

Urg, 1 star - that's a bit harsh. Maybe it should be 1.5 star.
I mean, I did not hate it .. I just did not like it .. at all!

Anyway, let's begin with the good stuff.

It was really fast paced and an easy read, it did not take me long to finish this book .. so there is that.

However, too many things stood in the way for me to like this book. And I feel really horrible about giving it 1 (and a half) star, because it is a bit harsh, and I do like to look at all the good stuff instead of all the bad...more

"Yes, life is all about pain and trouble and frustration and anger, but it’s also about love and friendship and good days and sunshine. You can’t have one without the other. If you avoid pain, you avoid living."

A new twist on Vampires.

Ridley Heller is in her last year of high school. She only has to continue to be who she is until she gets her scholarship to Stanford. All of the torture of pretending is worth it as long as she gets into Stanford. That’s her mission, get through Nine months. Nin...more

Beautiful.
This book is fantastic. So emotive and amazing.
Ridley and Bo were just incredible. I admired Ridley when she stood up to Trinity, and I just loved Bo. The author has given such great characters and personalities to both of them that almost convinced me that they were real. True love, self-discovery. It's one of the most beautiful, moving and engaging books I've ever read. Oh, and I cried. I cried at so many scenes. Couldn't help it. You can't not like Bo and Ridley. There was a bond be...more
Joy (joyous reads)
This book is highly typical of any vampire/human romance books I've ever read; where the girl is incredibly drawn to the mysteriously dark, brooding newcomer. So the story proceeds on like it should, wherein I fought off the urge to call it a Twilight copycat. But as I delve deeper into the story, I found that For the Love of a Vampire has its unique twists on the legends and the myths of this highly overused breed of monsters in the literary mainstream.

Ridley's been going through life like a dr...more

While paranormal romances seem to be such a big hit in the YA fiction market, it's really hard to find a book with Vampires that doesn't have the same cliched story line as Twilight. M. Leighton's novel, For the Love of a Vampire, for the most part, succeeds in getting out of the shadows of the more famous novel.

Leighton's cast of characters seem more true to life. Main character, Ripley, is way less of a "Mary Sue" than Meyer's ridiculously one track minded Bella, she actually has true to life...more

First off, let me say I was really excited to read this book because of all the great reviews. Unfortunately, I am one of the very few that really didn't like it. It wasn't absolutely horrible, but it was bad enough that I won't be reading the rest of the series.

To begin with, Ridley (what a name?) had her priorities all screwed up. I found this character made one wrong choice after another. I just couldn't connect with her at all. Why on earth would anyone get into a vehicle with the ex-boyfri...more

M. Leighton creates an enticing sexy romance between Ridley and Bo. This isn't your average vampire romance but creates a new mythology that I haven't encountered before. Bo is the most amazing hero who is intense, romantic and protective. Bo takes Ridley's life by storm upsetting her carefully planned escape from her life where she is just biding her time until she can escape her small town to Stanford. Ridley's life is very pretend and she seems to just keep going through the motions with her...more

My Cover Thoughts: I love the cover! It is of a guy kissing a girl and you can see the passion on his face as he holds her tight to him. No one can come between them…. Ever….

My Thoughts/Review: OMG I absolutely love vampire stories but this one has a twist to it that leaves you speechless! I started reading this book as a recommendation from an author friend Shelly Crane and I was not disappointed.

Ridley is a senior in high school who justs wants to get a scholarship to Stanford and leave her t...more

This book was actually pretty darn good. I was a little worried from what people were saying about it being just a rip off of twilight, but it really wasn't. I do see where some people were saying that, because I mean, you have a vampire who captivates this girl, and she is totally taken with him and his mysterious self. But the whole story line is different, with different problems and a different love.

I really liked the problems that were faced in this book. Of all the vampire books I have rea...more

Oh my God! Ridley is the most frustrating and confusing heroine ever!
She is soooo like Nora in Hush-Hush, she can't even decide what she wants! And her indecisions make me wants to throttle her. Come on, Rid, why don't you just tell Bo you love him from the start and save me the headache.

And I don't really like Bo's name. Calling him Jonathan is one thing, but Bo is another matter. Bo sounds...weird. Actually he's a very nice guy, and the story is not very boring by any means, it's decent and pr...more

At first when I started to read this book I thought "oh no, it's another vampire book, Ggrrr." so just out of curiosity I kept reading and thank the heavens I did because I was so surprised and amazed with this book I had to buy the next one.......and then the next one. As the story went on I found that I really could get in to the story. I was so into the story I was up late at night and was reluctant to put the book down so I could sleep. I even found my self reading while I was in class. (and...more

I purchased this book on Amazon on my kindle for $0.99 and was very happy for my purchase.

I'll give this one 3.5 stars. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book. And, I look forward to reading the next installment whenever it comes out (unless it's already out?).

I would say the only complaint I had about this book was that the author makes reference to popular music and movies. She names them by song name and artist,, which then immediately dates the story. And the thing is, thi...more

I started this one with an open mind since it was free and based on the file size, a long novella.

The problems started from jump -- I was having Twilight flashbacks. I could not separate the heroine, Ridley, from Bella. The two heroines are not similar in their highschool realities but both were ripe for a stange vampirish boy to make them tingle in chemistry class. Eventually, Ridley moved up a few pegs in my mind and I grew to like her for her own possibilities but it was a near thing for the...more

When I first started reading I thought: this book seems familiar, girl meets boy-instant attraction and love-boy turns out to be vampire.... great just like Twilight. Then I was like: well at least Ridley isn't a whiner-she's just a sheep in the high school game, but has much more confidence and strength from the get go; at least Bo isn't brooding all the time and has been recently turned into a vampire (but really, I love my brooding vampire and whiney girl and I didn't want to replace them!)....more

I picked up For the Love of a Vampire: Blood Like Poison because it happened to be free on Amazon and I have a kindle app on my phone. Not to mention that M. Leighton is a pretty fabulous person. But up until this moment, I had yet to read anything thing by her. And the minute I dived into this book I knew I would have to read more of her stuff. I mean for goodness sake...she referenced Keith Stone and Damon Salvatore in the same stinkin sentence. Yep, a woman after my own heart.
