This was not an easy read. Most of it was heartbreaking and like a punch to the stomach. The self-loathe Sam has for himself is really painful to read about. I loved the book though. The author took a very serious subject and handled it with sensitivity and attention and without placing blame on this or that person in Sam's life. ZOMG! I LOVED this book! I won't go into all the reasons and bore anyone or spoil it but suffice it to say that the only reason it didn't get a 5 was because it dragged in some places in my opinion. But that's minor and some people prefer a long, long, drawn out book sometimes too.
“Starving for Love” is the angst-filled account of an outcast teenage boy’s struggles with mental illness & alienation from his own family, while he also comes to terms with his sexual orientation, & the fact that he’s in love with his male best friend. This story really resonated with me. I so loved Sam, the main character, who affects a typically Goth exterior but inside is this endearingly sweet, uncertain boy, who tugged at my heartstrings.
