Australia must be very hot & dry based on the details of many of these stories. I enjoyed this introduction to a wide variety of Australian writers and look forward to reading more by many of them.

Recommends it for: You should read Australian literature.
Shelves: fiction, aussie
Neat little book. I'm sure there are better Aussie anthologies out there, but I found this one agreeable. There are gems: my favorites are "You Gave Me Hyacinths," "Life of the Party," and "The O'Dowds at Home" (the latter by Nobel Prize laureate Patrick White). Some stories lack sophistication, but overall it's worthwhile.

Aussie lit is something I'd like to know better.
