Ok first let me address the simple editing errors that have driven me nuts in this series book after book. Getting names wrong for the characters that are being thought of or spoken to or anything is really annoying. I don't get how we can be in book 3 and still have these problems please seriously get an editor to do a thorough job.

Ok onto the story. I found the reactions of Caitlin a bit....premature? I surely would have heard Caleb out before assuming the worst.

I have really enjoyed the story so far which kind of suprises me. Caitlin Paine begins this novel as a full vampire turned by the one she loves Caleb. She acts like a teenage girl overeacting to seeing Caleb and his wife Sera together. She will accept no explaination and she forces Caleb to leave. He leaves her on Pollepel, which is an island in the middle of the Hudson river. She is to recover and train on Pollepel to be a warrior. Being part three of the Vampire Journals by Morgan Rice this book turned out to be more like an episode than a part of a series. It's safe to say that one should start reading with the first part to fully appreciate the story. While I did get an idea of what must have happened before, I felt I missed too much about previous events when I was suddenly thrown into the middle of vampire covens fighting and humans being "turned".

Much like with the second book in this series, "Loved", I find myself conflicted about how I truly feel about it. On the one hand I found myself enjoying the (majority of) characters much more in this book than I had in the earlier books (seriously, I never thought that I would find myself sympathizing, let almost actually like Sera, Caitlin's nemesis/ Caleb's ex, but I did- nor did I ever expect to find myself liking Sam once again). However, on the other hand, I found...more ***May contain spoilers***

Much like with the second book in this series, "Loved", I find myself conflicted about how I truly feel about it. On the one hand I found myself enjoying the (majority of) characters much more in this book than I had in the earlier books (seriously, I never thought that I would find myself sympathizing, let almost actually like Sera, Caitlin's nemesis/ Caleb's ex, but I did- nor did I ever expect to find myself liking Sam once again). However, on the other hand, I found the plot of this book to be be cliched, and dare I say it, "Twilight"-esque (I absolutely hate playing the "Twilight" card, but what transpires at the end of this book is totally reminiscent of "Breaking Dawn"), while in the earlier books the plot had, in my opinion, been quite unique.

As mentioned, I found myself liking the majority of characters much more in this book than the others, however, Caitlin was not one of them. In my review of "Turned" I stated that I believed that Caitlin had the potential to be a really kick-ass female character, much like Merit, Dru, or Rose, however, after having read this book I know that she can never hold her own against those females. Much of what she does she does without any thought (and not even like "Vampire Academy's" Rose who says things without giving them any thought and kicks herself later for it), Caitlin seriously does things with NO. THOUGHT. AT. ALL. (and usually she gives no thought at all to the stupidest/ most common sense things ever- ie. leaving the sword behind, the sword which has the power to basically humankind/ vampirekind FOREVER).

Furthermore, insta-love (or close to it) happens once again in this book (and while I could have maybe accepted it had it been between two newly introduced characters it wasn't. It was between Caitlin and Blake- basically they lock eyes at a distance and she cannot get him out of his mind, even though she is in love with Caleb).

All in all, I do think that this book's premise does fall a bit flat, however, I am hoping that the series will be able to regain its stride in the next book of the series, "Destined". (less)

As with Loved there are a number of story lines going on at one time.

The main story is about Caitlin, who is now a full vampire. Caleb brings her to a small unknown island, Pollepel, located on the Hudson River in New York. The island is home to a group of misfit vampires who are outcasts from the more “normal” vampire covens. Here Caitlin will train to fight and learn to live with her new found vampire skills. Meanwhile, Caleb is visited by his ex-wife, Sera, causing Caitlin to question his feelings for her. Rejected by Caitlin, Caleb returns to his coven to try to convince the elders to fight against the Blacktide coven. Meanwhile, Sam and Samantha have been captured by the Blacktide Coven and Samantha must try to figure a way to get them out alive. Meanwhile, evil Kyle is in possession of the Sword and determined to take over leadership of the Blacktide coven and destroy humankind.

Can Caitlin learn to live this new life without Caleb? Can Caleb convince his coven leaders that the Blacktide coven is a threat to them and get the help needed to defeat them? Will Sam and Samantha get out of the clutches of the enemy alive? And what of Kyle’s plan to take over the world? These questions and more are answered with twists and turns along the way, unexpected alliances are forged and there is an ending that you won’t see coming.

This book is written a bit darker than the previous book. Lighthearted moments are few and far between and the violence much more graphic. We see a new side to the characters, the two constants are that Kyle, who was truly evil before is still truly evil and Caitlin, who was innocent and unsure of herself still maintains these qualities. We get more of the back-story, helping us to understand the characters reactions to their circumstances. The secondary characters get some good face time and help to string the different story lines together.

While the story itself was a good one, I had some issues. There were editing errors that should have been caught and did, to some extent, inhibit my enjoyment of the story. There were three characters with some derivative of the name Sam, two of whom were central to the plot. Some scenes just made me scratch my head and ask where that came from. For example, upon realizing she’s now a full vampire, Caitlin sprouts wings and jumps out her window. I may have missed it, but I didn’t remember wings being mentioned before and wouldn’t she have needed some instruction? All the people (save one) on the island had become vampires as teenagers, thus maintaining the look of a teenager. I had no problem with that, but they also seemed to maintain the mentality of a teenager. All that aside, I did enjoy the book; I just could have enjoyed it more had these issues not existed. This book would appeal to the young adult reader who enjoys darker side of urban fantasy. I would recommend reading at least Book 2 or you might have problems following the plot. Be warned, there is a cliffhanger ending.

If I hadn't recently read the other two books in the series, I believe I would have had to go back and read them. The author doesn't really narrate much about the circumstances surrounding the previous books. And in between reading those and this one, I had read several other books and had to refamilarize myself with the characters in the series. The reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the many editorial errors that should have been found. I paid no attention to them in the first book. Tried to ignore them in the second book, but by the third book the problem should have been corrected.

Ok, I liked the first 2 books in the Vampire Journals, and this one is ok. I was so freakin' mad at Caitlin though, ug teenagers! I find myself rolling my eyes constantly throughout this book. And not because I'm frustrated w/ how the characters things (that's a "good" frustrated)...I'm frustrated w/ how cheesy, corny, and cliched this book is.

Once again, with this book, I think it's a good plot...the idea is good. But the actual execution of it isn't up to par. The only thing that keeps me go...more I was going to review this book after I finished reading it...but I'm having some issues w/ it so I just have to review it as I go.

What's up w/ the vampire weapons? They sound...I don't know. Cheesy? And the whole vampire war is just a little stupid to me.

I also don't like the way the POV switches basically at every chapter. I hate when books do that. I think it should stick mainly w/ Caitlin.

Kyle says he wants Sam to capture Caleb b/c according to him, wherever he is, Caitlin is, so Caitlin will come running after him. That sentence doesn't make sense right? Exactly. Kyle says they're stuck together. THEN he says Sam needs to capture Caleb so Caitlin will come running.

I think the wording needs to be worked on. I also think the editor needs to edit better! I really was hoping that this one would be better, but...I don't know.

So she finds out she has guard duty w/ Blake the 2nd day she's conscious. However, she's nervous b/c of "what she feels for him" and they're "going to be alone." SERIOUSLY??!!! THIS AGAIN!! She sees the guy for 2 seconds, mind you, they're not even face to face and she knows they're bad for each other and that she likes him. Wake up and smell the freaking coffee Caitlin, you may see someone you're attracted to but stop being so conceited and thinking everyone is automatically attracted to you! And stop thinking 2 seconds of seeing someone automatically means they're in love w/ you! JEEZ!

Okay so I have to say that the last chapter was actually good. But Caitlin is an idiot WHY DID SHE NOT BRING THE SWORD!!!??? COMMON SENSE!!! I almost have a feeling that Caleb will end up hating her, blah blah blah. I hope he just doesn't and gets over it.

But what was up w/ the back of the book saying that she had a love interest in Blake. She saw him...3 times? When the back of the book says that you expect to have all these run ins w/ said "interest" and a deep, meaninful connection. Oh well. I hope the next one is better. Sorry to be so cynical to you who love this book.(less)

Do you want to read some Vampire action? This series will do it for you.

Caitin finds hereself with a new coven, recently transformed into a new full vampire. She is emotionaly distrought about Caleb, and decides to search for him and clear up some stuff between them.

I total enjoy Morgan's style of writing, how the story is so fast paced and full of action. I could write so much more, but totally don't want to put any spoilers on here because I think its an incredible saga.

I did not really like the story all that much but I had to find out what was going to happen next so I read the second and then third one. Ok you definitely need to have the next book ready to start before you finish this one :)

I would say just get the whole series. That way you can read them all together. I don’t think I would have been too happy with this ending if I hadn’t had the next one to start on.

This is the third book in the series and it was easily the best. I read it in one day because I just couldn't seem to separate the Kindle from my hand.
This book starts a few days after the last book finished, and we discover that Caleb accepted her wishes and turned her into a full blooded vampire! And instead of going straight back out to look for the sword (that was stolen from them) he stays with Caitlin while she turns and recovers from her fatal stabbing.

Lord...the mistakes in this book drive me absolutely insane. Things like "offer good," rather than off for good. Another like Caitlin, the main character and her pet wolf Rose being shown around an island by her new friend Polly, and when Polly finishes a sentence is states "Rose said, with another wink." REALLY?!?! Rose...since when did the wolf start talking. Or when the story is told by the writer ad makes mistakes like yourself instead of herself. I am not going to write a long review because I am still wiping tears out of my eyes. But this book by far is the best out of the series, a lot of things happened the the reader did not see happening. The author left this book off as a cliff hanger like she did with the other two books. All in all it was good but I don't want to cry in the next book.

I really love this story/series. It is a unique take on vampire fiction. I love how the story incorporates actual history and takes place all over. I'm finding that each book in this series gets better and better. I really enjoyed it, pretty fast paced and a lot going on. Some intense feelings through out the book. Things happen to the main characters in this book that you will not expect. I like that. Leaves off with a cliffhanger, can't wait to get the next book in this series.

Loved this one. I loved Polly, she was awesome, Kind of reminded me a bit of Alice in Twilight, but I think she's better that Alice :).

I hate that we saw just a little bit of her and the others in the coven, I think it would have been nicer to stretch it out a bit more.
