I downloaded this one for free a while ago and I finally picked it up because I was looking for something short to read in between my longer books. This was perfect and adorable. I loved Sweetness and I think I need to read the full-length books in this series soon.
I think what makes or breaks a short story is the connection. There has to be some way to immediately connect with either the characters or the plot quickly, otherwise everything seems rushed or I end up not caring about what happens....more

Super short story —hardly any build-up of conflict at all, and then kind of a pat solution. The heroine must choose between her father, who wants her to stay in a dead-end tiny town, and the man she loves, who is in the military, who wants to take the heroine away to a better town, and who will probably be moved all over the country to help with that goal. I will admit that the lack of another edition in the Body Movers series is tainting my judgement here...if it had been a Body Movers book it would have received more stars. I LOVE the Body Movers books.

Loved it. A Prequel-Short to a series called Southern Roads. A great introduction to the town of Sweetness and its population of 952 people. This story takes place 10 years before the series, and is about Emory, and the day he went home, on a 5 day leave, to propose to Shelby. A Tornado has different plans for this special day, and leaves the Town completely destroyed.

A short but satisfying read. This is really the intro/prequel/set up for Ms Bond's new SOuthern ROads seires...as such, it is very short. Despite it's length, it does mananage to tell a whole story, albeit a significantly compact one. Additonally it is lacking in almost everything else. As long as you keep in mind this is a short story, you should be able to enjoy it, before jumping into her new series.

I enjoy Stephanie Bond, and was excited to see a change from the Bodymover series. So far, this book 1 of a back-to-back trilogy is a little less than I had hoped for.
The setting in North Georgia of a "green" town being built from the debris of a tragic tornado has promise. Our 3 brothers have potential as protagonists. But it seems a little more like a nice swim in a small pool, rather than offering more "depth".
Still, I'll come back for book 2 and hope for a building-block effect.

Really quick, really unnecessary. Good palate cleanser. I've liked Ms. Bond's work in the past and decided to give this short a read. I should have saved my energy and I'm glad I didn't buy it. This is for completists only.

One of the best things about the Kindle store is all the free romance novels. Every once in a while I'm in the mood for cheesy romance, but this one was just terrible.
A quick read, the plot is even more simplistic than the cover makes it look, in the end everything resolves entirely too quickly, and throughout it all the characters are not fleshed out in the least bit. It was bad even by my standards for the free cheesy romances I occasionally download.

This was a cute book, would have been better if it would have turned into a full book. We didn't get to know the characters that would have made the book if we'd have gotten a little more detail. It was a fast paced read but enjoyable. Didn't realize it was a short story when I downloaded it. Thankfully it was free, looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

Another Kindle freebie I read while home sick. There both good and bad things about the book, but what concerned me most was that the characters seemed like a classic set-up for a relationship that would evolve into battering. This is not a romance to model or admire, which is kind of the point of these books, so it failed right out of the gate.
I got a nook for Christmas and was excited about using it. I didn't have any extra money to spend so I found this book for free. I usually like Stephanie Bond's books, but this one didn't quite do it for me. I'm not sure if it is because it was a novella or because I didn't actually become attached to any of the characters.
This was a short story that didn't really keep my interest for too long. They knew each other before he was deployed, he came back to propose, she said no at first because of objections from her dad, and then they get married. Wasn't as much romance in it as I would have liked and it was PG. I wouldn't read this again.

This one was okay, but due to the fact that it's a novella things moved VERY fast and the reader ends up feeling maybe a little bit cheated. I love the author's Body Movers series, so I'm willing to bet that the full length books in this series are probably worth a try.
Another free Harlequin book. Short, sweet and a little corny! The premise of this book could really have resulted in a much longer book. I would have been interested to hear how the town coped with its devestation, and how the families resolved the issues that still remain.
This was a very quick read but set up the series nicely. In this story you learn about the town and meet the next hero. Because it was such a short story all I can say about it is that it was very enjoyable. You don't need to read it to read the story its just a bonus.
Free Kindle download. This short story serves as the prequel to the Southern Roads trilogy. It was fairly well fleshed-out for just a few chapters. Emory comes home on leave hoping to propose to his girlfriend (since the 2nd grade) and things don't initially go as he planned.
I am half way through the first book and say that this one was before it. I like being able to see Sweetness in the before, during the storm, and the aftermath. It gives a great glimpse to Porter. I hope that we get to see more of Emory and Shelby again.
Honestly, I was expecting this story to be awful based on other reviews I read. But I thought it was well written and well formatted. It did exactly what it was supposed to do… whet my appetite for the upcoming series.

This is a prequal to Bond's newest trilogy which is slated to come out this summer. This novella provides the background story for the small town where the next three books will take place. The book was a sweet romance but lacked the other good stuff which Ms. Bond normally has in her books. None of the interactions gave me butterflys or made weak in the knees.
