I knew I was in trouble as soon as I saw the first few pages of recipes. There are only 90 recipes in the book and a lot of instructions on how to pick out food, store it and use it. Though I have enough experience to not need that advice those recipes are too good for me to pass it. I should have known that Bi-Rite's philosophy would be a perfect fit for my local seasonal cooking style. I'm going to have to give up on reading the book (skimmed it) and just buy it.

Well-written thoughtful book about how to shop for and cook the foods we eat. On one level it is about a neighborhood grocery store. It is also, as the title states, about how we create community in choosing the foods we choose. There are a bunch of lovely and easy to follow recipes. I strongly recommend this book to any foodies or folks who care about the food we eat. It is a lovely primer on meats, fish, cheese, fruits and veggies.

There are so many good things about this book. It's the one I wish I'd had when the cooking bug hit me a couple of years ago. I appreciate all the information and advice in here about how to eat sustainably, with the seasons. So far, the recipes have been wonderful!
