Akiraaaaa~ Honey come over here, I've got something for you.

Gosh, I love Katherine. Always so willing to inflict violence when called for. What do you think are the chances Motomi will write her in next volume to give Akira the stabbing he so richly deserves?

If you aren't familiar with the story, I highly recommend starting with volume one because this is one series where each chapter (with one exception) is important to the plot. I'm writing the rest of this review as if you have read the previous volumes.

If you aren't familiar with the story, I highly recommend starting with volume one because this is one series where each chapter (with one exception) is important to the plot. I'm writing the rest of this review as if you have read the previous volumes.

Overall, this volume is about realizing that things aren't always going to work out the way you hoped. That precious moments in life can be shattered easily. In spite of that, it's an inspiring volume.

The first chapter has a great little story about the many ways others view Kurosaki. In it, we see a touching defense of the bleached-blond hero through Teru's actions and we also have a wonderful moment where Kurosaki gives in (a little) to his growing feelings for Teru. This has been happening more and more often as the series progresses and I like the slower pace when it comes to their relationship. The only thing that made me raise an eyebrow is that Kurosaki let a teacher in on his secret identity. This teacher had been trying to convince Teru she was hanging around a good-for-nothing hoodlum and, by revealing who he is, it freaked the teacher out a little. However, this is a bad security breach for the plot which has stressed that Daisy's identity remain on a need to know basis. In my opinion, the incident with the teacher wasn't worth the possible consequences. That said, maybe this will set up for something later in the story. Kyousuke Motomi has a tendency in this series to throw in what seem like tangential storylines or gags that tie in later.

My favorite chapter is the next one: What Was Taken From Me. In this chapter, Teru really begins to change from a more romantic/innocent view of relationships to one that's still based on friendship but also includes the physical. The artwork surrounding her curiosity of what it would feel like to be kissed by Kurosaki is almost as hypnotizing as her reaction to the thought (she can hardly walk). True to form, the aftereffect is handled with some great humor.

However, the mood quickly changes from lighthearted to dark when she encounters a boy named Akira who reminds her of her brother. He refuses to give back the bus pass she was looking for. Well, he will, for a price. And I cringed when he not only says he wants a kiss, but then forces her to give him one. The shame she feels afterwards is portrayed really well, very believable. The best part, though, is Daisy/Kurosaki's reaction. It's the first time in the manga where Kurosaki drops the pretense of "kind, brotherly" Daisy in a text message though he still uses Daisy's name. The artwork... oh, wow. I would love to frame that page where he lets her see a glimpse of his frustration and anger toward Akira.

And the way her reaction to that is drawn made me laugh out loud.

In the next chapter, Kurosaki goes through quite a bit of angst. He's trying to figure out if he should tell Teru how he was involved in her brother's death. Akira's growing presence in the story has got him thinking about the past and the future. This chapter has one of the most inspiring moments in the story, when Kurosaki, who's been comparing himself unfavorably to Teru's brother more than once, realizes his idol has faults as well (funny ones of course) and that what mattered was the attitude he took toward them. The result?

In the final chapter of this volume, they have their first "date". Kurosaki has told Teru he's going to tell her something important at the end and she knows it's the secret Daisy has been hiding. The build up is most of the fun as Teru decides where she wants to go. Riko's worry, however, keeps this chapter from being too lighthearted. When things begin to fall apart, you're not too surprised, though it doesn't come from Teru hating Kurosaki as he's feared. The danger comes from how Akira and Chiharu play with Teru and Kurosaki to get what they want. The writing in this chapter is fantastic, the artwork conveying Teru's anger and panic, not to mention Kurosaki's misery, very well. His final text as Daisy is heartbreaking, softened only by proof that, even if he's not by her side, he'll always protect/serve her.

The Review

The way Teru bumps into the weird hoodie guy in the last volume it’s pretty much a given he’s going to return, and he does, in a big way. The shadowy Akira adds on to the cast of bad guys, and though he’s in cahoots with Mori, he is a bit of a loose cannon. He seems less interested in the intrigue surrounding Daisy and more interested in messing with Teru’s mind, which he’s quite effective at, especially since he physically resembles her brother. It’s still not quite clear what he and Mori are after, but we do get more hints about Daisy’s less than upstanding past.

At any rate, Akira’s mischief does the trick of pushing Teru and Kurosaki’s relationship along. When Teru gets her first kiss stolen, her reaction is standard shojo stuff. Kurosaki’s, however, is adorably hilarious, and what follows is an entire chapter of Kurosaki agonizing over the convoluted situation between him and Teru. Despite all the guilt and angst Kurosaki struggles through, Motomi-sensei does a good job of injecting just enough humor so that the plot doesn’t get completely bogged down.

Kurosaki’s ultimate decision to confess to Teru will probably draw a collective “Finally!” from Motomi-sensei’s readers. Of course, such confessions never go as planned, and it’s little surprise when Akira and Mori show up to ruin things. It’s almost too easy how Kurosaki takes down Mori, but with Teru in Akira’s clutches at the end of the volume, the story seems headed toward another big rescue/confrontation in Volume 8.(less)

This volume is a turning point for the Dengeki Daisy series. A lot happens that sets up the plot for future books, but I never had the feeling that it was simply a place holder.

Kurosaki can't take the secrecy anymore. He wants to tell Teru not only that he's Daisy but that he loves her (he doesn't say this outright, but that was my impression). This volume... Oh, this volume. It was... It just... It. I'm even sure how to describe it yet. It was amazing. Everything, well, almost everything that I wanted to happen, happened. And I totally wasn't expecting it. I was thinking that it was going to be put off for a bit longer, till at least the next volume. But some serious stuff happened in this one, you guys. I don't even.

This volume... Oh, this volume. It was... It just... It. I'm even sure how to describe it yet. It was amazing. Everything, well, almost everything that I wanted to happen, happened. And I totally wasn't expecting it. I was thinking that it was going to be put off for a bit longer, till at least the next volume. But some serious stuff happened in this one, you guys. I don't even.
So, it opens with Teru wondering what the other teachers think of Kurosaki. Some like him, some don't. One of her teachers, doesn't. He doesn't like his bleached hair, and he thinks he's a bad influence on Teru, and blames him for Teru's grades. He tells all of this to Teru, and since she gets fed up of it, she tells him that if she doesn't get the top grades on the next test, she will have him dye his hair black. Kurosaki and the teacher talk, and Kurosaki is a bit mean, as he's mad, and gets the teacher's computer infected. Teru, feeling sorry for the guy, asks Daisy to fix it. Anyway, all of the other students ponder on Kurosaki with black hair, and then decide that he should dye his hair, but Teru feels, a little, bad and so studies very hard to pass. Which she does, despite the fact that she has a bit of a cold.
In the next chapter, Kurosaki goes to visit the grave of his old professor, who we haven't heard of yet, and who I'm assuming we'll hear more of later. Then it moves to Teru, who runs into Akira again, but thinks very little of it, unaware that he stole her bus pass. The next day, in class, her friends are talking about kissing, and she starts thinking about it, and what it would be like to kiss Kurosaki. But later, when she goes back to the bus station to look for her pass, she runs into Akira, yet again, who (aside from seeming just a tad psychotic) shows it to her but wants something in return. Catching her by surprise, he kisses her.
Teru is very upset about this, and after hitting him and running away, she goes home and locks herself in her room. Riko tells Kurosaki that some stranger kissed Teru, she's upset about it, and doesn't want to see him. He's upset that someone else kissed her, but goes home to sulk. And send her a message from Daisy.
And the message he sends her. Oh, that message, was amazing. He starts out normal, trying to get her not to think about it, but then adds at the end, how he wants to do something, but quickly sends another message to take it back. And she replies with something full of deeper meaning, and they both blush. The next day, when they're heading to school, they're all red and awkward, and still pretending that they don't know he's Daisy. It was fantastic, and made me so happy, and excited, and oh my god, you guys!
Ahhhh! Moving on...
In the next chapter, Kurosaki has a dream about Teru's brother, Soichiro, which freaks him out just a little, but which I found rather funny and cute. For a bit after this, Kurosaki talks with Riko, and then Takeda, about Teru and how he wants to tell her but is worried, and who Akira is and they think he's involved with everything. And then Kurosaki makes a date with Teru, to go wherever she wants, because he has something important to tell her. She has an idea what it is, that he's Daisy and whatever secret he's keeping, and quickly agrees. Her and her friends talk about it and she decides on an amusement park.
We also see that Kurosaki had a big admiration for Soichiro, that he thought he always knew where he was going and what he was doing. He's surprised when he finds out from Teru that he actually got lost all the time, only kept going and knew how to get things to where he wanted them.
Riko worries about Teru and how she's going to take the secret, and then they are off to their date. I didn't think we'd actually get to see them on it, figured it would be pushed off to the next volume, or something would interrupt them before it happened, and so was pleasantly surprised when it made it into the second-to-last chapter.
Her and Kurosaki go on several rides, and are having a very pleasant ride, until Akira steals Teru's phone and pulls her away from Kurosaki. She ends up on the Ferris Wheel with him, where he tells her what Kurosaki had to do with her brothers death. And tricks her into sending Kurosaki/Daisy a very bad message, telling him something that crushes his spirit. Meanwhile, Mori (the bad girl teacher) talks with Kurosaki after messing with the Ferris Wheel, but Kurosaki saves the day. Mostly. Except that he won't answer his phone, and I believe he is leaving, as the Ferris wheel comes to a stop and Teru gets knocked out.
It is so terrible, okay? It's terribly upsetting, and I don't like it, and I want to find out what happens next so bad, because I must know, and why don't I have it yet?!
I'm still reeling from it all, I think, excited and exhilarated from what happened, and wanting to know what happens next. Wanting Kurosaki to go to Teru, and kiss her, and find out what she actually thinks of it all, and... and everything. I want everything to happen, and I want to read it, right now. Okay? Okay.

OMG WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!! The ending!! I might die waiting for the 8th volume (which only comes out in a few days but I have to wait for the library to get it and then wait in line for it... though I'm number 12 in line and there will be 10 available copies... so I should get it relative soon after the library gets their copies) But..... daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang!!! I was nearly in tears! (no lie!)

I can't wait to see what happens next!!

OK, call me a fan-girl, but this entire series has had me either gnawing on my knuckles in anticipation, walking in front of traffic with a big stupid grin on my face (yes, I read while walking), or otherwise rolling around on the floor drowning in my unstoppable giggle fits.

Akira, nama yang sempat muncul sebentar secara sembunyi-sembunyi di volume sebelumnya, sekarang menunjukkan aksinya dengan lebih jelas. Penggambaran lebih menyeramkan dibandingkan antagonis yang lain, padahal sebelumnya dikira mirip dengan kakaknya Teru.

Dengeki Daisy is a favorite of mine for not only for its beautiful artistic characters but also for the romance that just tantalized me through and through but also for the tight-knit relations that the characters have. Through a darkened past, they all stick close to each other because they are more of a family. That is what I find beautiful about this manga.

Definitely something Shojo fans should look into. You'll fall for the characte...more

The secret is finally out ... sort of.

I mean, I am super glad that I have volume 8 in front of me because my little fangirling heart can't take this sort of drama, but I want to know what happened and I mean what really happened. I am willing myself to not freak out till I know the full story! Such a dick move telling her your secret and not giving the full explanation! I don't want to write this review any more! I have manga to read damn it!
