While on a forced vacation by her boss, mostly due to her attitude, Raven comes to the aid of a young woman who's been brutally attacked and discovers she bears the same bite that ended her mortal life. Not one to pass up the chance of finding Aega, Raven becomes invested in finding the demon responsible for this attack and in that process comes across a portal leading to a parallel universe where she meets the incredibly sexy Finn, a Scottish Recovery agent who will help Raven find the demon and fulfill her destiny.

At first glance, I disliked Raven. She seems arrogant and bitchy with her demanding attitude and lack of feelings for others. As the story unfolds you get to see a little more into her character and realize that's all really a wall she's built to shut people out and that she can be thoughtful and sweet. Finn is as sexy as they come with his suave ways and Alpha attitude. The sexual tension between Raven and Finn is enough to make you scream...just when you think something's going to happen there's an interruption, but there are a few steamy moments to savor. I wanted a lit more romance between these two but am sure I'll get more in the following books (I better Toni!).

This story doesn't lack originality by any means. The variation of supernatural beings and the parallel universe bring a fresh element to paranormal romance and borders on urban fantasy. There is plenty of mystery and suspense throughout to keep the plot unpredictable all the way through to the end. Toni LoTempio creates characters who are fun and flirty, yet edgy. Raven's Kiss will feel like a thrilling roller-coaster ride you'll want to visit again!

Note: This book contains reference to rape and violence that some readers may find objectionable.

My Thoughts:
I LOVED this story! This story grabbed me from the start and didn't let go until I had closed the cover after finishing the whole book! I was captivated by both the story and the characters.
This is a story like nothing I have read - the author gives us parallel time coupled with modern day living and then adds in paranormals, ancient prophecies, mythology, and romance! What more could a reader want?

This actually kept me guessing! Normally, with prophecy books, I can get it all figured out on how everything is supposed to unfold. Oh no! Toni LoTempio totally fooled me! Which, I think is awesome.

I really enjoyed this intense and fast paced read by Toni LoTempio. The main lesson I learned from this book is what we are all told, never judge a book by its cover! I never would have picked this book up on the shelf, but I would have missed out if I hadn't gotten a hold of it. It definitely borders the young adult/adult genre lines to me but with the rather heated (but few, really just 1) love scenes I would classify it as adult.

What happens when you get bit by a demon and don't die when everyone else does? What happens when you don't turn evil like the few that do survive do? You take it out by hunting the thing down, but to kill it you have to kill an even bigger demon. Raven finds it gets harder as she tries to stop the demon from fulfilling an age old prophecy.

So this was my first book of this nature.

Ok well kinda...here's what I mean. Raven's Kiss is labeled as Paranormal Romance, and it is, but it's different from the others I've read. This is more of a CSI meets demons, trolls, mages, shifters, and much MUCH more.

The story line was great and fast paced. I loved the idea of "parallel time" and there being another me, but not so ME running around somewhere that I can't see. In truth...I think that I have always believed this to be the case.

I liked Raven's voice in the book. She is snarky, strong as nails, and doesn't take crap from anyone, but she is also broken. She battles the struggles of being attacked by a demon. A demon that changed her species entirely. You see, once a mere mortal human, Raven now finds herself a Shifter. Able to shape-shift into just about anything. Which sounds cool right? Yea well most humans bitten & turned by a demon become uncontrollably evil, thusly most people/Others alike fear her. So much so that her boss at the Recovery commands her to take some time off when she is showing signs of wear. Ever since Raven was bitten she has made it her duty to take down each and every rouge Other she can get her hands on hoping to one day find and kill the demon that changes her.

It's been over a year since she was attacked...and now she finds out that he is still up to his old tricks. Vacation or not she won't sleep until he is stopped!

I really liked the story but I fear that whole "CSI" angle isn't really for me. Nothing at all wrong with the story. The writing is great. The plot has all the right twists. The men are HOT!!! I never thought I could be attracted to a man with red hair, but make him Scottish? Ummmm yea that I can get used to *winks* All in all I would say if you like the "investigation" type stuff this book is for you. In fact if I was into that type of book, or movie for that matter, then I would LOVE this book. Because everything is done so well. In fact I would say it is prolly easily 4 1/2 stars as far as the writing is concerned. It's just the CSI type stuff that I just wasn't that into:)(less)

Initially it took me a little while to get into the story as it does start off quite slow, setting the scene and introducing all the characters, it also took me a little while to get to grips with who was who. However, after all of that I really enjoyed the story and I loved the idea of having a parallel universe that was only slightly different to the one Raven was currently living in. The demon (who Raven is trying to capture and bring to justice) is capable of crossing back and forth to either dimension, but it is far more complicated for a human, but as luck would have it Raven was in the right place at the right time.

When Raven crosses over she finds Finn, a hunky Scottish man who is also tracking the same crimes in his world. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Raven and Finn, which developed and was heightened by the constant danger of the demon. I both loved and hated that Finn was Scottish, mostly because I am Scottish myself so I found that there were quite a few flaws in his stereotype and what he said, it just didn’t all fit together perfectly. However, having said that there are definitely not enough red haired, burly Scottish men with an endearing sensitive side and a body to drool over as the main leads in romance novels. He was certainly an interesting character.

I really enjoyed Raven’s Kiss and although the book wasn’t perfect, it was well written and polished. I also really liked a lot of the minor characters (as well as the main ones), and I did love that some characters had completely different personalities from one world to the next, which made the cast that Toni had created even more interesting. This is well and truly a romance first with loads of extra sub plots all intertwined to keep you glued to the page, the one thing I will say is that this wasn’t as steamy a read as you might expect from the cover.

With this type of book you can often guess the ending as well as the middle and beginning of the story, however, there are definitely a few surprises in Raven’s Kiss to keep you reading until the very ending. The end was done really well and everything was wrapped up, but there was certainly scope left for a sequel. I would happily recommend this book, it was an easy and entertaining read. I will definitely be looking out for more of Toni LoTempio’s work in the future. (less)

I love the concept of the alternate dimension in Raven's Kiss, this unique concept gives the story that extra something, the world gets more intriguing. In the alternate dimension, there are the same characters as in the original dimension, but they have made different life choices, and are therefore different people, with different personalities. I really like Finn, the leader of the Recovery in the alternate dimension, and Raven's new crush. They work well together, and for the most part, their relationship is believable.

I did have some minor issues near the end of Raven's Kiss. When lives are on the line, and time is of the essence, Raven and Finn take some time out for themselves. I found this just really unrealistic, and rolled my eyes a bit. In the later part of the book, some of the magic and happenings were a bit over-the-top as well. However, despite these minor issues, I really enjoyed the book.

Raven's Kiss is action packed, never slow, and always entertaining. The romance in this book is not excessive, it fits the story and all that Raven is going through. I am looking forward to seeing what comes next for Raven. I will read more from Toni LoTempio in the future. Readers who like paranormal, urban fantasy books will likely enjoy reading Raven's Kiss.

Hot, steamy and exciting!

I was dreading that this book would be too predictable, a little too similar to its competitors; however, I was relieved and pleasantly surprised.

Filled with twists and turns, Raven's Kiss kept me hooked. It has strong, well developed characters who had enough depth to them so that I wanted to 'hear their story'. There was no unnecessary 'fluff' to this book, which was a relief, rather it stayed in the action and right alongside Raven.

So, you're here and you want to know what I think of my story. Well, I'll tell you ... it sucked for awhile. I mean, why the hell did I have to get bit by a demon? All I was doing was winding down at a bar with a friend. One thing led to another and, next thing I know, I'm demon-bit and, as a result, changed into a damned shapeshifter.

Now I've got serious anger issues and this bitch, Hedy, that works in the same department as I do, knows how to push my buttons. Oh, what I wouldn't give to really...more So, you're here and you want to know what I think of my story. Well, I'll tell you ... it sucked for awhile. I mean, why the hell did I have to get bit by a demon? All I was doing was winding down at a bar with a friend. One thing led to another and, next thing I know, I'm demon-bit and, as a result, changed into a damned shapeshifter.

Now I've got serious anger issues and this bitch, Hedy, that works in the same department as I do, knows how to push my buttons. Oh, what I wouldn't give to really put her in her place ... As a matter of fact, I started to and now I'm on a two-week sabbatical from the Recovery because of it.

Oh, I'm sorry ... you want to know what the Recovery is? It's like a police department and detective agency rolled into one, but with agents dealing in paranormal cases. We have full-blooded humans that work there, but everyone has some sort of special ability. Like my partner, George. He's a mage, which is another term for a sorcerer or conjurer.

So, anyhow, I'm on my two-week "sabbatical" from the department. First night off, I go grab a few from the local bar. Getting lost on the way home, I get hassled by a Hellhound. After kicking his ass, this chic comes running into the alley screaming for help. I go to her apartment and see her roommate has been bitten by the same demon I had been ... Aega.

That decided it. For the next two weeks, I was hunting down this damn demon and finishing him one way or another.

Enlisting the help of some friends, I set out on my quest. Over the course of 48 hours, I encounter an alternate parallel universe and an ancient prophesy involving a riddle I have no idea how to solve.

I muddle my way through and, at the end, I have to fight Aega's boss, Arkeath. Really?! I'm expected to fight a freaking demon without using my shapeshifting abilities?! What the hell?!!!

As unfair as that was, I figured out how to kick that demon's ass and save the day.

So, give it up for Ms. LoTempio for creating me, Raven. If you want to read about a kick-ass chic who can hold it down with the big boys, then you need to read my story. Raven's Kiss isn't just the title, it's the secret to my success.(less)

It is here she meets the gorgeous red-headed Scotsman, Finn McPhee, who is also a member of the Recovery in this parallel universe and too is investigating the same demon.

Seeking answers, Finn takes Raven to meet an ancient fae who informs them the demon’s quest is rooted in Scottish mythology and magic. Raven also learns of her heritage and of a prophecy which held her as the chosen one.

Raven and Finn felt an instant attraction, and it was in their cards they were destined to be together but I felt their relationship didn’t flow naturally; it seemed forced due to circumstance. But the romance takes backstage to the actual story/mystery.

The first half of the book was slow paced and too much angst and woe is me from the heroine Raven, she was unwillingly changed but she survived which is a rare feat when others when changed either become evil or they die. There was overload of content and a too much repetitiveness.

I couldn’t take to Raven at all, she was impatient and rude; she wasn’t a pleasant friend at all, demanding, sarcastic and seemingly unrelentless in the search for the demon, who was actually a pawn, subservient to another, darker demon.

I did enjoy the secondary characters, they were thought out well and much too tolerant of Raven who definitely needed an attitude adjustment.

There are a few inconsistencies in the writing, there are a number of typos and spelling errors, but these things are minor and can be easily overlooked.

I would describe Raven’s Kiss as a mix of Paranormal with Mystery. It was a fascinating plot but fell short on delivery for me.(less)

This one wasn't for me. I wanted to like it but it was like eating a Big Mac while standing in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Without question, there is much spicier fare to be had at my fingertip. I won't punish the author for failing to entertain me but I will flag a few things for wary readers. To me, Urban Fantasy requires some ugliness. There is no way around it -- you can't mention rape in passing when it is at the foundation of the heroine's life. Fights are violent. The parallel alternate universe in this story gives us a double dose of colorful characters that makes this an interesting read all the way to the demon showdown at the end.

The romancing is fun with a bit of banter and light on the schmexy stuff, after all, demon hunting is the priority ;-D

And I like how the title of the book comes into play.
