by
Jamie Manning (Goodreads Author)
Waking up in a coffin hungry for blood is only the beginning for sixteen-year-old Ava Blue. When Chance Caldon, the hottie who dug her up, tells her she's half vampire, Ava's world really turns upside down.
Half vamp? Ava can't believe it...she doesn't even know what that means! Not until Aldric, a thousand-year-old vampire, shows up and tells her it's true--and that he's t...more

This was a fantastic debut by Jamie Manning!
“You are strong and immortal, like a vampire. But you are also emotional, and therefore vulnerable, like humans.”
I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied that Blood Born wasn’t “just another” vampire story. I’m so glad I read this because I truly enjoyed Blood Born. This was unique and a refreshing read packed with action.

When the awesome Jamie Manning asked me if I’d read and blurb Blood Born last year, I was beyond flattered. Not only was it my first cover blurb, but the summary for his debut YA sounded amazing, and something I’d have on my shelf. I couldn’t wait to dive in and meet the characters!
Ava Blue (love this name!) is my kind of girl. When we first meet her, it’s the creepiest scene I’ve ever read. She’s been buried alive—or undead—and ever sentence heightens the tension as we eagerly await Ava to rise...more

Jenny's Review: Another cover that helped me visualize the MC is Blood Born. The entire time I was reading I can actually picture the girl in the cover as Ava. This story has a unique twist to the paranormal books out there and I enjoyed reading it. The characters are very well written and I loved Chance and his protective stance around Ava. Especially since he’s the one who helped her out of the coffin. WOW, I have heard my fair share of vampire stories but this one is new to me. Being buried a...more
I have been wanting to read this book since Jamie Manning came in the library I work at with an announcement about a book signing. I was finally able to order some young adult books and you better believe this book was in that order.
My character opinions (which is pretty much how I judge a book for the most part):
Ava Blue- loved the name! She was such a strong character from the beginning and there's nothing I like less in a main character than weakness. She was so brave from the time she woke...more

I'll be honest I wasn't expecting much from this book at all, but after the first couple of chapters I was hooked! In the beginning this book is a little confusing, but that's mostly because the book is told from the perspective of Ava and it seems like she never knows what's actually going on. Ava is a 16 year old girl who wakes up in a coffin only to discover that she is half vampire half human. One thing I didn't like about this book is that it talked abou...more

I am so happy that I got a chance to read this book. Not only did it leave me extremely happy but I loved the ending!
What hooked me about this book are the characters. Written stunningly well, the reader is able to easily slip into the shoes of the characters. I like that Ava and Chance are characters that are written to their age. They sound and act like teenagers. They have aspects to them that make the reader feel as if they can know them like a real person.

Disclaimer: I met this author once, and was intrigued by the story. He did not ask me to review but I thought I would.
Brief overview: Ava wakes up in a coffin and finds out she is vampire--half vampire. With the help of an enigmatic boy she learns to deal with her condition. Along the way she makes friends and enemies...which sums it up.
The biggest thing I liked--was the potential of this writer and story. I liked how fast it read. I gave it a four star--because I can tell this will be a writer...more

Disclaimer: I won this book as a Goodreads First Reads.
First of all, the ARC copy I won was very nice. Well bound with solid print and some lovely designs at the start of each chapter. I haven't actually read an ARC copy of anything, so you've my pardon if they're all like this. I was still impressed.
The writing was engaging, with quick, natural-sounding dialog and prose. I felt myself drawn to the character almost at once, and the first chapter d...more

On the very first page, you see Ava's personality shine through. Her snarky, almost cynical attitude definitely makes this book different. And I loved how well her personality and inner thoughts weren't the typical lovey-dovey, unsure of myself type that I've seen a lot of lately.
There were a couple of things I didn't like about this book though. One, half-vampire. What does that even mean? I mean the book helped me understand Ava's dilemma and how she's part human, part vampire. But how does th...more

Jamie Manning’s Blood Born is a fast-paced, fun, clever, and original take on the vampire novel. What I enjoyed most were the frequent touches of humor throughout the novel, even during the more serious scenes. The tone reminded me a bit of Paranormalcy by Kiersten White, and Ava’s snarky comments were to die for!
On a more serious note, Ava is a fascinating heroine because as a half-vampire, half-human, she’s placed in the position of having to fight against both other vampires and the emerging...more

Ok this book left me hanging so bad. I have to see what happens next!
Blood Born has it's own unique take on Vampires. One that is more humanizing that others (that I've read) in the fact the they can go out during the day under sunlight(no sparkling;) and they live out in the open with the rest of humanity within communities (well some). Other than that we don't get too much more information about the vampires in this book. No history, no back ground, and no structure. But, what we do get is Ava...more

I for one am glad to see more vampire books popping up again, especially with the scary blood-thirsty kind of vampires found in Jamie Manning’s Blood Born. Blood Born is the first book in the Blood Prophecy Trilogy and is about a girl named Ava who wakes up in a coffin underground to find she’s been reborn a vampire. Good thing she has Chance, the boy who dug her out of the grave, to help her. But a new vampire is not the safest person to be around if you know what I mean. All Ava has to do to g...more
Wow! A vampire story written in a different flavor. A sixteen-year-old wakes up with an overpowering hunger. It wasn't a hunger most teenagers have. Ava's appetite was hungry for blood. Her bed was a coffin. Thus, begins this unusual vampire novel. I think it is a good read for Young adults who will enjoy it especially since the likeable characters in the novel are teenagers. I liked the ending and I believe you will too.

DNFed by the second chapter. When the main character asks all these questions about why she was turned and killed, and the characters refuse to answer her because they said it's not their place or they don't want to, it's a very poor writing tool to keep important information from the reader in order to keep the mystery element going.
I'm sick of authors using the "just because" angle in their books. It's bad writing.

I came across Jamie Manning's Blood Born (The Blood Prophecy Trilogy ) after visting Mr. Manning's blog. I have to admit, that, although I immediately added the book to my TBR list, I put off reading it. After all, there are so many vampire books out there - I wondered if this one would be at all original. The answer, friends is yes!

How could I not love a book that opens with a girl waking up in a coffin? I can't is the correct answer! Blood Born was an amazing story with lots of secrets and interesting characters to keep one captivated. It was so easy to fall in love with Ava and Chance and just know they were meant to be a couple even if they both tried to deny it. I guess the only thing that kinda bugged me a bit other than the fact that I can't have Chance for myself was the overprotectiveness of him towards Ava. I just...more

This started off Great! and it finished the same way... I loved Blood Born. Jamie has a way with writing that drew me in and kept me engaged in the story. Ava we meet her and well she's in a coffin, buried alive she thinks. She is a well written character and stays true thoughout the book. I cannot wait to read more about her!

Ava wakes up in a coffin, and then finds out that she is half-vampire hybrid, but has no memory of her life before waking.
Interesting vampire story, Ava has to kill 100 vampires to get her humanity back. With the help of Chance (hunky boy who she is very attracted to), and vampire hunter friends, she goes on this "mission" while trying to attend high school and pretend to be "human".

Wow, my thoughts when finishing this was "I need the next one. now" Unfortunately I will have to be patient for a while. It was a great unique twist on a vampire story (not a sparkly vampire in sight) Ava wakes in a coffin craving Blood with no idea who she is and why she is buried, she soon discovers from a boy called chance who helped dig her up that she is a half vampire half human hybrid we follow Ava on her quest to keep her Humanity and discover the truth about why chance is so willing to h...more

I've always wanted to be a writer (like most writers, I'm sure) but not until the last few years have I taken it seriously (after I read a tiny, unknown book called Twilight). I was always told growing up that I had to get a job and "earn my keep", so I pushed my dream of writing a book to the back of my mind and entered the workforce. Fast-forward many, many years and here I am, trying to make a...more
