This is the first time I have heard of the Dark Swan series, and I am extremely interested in continuing the series. The artwork in this book is bright, colorful, and engaging.

Eugenie has the power to vanquish the dark and evil beings back to the places they belong. She has learned from the best - her father. Although he is now retired, he is still both a great resource for her as well as a source of strength.

A young girl has been taken by the gentry, now she must dec...more

First of all a massive thank you to Sea Lion Books who contacted me asking if I would like to review this comic!

I had previously heard about the comics and was a bit upset that most likely they would only be sold in the US, making it harder for me to get a hold off. I love Richelle Mead's writing, and have previously read the first three books in the Dark Swan series, so I was super excited to get a chance to read this comic!

First of all the artwork in this comic is amazi...more

The Dark Swan. Storm Born, issue #1, an adult comic.
Written by Richelle Mead and Grant Alter.
Art by Dave Hamann

Disclosure: I’ve received this arc version from the the Sea Lion Books Publishing House with a review request.

This is the first comic issue, out of total of four. First half of the Graphic Novel is scheduled for a release in September 2011, followed by the next four comic issues. Second half of the Graphic Novel will be published after that, with an...more

Those of you already fans of Eugenie – aka Odile – probably don’t need my prompting to pick up this graphic novel. Those who haven’t yet met her – well, you should! Eugenie is tough, intelligent, funny and sexy and the art in this book is amazing! When I finished it, I just wanted more – fast-paced and compelling, this is a story for anyone who likes paranormal suspense and action; although I should warn that this book is definitely at least PG-13.

She is a shaman – she spends her da...more

The ARC was provided by the publishers Sea Lion Books. Thank-you very much for requesting a review.

I have to say I have not read much comic books (in fact I think this is my second one) and after my experience with the first one I read I was worried that I would not enjoy the very little amount of pages I get with one issue. With graphic novels and manga you get at least 100 pages. I was worried that the story would feel rushed or lacking development but I am relieved to say that tha...more

Absolutely Fun & Great Graphic Comic Beginning!

I love the graphic concept matching the story; the graphics bright and colorful backgrounds bring the story to life and only enhanced my imaginations visions. Even though this is just the first issue of the four issues for half of the book, it was the perfect teaser to hook me into the story line. I wanted more and can't wait to pick up the next issue. The story line grabbed my attention immediately and the characters were very humoro...more

Dark Swan: Storm Born is 36 pages of awesomeness. Eugenie is one heck of a heroine that definitely keeps you enthralled in her day-to-day life. As she fights demonic shoes, meets prospective clients, or is getting frisky with a Kiyo, you can’t help but fall in love with this amazing paranormal tale.

Richelle Mead is one of my all-time favorite authors and seeing her characters in graphic novel form is extremely exciting. The artwork definitely does the characters and plot justice. Eac...more

So I have popped my graphic novel cherry with Richelle Mead’s Storm Born part 1. Eugenie Markham is a freelance Shaman and the story starts with her banishing a creature back to the otherworld. She is then contacted by a client whose 14 year old sister has been taken by fairies into the otherworld and he wants Eugenie to physically go there to get her out.

I haven’t read this book so I cannot comment how close the story is followed and I have never read a graphic novel before either...more

Down & dirty review because I gotta be somewhere in about ten minutes.

Sea Lion Publishing contacted me as they seemed to have done with a lot of people and sent me the first three issues of Storm Born. The collected version will have issues 1-4 so I haven't seen the complete book as of yet.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not a Richelle Mead fan per say. I think she's a good writer, but her books tend to go to dark, angsty, places and I don't like angst in my romance.

NOTE: This is a review for Issue 1 in the comics not the full harback edition

I was asked to review this comic by the publisher. Having only just gotten into graphic novels I thought I would give it a go. And I really enjoyed it. For such short installment its full of actions and thrills.

I have never read Richelle Meads Dark Swan series. So I can't really judge on how the comic and novels compare. Howeve...more

(Received copy for review by the wonderful Sea Lion Books. Thank you so much!)

Contains some adult-language, violence, and sexual-content. To some that's a "no-no" but to me, that's a "yes-yes" :P

Fun, sexy, thrilling, humorous, and extremely entertaining!

Storm Born, Issue #1 follows Eugenie Markham who's pretty much happy with her job of banishing otherworldly beings back to "the lands of death." However, when she is given a job...more

I like/love/adore comics. They can make us, the readers, picture easier our favourite characters, and if we get to talk about Dark Swan main characters - then you hit a good spot.

We can see on the cover the famous shaman "Odile" Dark Swan - Eugenie Markham. I'm not sure who published this comic, who draw and colored it, but i can simply say it's amazing.

An enormous thanks to Sea Lion Books for contacting me and opening me up to the world of the graphic novel!

As you've probably figured out, graphic novels generally don't make it to my bookshelves. Nothing against them whatsoever, I guess I just never saw one that caught my attention. Until now.

Many of you have probably read the novel Storm Born by Richelle Mead, something which I'm itching to do, especially now. I just finished reading the graphic novel version about kick-ass...more

This was wonderfully supplied by Sea Lion Books. Thank you!

I really loved the graphics in this one. The bright colours & Eugenie's hair, it is fantastic.

I haven't started this series yet, but have it on my TBR list. After reading this issue, I I'll be starting them next. I really loved this one.

This is the first graphic novel I have read. I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it, but I must say I more than simply liked it. Richelle Mead is very gifted at creating stories that are interesting and draw me in. Dark Swan is a supernatural story with a female heroine. I love strong and intelligent women like Eugenie Markham, the main character. She rids humans of other world creatures the humans believe to be ghosts. A human contacts her about a special dangerous mission. Eugenie must decide if compl...more

Fans of Richelle Mead and comics will be ecstatic to hear that she now has a novel or two out in comic form! The pictures are clear, tiny details all there. The story is followed very well-not the easiest thing to do when making a novel into a comic.

Eugenie is the main character in this comic. She is a strong, self-assured woman with a mission. In the beginning of the comic she is trying with partial success to get a death spirit out of her clients' shoe. Eventually...more

Storm Born is a series of graphic novels, based on Richelle Mead’s Dark Swan series, that follows the life of a freelance shaman named Eugenie Markham. Eugenie fights to keep demons and elemental creatures of the mystical world out of our human world by fighting them using magic and brute strength.

Going about her normal routine, Eugenie goes from client to client taking care of their supernatural problems, until one day a creature she is trying to vanquish calls her by her true nam...more

I am a big Urban Fantasy fan, but I haven’t had the chance to try Michele Mead’s Dark Swan series yet so I was excited to hear her first book, Storm Born, was going to be made into a comic book. I have become a recent convert to comics and graphic novels and I really love the mixing of art and fiction.

Dark Swan: Storm Born will run 8 issues long, coming out once a month. The first 4 will be made into a graphic novel at the half way p...more

So it isn’t every day that I do reviews of comic books or graphic novels. Okay, fine, the only one I ever did was Watchmen and that was a long time ago. When Sea Lion Books contacted me and asked me to do a review of the first two parts of the STORM BORN by Richelle Mead graphic novel (Volume One is coming out September 20th), I had a moment of hesitation before I signed up. PS, these two parts are now available at comic book stores as issues 1 and 2, so you don’t have to wait around for the ...more

Okay so when Patrick over at Sea Lion Books asked me to review Richelle Meads Storm Born graphic novel. I was so excited, because he had me at 'Richelle Mead'. I love this woman! She's absolutely wonderful. I still haven't managed to read the actual Storm Born novel-for a Richelle Mead fan, that's pretty awful-anyway, after having some trouble opening the file, I finally managed to read the first 29 pages of the first volume. This is the second graphic novel that I've read (Twilight was the firs...more

This is the second comic book conversion of a Richelle Mead book that I've read and what I said in my review for Vampire Academy can be applied here.

The characters aren't quite how I imagined them but then, are they ever? However, there was no problem in following the story and given the length of time since I'd read Dark Swan, I had no issues with remembering the story.

What was interesting to see is how the adult scenes such as Eugenie's encounter with Kiyo in the hotel and ...more

I read the book and loved it and reading the comic/graphic novel just adds that little bit of extra fun. The Dark Swan first volume really exceeded my expectations; I wasn’t sure if it would do the book justice or be a poor portrayal of a book I loved. It’s great seeing the characters on pages in illustrated form, it’s just brilliant. Each character was captures so perfectly and I loved seeing Eugenie’s attitude leap off the page, seeing her kick-ass in comic form was something I really enjoyed....more

*Warning* Storm Born is meant for older audiences as it includes sexual content & violence. This review is meant for the comic issue #1.

This review is for issue #1 and issue #2. I thought they were good comics. I prefer full length novels but it's fun to see them illustrated. I liked the illustrations, though there were a few awkward looking facial expressions which seems common for comics. I thought the illustrations were consistent with the book's descriptions. I especially enjoyed seeing the otherworldly creatures illustrated. Those were done quite well.

I have read Richelle Mead's Dark Swan series (this comic bei...more

But something strange is happening to Eugenie and the creatures she banishes . . . her name is being bandied about and dangerous fae spirits are making untoward sexual advances.
