This was really fun to read. Our lady-protagonist grew up in the country, and falls for London's handsomest eligible bachelor, now guardian to his two young half-sisters. She has a hip problem, and has therefore been "un-marriageable" for her entire life, but they fall in love! Awww. While there's a lot of "but we simply can't be together!", it's always due to internal turmoil, and nobody does anything too stupid.

This book was ridiculous and silly and absurd. And nothing happened. Nothing. It was bad fluff from start to finish. But I didn’t hate it. And decided to give it an extra star because Eloisa James is funny.

I read this book during a self-imposed week of “NO INTERNET” so was unable to do any preliminary research about this book before reading it. All I had to go on was the book itself, which provided very little help in that area: Is it part of a series? (Yes.) Are there any recycled characters?

Another James that I will re-read, for sure!

The Woman

Lady Henrietta Maclellan longs for the romantic swirl of a London season. But as a rusticating country maiden, she has always kept her sensuous nature firmly under wraps -- until she meets Simon Darby. Simon makes her want to whisper promises late at night, exchange kisses on a balcony, receive illicit love notes. So Henrietta lets her imagination soar and writes...

I liked it alright. But it really doesn't make me want to read the rest of the series. Esme is 6 months pregnant when the story starts. Henriette gets married and has a child, but after Esme is a part of the story from the beginning, there is no mention of when she does have the baby. Yes, I understand that it will probably be addressed in the next book. I would have liked to know if the child was the Marquess' or her husbands and if Simon ended up being the heir or not. Yet, not enough to bothe ...more

Lady Henrietta Maclellan & Simon Darby's book.
A bit of Esme and Sebastian included too.

Fool For Love was ok. I much preferred the first book in the series. Henrietta is lame with a hip problem and her entire life was lead to believe that she cannot birth a child. She is beautiful and hopes to someday wed a widower with children to hopefully fulfil her life.
Enters Darby. Darby is a peacock. He likes frills, lace and really cares how he looks. To be honest, I thought Darby was going to be g

Heyy Wait for Just a moment

Another cute book in the series. I enjoyed the humor in this one. Simon and Henrietta were a very cute couple.

sebenarnya mo ku buat 2 star aja tp aq mikir aduh masa HR EJ mo ku kasih 2 star?? jadi ku kasih 2,5 aja deh...

There is so much to adore about this book. The heroine is smart and interesting the hero while not wanting to fall in love is reasonable and witty.

The fun of the letter makes the book as does the longing in both characters for love and the wonderful secondary casts.

James always writes a full world where the heroine never stands alone. This tapestry makes for wonderful realistic and compelling romances every time.

The end of the book was less engaging than the start but it was a lovely read.

While this book is definitely about Henrietta and Simon, it's also about Esme and Sebastian... unfortunately, because it's Henrietta's and Simon's story, we're left hanging with Esme and Sebastian. I can only hope that the next book in the series ("A Wild Pursuit") will tell us more.

My recommendation is that you MUST read the first book, "Duchess in Love", before reading this one. If you don't, you won't understand the sub-plot starring Lady Esme Rawlings and her "gardener", Sebastian.

When I began reading romance novels, two authors quickly became my favorites. This is one of them. Once I realized that, I'd made a list of all the author's books to search for at the used book store. A few of them tend to never show up, at least at the stores around me. This is one of them. So, I found that quite a few of this author's books were on sale for the Kindle at a reasonable price, so I picked up the ones I didn't already own. See, I do love reading these books, but they aren't someth ...more

Another so-so book from James. Admittedly, her so-so books are still hard to put down and fun reads.

So, this book is book 2 of the Duchess quartet. Only pregnant Esme from Duchess in Love really makes an appearance, and while her situation is a little complicated if you haven't read the first book, James does explain it several times, so this book could be standalone.

The hero in this case is Esme's nephew by marriage, Simon Darby, who comes to visit his aunt to see if the child she is carrying i

I was just in the mood for a fluffy regency romance and this fitted the bill. I liked the characters, as usual there were some very witty lines and it was an easy read. But, I was less keen on the basis of the 'conflict' - that she couldn't have children because of her hip and all the issues around that. Still enjoyed it though,

Lady Henrietta is not your usual well-bred English lady. Since she has a limp and can not dance (some doctors even said she can not have children) - she never had a London season. Without expectations to marry, she's not coquettish or flirty. She's painfully honest and always says what she thinks. And if she yearns to have children of her own, well what can she do, when every noble English gentlemen wants an heir...
Simon Darby is crème de la crème of English society. He's popular, handsome, due

This is the most disappointing novel I've ever read by Eloisa James, and I've been a fan of hers for quite some time. I find the hero to be completely unlikeable. He is described by various other characters as a popinjay, a dandy, a fop, etc. It is made very clear to the reader that he cares more about his clothes and appearance than about his sisters. He has a lifelong friendship that he supposedly holds dear, yet the two men talk of nothing that matters and neither knows each other well enough ...more
This is one of those super-solid four stars that only didn't get five because it didn't reach that emotional level that true five stars books do for me.

But I liked it a lot. It's another one without a great description (this seems a theme for James's books). What's missing from this description is that the couple already likes each other a lot before SCANDAL forces them into marriage. It's also rather misleading about the scandal.

But yeah. I liked it. It's one of those where both characters are

Lady Henrietta Maclellan is lucky to be alive. Her mother died in childbirth and she has inherited the same weak hip. As a result, she walks with a limp, can’t dance and is told that she can’t risk having children. Therefore she isn’t sent up to London to be introduced into proper society, and no-one expects her to gain a husband. But she’s not a fool; she’s witty and smart and she has found her own way in her small village. She runs the school and everybody loves her even though she has an unfo ...more

I liked Simon, he was immensely likeable throughout the book. I did not really warm to the heroine, however. I felt she was a weak character in a lot of ways – for someone who wanted marriage and kids as much as she, you’d think she’d be a little more motivated to do something about the problem.

Simon was strong and kind and lovely with a good dose of charm, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if he’d found a better match. I was confused by his characterization at the start of the bo
WTF Are You Reading?
Simon and Henrietta's story is one made to steal your heart. Henrietta determination to live and love despite all the years of being told that she would or could never.

The fact that Simon loved her first...

This is a fact that is never addressed after the moment on the side of the country road. That sweet, private, moment between Simon's sheltered heart and his passion adled brain.

The fact that he did love her first just sits quietly in the back of one's mind as the nonstop drama that is brought a

This book has (IMO) the best virgin deflowering scene I've read. It was laugh out loud funny in parts but also sweet and sensual in equal measure. It fit the two characters perfectly. The humor is typical Eloisa James and in most other respects, it's a standard historical romance novel. I was impressed with the character development that she very subtly showed with the hero, Simon. In the beginning, he's a typical English gentleman--think George Banks in the beginning of Mary Poppins and yet thr ...more

Henrietta never expected to be wooed, but meeting Simon changes everything. When his intentions seem to match what Henrietta can do, shes willing to risk it all. Can they find a HEA together when it all is revealed?

This book was so weird. It was SUPER long (or maybe it just seemed that way) but nothing happened. The pacing was so bad, the main couple forgives and makes up for the entire premise of the novel in the space of a page. Like, literally one page. And this is after HUNDREDS of pages of both of those characters whining and pining and thinking and gnashing their teeth about their situation. And then it's super happy baby time and everything is perfect. I don't think I've ever read a book with such u ...more

It was good but not what I was expecting...
Si tal vez no me hubiese hecho a la i
