Again, a wonderful book for anyone working with terminally ill patients or their families. Also a great book to live by - advice for anyone who desires to live their life without regrets.

Eleven words that can change your life. Sounds like some self-empowerment guru’s catchphrase from a late-night infomercial, doesn’t it? Well Dr. Ira Byock, a long-time crusader for improved care for the dying in the U.S., is a guru of sorts, and his message here is that in sickness and death there can be healing. This seems counterintuitive, but it is not.

The focus of this book is conversation starters, and Byock provides the tools via the 4 things: “I forgive you” “Please forgive More...

This was a quick and easy read, full of the author's vignettes about his experiences with patients and the importance of the "Four Things" (Please forgive me, I forgive you, Thank you, I love you). As the author points out, these "Four Things" are not only important toward the end of one's life, but should be crucial throughout our lives and essential for building and maintaining meaningful, healthy relationships.

Reommended by my pastor. He actually referenced the book during a sermon. The four things:

Please forgive me.
I forgive you.
Thank you.
I love you.

Easier said than done in many instances. It is a book about people right before they die and their stories and what truly matters.

If you are in the mood for this kind of book, I highly recommend it. Quick read. I read it while I read other books.

"Please forgive me. I forgive you. Thank you. I love you." These truly are the things that matter most. For those facing the end of life - their own or their loved one's, it doesn't get any more simple.

Not wild about the type; but I kind of liked the tangential but meaningful connection between the title/subtitle and the design concept.

Good message but I felt he got to the point in the introduction. A little redundant.

Four simple statements, "please forgive me, I forgive you, thank you and I love you", are powerful tools for improving each of our relationships and our lives. This book by Ira Byock, MD., a hospice and palliative care physician, takes you through each one of these statements with poignant examples and commentary from his practice of medicine. Extremely worthwhile reading!

This is a great book by an ER and hospice doctor about getting the message out to people you love BEFORE you're in a health crisis. According to him, the four most important things are:

I love you
Thank you
I forgive you
Will you forgive me?

Read it, use it, change your life.

Really good advice about how you can make amends with people in your life. I really don't believe it is possible to forgive and be forgiven by everyone you touch in your life, but if most people really think about it, they know who is worth it to put that energy into.

I read this book after my father passed away. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to practice the "four things" mentioned in the book, I believe with all my heart that what the author said was true. A very good book for those dealing with a loved one with a terminal illness.

This book of anecdotes of people struggling to communicate with dying relatives was hard for me to work with because it described families in such strife, and mine is not one. I didn't really help me plan for my mother's death.

Another must read for anyone who wants to live free of all the usual "monkey-mind" that relationships (family, friends, and lovers)can bring to your spirit
