Eternal Captive is the third book in Laura Wright's Mark of the Vampire series and was made of awesome. Lucian is by far my favorite of the Roman brothers and I couldn't wait to devour his story. Knowing that Lucian would turn into the Breeding Male, I was concerned how he would ultimately end up with his mate. Breeding Male's aren't supposed to have true mates so how was Laura going to work around that without it feeling like a copout? I really shouldn't have been concerned; it was written brilliantly. Eternal Captive was everything I wanted it to be and more. It was funny, super smexy and heartbreaking all at the same time. Once I was able to sit down and devote some time to the book I couldn't put it down. I got very little sleep but I didn't mind; Luca's definitely worth it. Though I didn't like her when she was first introduced, Bronwyn grew on me and I really liked her. She is the perfect fit for Lucian.

I hate Cruen but he is the perfect villain. He is a devious, power hungry bastard. Seems he won't be satisfied until he's taken over the world. Crazy frakker. I really like the direction the series is heading and the addition of the mutore. Well hello, Helo!! Big, skull-shaved, shape shifting vampire that's covered in tattoos? *swoons* I'm sooo very thrilled that Laura plans to do a book for him.

Eternal Captive set up Dillion and Grey's story, Eternal Beast, and after the surprising ending I can't wait for it. I really like Dillion and love Grey's angry impure ass. You put the two of them together and sparks fly. The chemistry between the two of them is off the charts.

Three books and a novella into the Mark of the Vampire series and I'm still incredibly impressed with the world building, character development and subplots that Laura has thrown into the mix. This series has been 5 star ratings across the board for me and that is rare. The only other vampire series I've felt this strongly about are JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood and Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress. That being said, if you are a fan of super smexy PNR and/or vampires, I highly recommend this series and suggest that you run (not walk) to the nearest bookstore and pick up Eternal Hunger, the first book in the series. You will not be disappointed.(less)

From the moment I picked up Eternal Hunger, Mark of the Vampire became one of my favorite paranormal romance series. Laura writes with such passion, such intensity, it’s hard not to be drawn in immediately.
After reading Eternal Kiss I knew that this series was destined not only to be great, but really and truly special and I couldn’t wait for Eternal Blood and Eternal Captive.
After devouring Eternal Blood, I was lucky enough to receive an Advance Reading Copy of Eternal Captive, book #3 of the series, from Laura and put aside all other reading to dig in...
In a word, Eternal Captive was incredible! I’m not sure there are enough positive adjectives in the English language to describe everything this book has to offer, but let me try a few:

• It was completely riveting and captivating. From the first page Laura hooks you as a reader, especially if you’ve invested in the 2 ½ installments prior to EC, and it doesn’t let go… ever, because after the last page, you STILL want more.
• It was thoroughly sensual. All Laura Wright fans know that Laura packs the heat, but this book was downright scorching. Take Laura’s sexy, sultry narrative coupled with Luca’s smart-ass nature and you have one hell of a combo.
• It was insanely action-packed and thrilling. The series plotline of Mark of the Vampire has been exhilarating the entire way with the Romans fight against the Order, their internal struggles with themselves and within their small family, etc, but this installment was so intense I literally felt myself holding my breath at times.
• It was all together intriguing and intense. The twists and turns, the secrets revealed, the continual flow of story and evolution of character… all made for one heck of a ride.

This book gave so much to me as a reader it’s really hard to write a proper review for it because a) I feel like I’m not doing it justice, and b) I can’t tell you anything without spoiling it, so let me just say that this book was everything I wanted and more, and recommend it and its 2 ½ predecessors to EVERYONE..

LITERAL ADDICTION gives Eternal Captive 5 Skulls and suggests that everyone go and pick up this book the instant it is released! If you haven’t already taken the time to read Eternal Hunger, Eternal Kiss, and Eternal Blood you have a little time before Eternal Captive hits your mailbox or eReader. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Mark of Vampire is good series, the overall story gets better with each book, which is why it’s a 4 star rating for me. With that said, I did have issues with the content of the story. I felt there was an overuse of the words from the glossary, particularly the words veana and paven. It became a bit distracting, taking away from the story. I began to wonder if I had built this idea in my head about the white haired, albino vampire that author Laura Wright wouldn't be able to meet.

I'm such a silly bean! Laura Wright not only met the expectations I had but surpassed them as well. It's going to be hard to top Lucian because he's been added to my list of absolute favorite alpha males ever.

Definitely a character you won't soon forget, Lucian is a tormented, ruthless, smart ass with a tender heart who is fighting his deepest fears: That his destiny is to become the mindless beast his sire was. The Breeding Male who's only instinct will be to breed with any and all females who come across him, willing or not. He can be borderline unlikeable to some people but to this reader, his prickly, asshole demeanor was what made him more interesting as a character and more deserving of a happy ending than others.

Eternal Captive also introduces readers to some new characters, Syn for example. Have I mentioned that not only am I a vampire lover but a British man makes me swoon? Yeah, it's a double whammy.

Then there are the mutore, who up until now, have just been described as abominations who are not worthy of life. Eternal Captive not only revealed more about the mutore but gave them names, histories and began to create sympathy for these misunderstood creatures. I can't wait to learn more about them.

With this book I've begun noticing a pattern with the entire series, and correct me if I'm wrong but each book is sexier and more erotic than the last and if Laura Wright keeps this up, I'm going to spontaneously combust. There's only so much a girl can take you know. Eternal Captive should have come with a warning label that read: "May cause spontaneous combustion or incoherent babbling. Author is not responsible for ice or fan shortages in your city."

That said, if you've been reading my reviews on this series but haven't gotten around to reading it, what the heck are you waiting for? A personal invitation?! Get these books ASAP and enjoy! I know I am :)(less)

Bronwyn is determined to hold a mating ceremony with her friend Synjon Wise who has given up on finding happiness ever since seeing his true mate murdered. The two intend to enter into the irreversible ceremony for reasons of their own despite Bronwyn’s unwanted attraction to Lucian after their past interactions. The evil machinations of Cruen who has been manipulating those he considers to be Pure cause Lucian to fruitlessly attempt to shield the object of his obsession, Bronwyn, because their mating and blood exchange will cause him to shift into the mindless creature that he abhors. An action-packed read filled with intense scenes of intimacy and mysterious reveals that slowly add to the backgrounds of the myriad characters that people this world. There are quite a few separate plots to follow as Lucian struggles against the destiny he has been bred for and it is sometimes difficult to follow a single thread. Added to this melee are the multiples of angst-ridden love relationships and the complicated joinings and separations that have led to them. The action is a little choppy and flashes from place to place just as the vampires themselves do but there are some intriguing developments. Overall, this was a very enjoyable tale about Lucian and Bronwyn with enough twists that leave one anxious for the next in the series.

Ok, I'm saying that I would give this book 3.5 stars. I marked it as 4 because there is no 3.5 and I didn't want to mark it as a 3 because it was really great. I just had a small issue with it.

This is Book 3 in the Mark of the Vampire series by Laura Wright. This one focuses on Lucian Roman, the youngest of the Roman brothers. He is going to be the "Breeding Male". A Breeding Male is like a mindless, humping vampire in heat 24/7 from the time he goes into the change until the time he dies. Most of them have to be caged for most of their lives because they will have sex with any female in his path, willing or not.

Bronwyn is a pureblood female vampire who thought that Alexander, the oldest Roman brother was her True Mate. He wasn't but in the process of finding that out and staying at the Romans' compund, she met Lucian, who always delighted in tormenting and teasing her. Bronwyn lives in a "credenti" which is a vampire word for "community". But these vampire communities are like Amish communities: few modern conveniences and women are very modest, etc. So Lucien see Bronwyn, embracing her credenti lifestyle and looks down on her. But because she's so beautiful and kind and smart, he can't just ignore her! Typical man!! LOL!

Bronwyn finds herself uncomfortably attracted to Lucien. She can only drink certain blood (I can't remember who's or why) and when Lucien sees her one night, she's half starved and OF COURSE he secretly digs her (MEN!!!!) so he feeds her and she's all better. But she hasn't been able to stop thinking about him. She doesn't know this but by feeding her, Lucien has kick started the change to Breeding Male in himself. He did it for her. He would do anything for her. She knows she can't have him once she finds out what's going on so she convinces her friend (a male) to pretend to be her True Mate so that her parents don't force her into something like they did her sister. That "something" ended up killing her sister and Bronwyn refuses to suffer through the same ordeal.

But on the night of Bronwyn's True Mate ceremony, she's kidnapped. And Lucien must race against time and fate to rescue the woman he loves.

Gah! So romantic!! And trust me, it is. Lucien is hilarious. He's such a smartass! And he teases Bronwyn constantly. Some of it is a little mean, some of it is cute. But she totally brushes it off and usually gives some back to him!! I think they are this great couple and I loved their story. My issue was *****SPOILER ALERT******* after she was kidnapped and Lucien finds her and goes to her, they are trapped in this altered reality (don't ask why, just go with it) until they have sex. They finally have sex but shortly after that, he gets her free and then later on, he is freed as well. And then the whole b o o k s l o w s d o w n. . . .
They're being hidden in the credenti when Lucien was born and its protected by magic and super hidden but Lucien is about to change into the Humping Monster so he's chained up but Bronwyn won't leave him so they're there together sort of eye fucking each other for what seems like DAYS!!!! And there's probably 2 or 3 other stories going on (and you KNOW how I hate that) and Lucienand Bronwyn keep talking about how they can never be together but they love each other and it just seems so damn monotonous. And this is only about 75% of the way into the book! Yeah! It goes on and on and on and on. I just think the author slowed down the pace when it didn't need it. Maybe she should have cut some other story lines, I don't know. But it was a struggle to finish it. And when I did, I was relieved that it was over.

Having said that, I would still recommend this book. It was a great read and it was VERY exciting. Lots and lots of action: kidnappings, rescue, fights, lost loves found, fights, romance, fights. Did I mention fights??! LOL! (less)

I have been following this series from the beginning and was eagerly anticipating Lucian's story. He was everything he promised to be: sarcastic, snarky, ill-tempered, foul mouthed, and a total bastard, but that didn't really deter from his charm as for each utterance of something off-putting, he followed it up quickly with something to make your insides warm and soften.

This could have been a five star for me, but the sheer vulgarity of the language caught me off guard. I am by no means a prude, I have read my share of sexy novels, but I take this and the series to be a romance genre, and this was teetering dangerously on the edge of erotica, in my opinion. I didn't really think it was necessary to use some of the terms used for the body and such to create intimacy, as none of the others did to such a degree. It did, however, make up for it all in story and the ending I got was downright lovely and left me anticipating the next.

ETERNAL CAPTIVE is another fascinating tale in the Mark of the Vampire series by Laura Wright. A father’s betrayal and a mother’s love will be seen as similarly evil, but the truth is somewhere in between. Although The Breeding Male will never find his true mate, Lucian Roman will find that his heart and his soul, will always call –the one woman – his –true mate.

If I could give this book a 10 star rating I most definitely would!

What can I say... This book pulled me in so many emotional directions that I was left frazzled, in a good way. Luca just broke my heart, but he also made me smile, laugh and want somebody to clone him and his delishious tongue all for myself. I'm not ashamed to admit that I shed tears and then some by out right snot sobbing... It wasn't pretty!

Well, this started out great guns...really got into the Bron/Lucian tryst and the angst of the Breeding Male vs the good girl. But it got pretty redundant, the plot sorta loosened up, and I got less and less enthused. There is just something off-putting about using gutter language to speak to your beloved. Eternal Captive was a pretty decent read. I hadn't read the previous two books in the series so I was a little lost. I wished I had read the previous two books so that I could have the full picture but the plot was easy enough to follow. Thankfully there's a glossary at the beginning of the book that helped me with the terminology that used heavily used throughout. This book was another great read. I read all three of this series back to back. Now I have to wait for number four, and I know when I get it I will put it on top of my tbr pile.
Lucian was the perfect tortured hero, who was capable of great love. My only problem was with how he treated his mother. Compared to his brother Nicholas, his childhood wasn't that bad, and I would have liked to see him be a bit more forgiving. From the start Lucian entranced me with his roller coaster of emotions. His connection to Bronwyn is mesmerizing. From previous books, the spark between the two has caught my attention and I couldn't wait to read their story. Lucian does what he wants when he wants and doesn't care what anyone else thinks, or at least that is how we perceive him to be in previous books. The beginning really shouted 'as if' to me, and Bronwyn was mega annoying and TSTL. But it got better about halfway through, even though the sex really made me blush at times, haha. I think this is because of the crude language; I'm used to more flowery descriptions of sexy times in novels. But I don't not like this style, either.

Overall, this was a nice read. I think it is my favourite book out of the series thus far; Lucian and Bron's attraction was obvious, but their devotion to one another...more

As I returned to the world now familiar to me I found Bronwyn concocting a plan to avoid being presented to the Breeding Male. This plan brought a new character to the cast named; Synjon Wise and he instantly flipped my intrigue switch. He is described as a combo between a Special Forces officer from his native Britain and a Navy Seal from the US; hello Synjon!! The danger and mystery clinging to this character made me want to unravel all there is to know about him! While he played an important role in Eternal Captive the story was all about Bronwyn and Luca.

Luca, with his flippant attitude, is a vampire who entered Eternal Hunger for the first time and made me think; MINE! He doesn’t care what everybody thinks and goes his own way but underneath it all hides a complex nature. Now in Eternal Captive I got inside his heart and mind and he blew me away. He became the fantastic mix of attitude, vulnerability, emotions and prowess.

Bronwyn was largely responsible for the change in Luca. She is a scientist, definitely a smart cookie who is fierce, bold and caring. She takes matters in to her own hands and it might get her in to trouble she is just not one who will sit by the sidelines to see her life get orchestrated. I loved to see Bronwyn’s braveness coupled with a certain fear, to see her grow and change throughout the story. What I loved most was how she challenged Luca and gradually fell in love with him.

The powerful pairing of these two characters created an exquisite love/hate affair that was simply titillating to read. Due to personal reasons Bronwyn wants to elude the Breeding Male at all costs and Luca is a son of the Breeding Male – halfway becoming one. This romantic conflict, combined with the burning attraction and the overall plot arc just knocked me off my feet. It was a battle of will power, of the heart and soul which captivated me with the well of emotions pouring from Bronwyn and Luca. The interactions was a clash of sharp minds, fierceness and sexual undertones and I gobbled it all up.

Not to mention the fact that the intricate rules, customs and society structures bring depth to this vampire race. It brings conflict and injustice, dangers, mystery and adventures; all elements that elevated the romance to greater heights. It infused this story with bloodcurdling scenes that got me crying. It delivered such intense bittersweet moments I could actually feel my heart ache for the characters involved. Laura Wright superbly deepened the characterization of the familiar cast of characters. She made the villain so evil I wanted to strangle him myself and added some new characters whom intrigued me. These new characters; Erion, Lycos, Phane and Helos mark a new plotline within the story arc and one I’m enthusiastic about.

I want to jubilate more about the romance, which consumed me from beginning till end. About the plot that took it up a notch and kept me riveted to the pages. If I could share the erotic heat I felt between Luca and Bronwyn I could create a pleasant bonfire. And if I could talk more about the high-stake dangers of all the trials and tribulations I would, but I want you to find it out all on your own.

Luca played all my emotional chords like no tomorrow. He and Bronwyn gave me a romance I will never forget, set in a rich and detailed world with a memorable supporting cast of characters. Laura Wright, you rocked my world with this one!!

I'll start this review by saying I've not read the previous novels in the series and I took this novel as a stand alone by my mistake.

This being a romance novel, the steamy bits and tension building between our main characters felt satisfying and well paced, though it will leave your inner feminist crying in a dark corner.

Lucian's character can't decide if he's an Irish gentleman or a crass college bro. He's extremely dominating and possessive of Bronwyn and there is a point that it is in a rape...more I'll start this review by saying I've not read the previous novels in the series and I took this novel as a stand alone by my mistake.

Bronwyn was not intelligent enough, especially considering the line of work she carries and she was not a strong leading lady, and while she tries to act independent and strong, her character also flip flops because she constantly needs protection, from the strong males around her.

When it comes to the plot there are really 3 story lines followed. Lucian & Bronwyn, Synjon, and Dillon.

Most of the novel is spent with Lucian and Bronwyn and exploring their feelings and loins and "relationship building" with them. (view spoiler)

Synjon's whole subplot was fitting since he played a major roll in the first few chapters and it kind of tied up the whole "he's looking for Bronwyn so whatever happened with him, but everything towards the end left me crying out "oh come on really?!" (view spoiler)

Dillon's whole plot really just felt tacked on and could only be one chapters worth of pages when all mashed together (the book tends to blip around). Dillon's part of the story also was just to pave the way in the epilogue for the next book, as well as fill a HUGE plot hole at the end of how the villain's secret layer got found by Alexander and Nicholas (How they got in through the magic wards still a mystery). How Dillon even knew where the villain was is also unexplained (perhaps a previous book).

In short very a predictable "everything works out for everyone in the end" fun read that left me feeling very disappointed in my purchase.(less)

I have been waiting patiently for Lucian Roman to have his chance to tell his story. He has been my favorite Roman brother through out this entire series. What girl doesn't like a smart, cocky, bad boy. From the beginning of the story, you never see Luca ever settling down with anyone. It was his temperament, attitude, and the pesky fact of him becoming the Breading Male. In ETERNAL CAPTIVE, Luca is transformed into a new person. While the wit and snark still remain, he becomes this mature person that I never thought possible. When he returns to the credenti were he was born, the layers of his shell really start to fall way. He's willing to give up everything to save those who he loves, even if it hurts him.

Bronwyn Kettler's character has so many layers. When Brownwyn steps into this story, she's a very buttoned up, prissy, prim, Sandra Dee -type character. She made me crazy, and I never blamed Alexander a bit for not being interested in her in the first book. Over time, Bronwyn opened herself up, and made me love her. She became the strong, smart, driven women she was always meant to be.

The secondary characters in this story really bring ETERNAL CAPTIVE to life. The Roman brothers have such a spectacular dynamic, considering they each came from a broken home. They have built new lives together with new friends, family, and lovers. I'm completely wrapped up in both Gray and Dillon's separate and joint storylines. I'm so in love with these two, that my next read will probably be ETERNAL BLOOD (Mark of the Vampire #2.5). I, also, love the newest members the Roman brothers have added to their fold. I have a feeling that there might just be future books based around these guys, and I'll be there to read it when it comes out.

ETERNAL CAPRIVE is a story of personal growth and risking it all for the one you love. I was touched by this stories sense of family, love, and perseverance. It's funny, smart, sexy, and heart felt all at the same time. Once I picked this book up, I couldn't put it down! It has twists and turns, that kept me up way past my bedtime reading. ETERNAL CAPRIVE is a must read for Paranormal Romance Fans!(less)

Oh Luca, I absolutely loved him from the beginning with his smart-ass attitude. He tries to put on a hard front, like he doesn’t care in order to keep those around him safe. Underneath his sarcastic, arrogant, I don’t give a f#*% façade he is very caring and very self sacrificing. I’ve liked Bronwyn since she was introduced in the first book. She is strong and doesn’t back down to Lucian when he is trying to intimidate her. As much as she tries to prevent herself from becoming a “victim” of the Breeding Male and they both try to fight their desire for each other, the evil bad guy has other plans and forces them together. With everything against them, they are just so drawn to each other that they can’t fight desire any longer and they are so great together.

Eternal Captive is the 3rd book in the Mark of the Vampire series by Laura Wright. I absolutely am hooked to this series and could not put any of the books down and in my opinion each book just gets better. If you haven’t read the first 2 books in this series Eternal Hunger and Eternal Kiss, I’d absolute would do that first. As those books are based around Lucian’s brothers Alex and Nicky you are given a look at how Lucian and Bronwyn’s relationship begins and everything that has led this group of characters to the point they are at in Eternal Captive. I loved the side stories with the new characters that were introduced and there’s a great little twist at the end to set up for the next book Eternal Beast, I just can’t wait!! Also the next book is about Gray and I <3 him ;)

I loved this book so much I'm tempted to say something stupid or cliche. I had trouble with the novella that came out earlier because I didn't recognize alot of what was happening with what went on in the first two book. But for this book I went and re-read the series and that worked wonders.
I was so sucked into these books to the point we've had to have takeout for the past 4 days.

Eternal Captive takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride. There are so many ups and downs, highs and lows you start to wonder if it will ever end. Will there ever be light at the end of the tunnel.

I will admit I was very, very nervous about this book. I was not sure how Laura was going to pull it all off, but she did!! And she did a beautiful job of it. But Bronwyn drank from him and activated this process and now his body is slowly going through changes, feeling urges. Feeling a connection to Bronwyn. Feeling a deep want. But he can't allow himself to have her. That would seal his fate.

So when he hears that she is to be mated to another, that she bears another males' mark, he should be happy. Except he's not. And he's not at all happy when she is kidnapped by one of the Beasts and kept captive by Cruen. Only Lucian can rescue her. And by doing that he'll be sealing both their fates.

Lucian and Bronwyn worked well as a couple. Lucian is over the top, loud and arrogant. He is also one hell of a dirty talker ;) This might've been extremely helpful to virginal and unsure Bronwyn. And slowly she lost her inhibitions too. There wasn't a lot of fighting the attraction coming from this veana. And she should've had every right to fight it being that she was now facing the Breeding Male, the one creature that had ruined her sister's life and that she swore she would do anything to avoid.

Action and romance packed, with plenty of snark and some hilarious one liners. This book kept me entertained and dying to see how things could get fixed. Even though the solution at the end was pretty simple!

And speaking of the end... there's a twist at the end I wasn't expecting. This will lead into the next book and it will be most interesting. We also get to know the Beasts a little bit better. Who are they? Are they truly controlled by Cruen? And what is the Orders role in all this? We'll have to wait and see.
